Page Four St. William January 4, 2016 Subject: Invitation to attend consultation meeting for Archdiocesan-wide planning effort Dear Staff and Parishioner Leaders, This fall, Archbishop Cupich convened all priests in the Archdiocese together for two Priests Days, during which the priests of the Archdiocese gathered together to review, discuss, and provide input on some of the demographic changes and key facts affecting both our city and our Church. These Priests Days began the planning stages of an Archdiocesan-wide effort to assess the mission vitality and physical configuration of our parishes in light of those changes. Archbishop Cupich wrote a letter that was published in The Catholic New World just after the first Priest Day on September 29 th. One of the next steps in planning is beginning a period of long consultation with representatives of those most deeply involved and committed to parish life and leadership. Therefore, the Archdiocese has arranged for a series of meetings to be held in each vicariate for parish staff and parish lay leaders. I would like to invite you to attend our vicariate meeting to ensure your important voice as a parish leader is included in the early consultation process. At these meetings, Archdiocesan leadership and priests, our Episcopal vicar, and Archdiocesan staff will present information that was shared with the priests at the two Priests Days. This information consists of key facts about our city and Archdiocese and possible parish leadership models for consideration. Reflection on this information, discussion of it with me and with other attendees, and avenues to provide input will also be included during the meeting. As mentioned previously, there is a particular meeting scheduled for each vicariate. The details for our meeting are: JA UARY 25, 2016 at ST. FRA CES OF ROME, 1428 S. 59 th Court, Cicero, IL 60804 This meeting will be broken into two parts: Pastors and parish staff will meet from 4:00pm 6:00pm Pastors and lay leaders will meet from 7:00pm 9:00 pm Please be advised that you only need to attend one of these slots: whichever is appropriate for your role as staff or parishioner. I will be attending both sessions. The same information will be presented in each vicariate and at each session. MEDYTACJA AD IEDZIEL Ą EWA GELIĄ iedziela Chrztu Pańskiego Tyś jest mój Syn umiłowany 1. Przeszedł On, dobrze czyniąc. Na zakończenie liturgicznych obchodów okresu Bożego Narodzenia celebrujemy Święto Chrztu Pańskiego, które pokazuje nam już dorosłego, trzydziestoletniego Jezusa, u początku swojej publicznej działalności. Drugie dzisiejsze czytanie z Dziejów Apostolskich opisuje działalność Pana Jezusa w jednym zdaniu: Przeszedł On, dobrze czyniąc i uzdrawiając wszystkich, którzy byli pod władzą diabła, dlatego że Bóg był z im. Jest to najkrótszy, najbardziej zwięzły ale i najprawdziwszy bo natchniony żywot Jezusa Chrystusa. Wszystko w Jego życiu sprowadzało się do jednego: żeby ludziom dobrze czynić. To zobowiązuje też wszystkich nas wierzących. Jeśli wierzymy w Jezusa, jeśli próbujemy Go naśladować, musimy też koniecznie innym dobrze czynić. 2. Jezus przyjął chrzest od Jana. W Ewangelii pojawia się wielki poprzednik Jezusa Jan Chrzciciel. To ten, który patronował nam razem z Izajaszem i Matką Bożą przez cały czas adwentowego oczekiwania na przyjście Pana. Ma on okazję zrobić myśląc po ludzku wielką karierę, bo ludzie uważają go za Mesjasza. Lecz św. Jan oświadcza z całą stanowczością: Ja nie jestem godzien nawet rozwiązać rzemyka u sandałów Mesjasza. Wtedy Jezus prosi Jana, aby udzielił Mu chrztu w Jordanie tak, jak czyniły to tłumy ze wszystkich stron spieszące do Jana. 3. Chrzest Jezusa i nasz chrzest. Poddając się obmyciu Jordanowemu Jezus chciał być przez to do nas podobny we wszystkim, oprócz grzechu. Choć jako Syn Boży, Jezus nie musiał przyjmować de facto tego chrztu, to jednak jako człowiek chciał się solidaryzować z nami we wszystkim. I podczas tego obrzędu z nieba odezwał się głos: Tyś jest mój Syn umiłowany, w Tobie mam upodobanie. Celebrując dziś niedzielę Chrztu Pańskiego wspomnijmy także nasz chrzest. Zastanówmy się nad doniosłością i zbawiennymi skutkami chrztu, który został nam udzielony w imię Pana Jezusa Chrystusa, dzięki któremu stanowimy cząstkę ciała Chrystusa, czyli Kościoła.
