NOVEMBER 1ST -ALL SAINTS DAY IS A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. Although millions, or even billions of people may already be saints, All Saints' Day observances tend to focus on known saints --that is those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Catholic Church. IN ST. WILLIAM'S CHURCH WE WILL CELEBRATE MASSES ON NOVEMBER 1ST AT 8:15 AM & 6:00PM IN ENGLISH AND 10:30AM & 7:30PM IN POLISH LANGUAGE. FIRST FRIDAY MASS TO HONOR THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS First Friday s have always been devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We continue to honor this tradition. The next First Friday Mass will be: Friday, November 4th at 8:15 a.m. Confessions will be heard from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00a.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place immediately following the 8:15 a.m. Mass. We will pray the Litany of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus for new and holy vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. Why Do We Have First Friday Devotions? St. Margaret Mary Alacoque experienced visions of Christ from 1673 to 1675 while she was at the Visitation convent at Paray Monial. Jesus informed her that she was His chosen instrument to spread devotion to His Sacred Heart. The Savior made twelve promises to St. Margaret Mary as a sign of love for all people and spoke the following words: I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. WHY DO WE DO THAT? - CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED November is called the month of All Souls. November 2, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, dovetails with November 1, the feast of All Saints. The saints, our models of Christian living, are one with God in heaven. All the faithful departed are those who have died with hope and trust in a loving God who calls us to greater growth and development, even beyond death. This growth and development occurs in a state of being that we have traditionally called purgatory. While the Western Church has emphasized the cleansing and purifying nature of purgatory, the Eastern Orthodox Church has emphasized the growth and development aspect of it. Purgatory allows one who has died in Christ to continue growing and developing before meeting God faceto-face. These November feasts vividly remind us of the rich reality known as the communion of saints. This belief stresses the strong affirmation that the church is always one in Christ. Death does not sever any of the bonds that unite us in Christ. That is why it is a fitting practice to pray for the dead and to ask them to pray for us. Just as we do that for each other when we are alive, so, too, do we continue that bond and concern for each other even beyond death. Thanks for your continued support of the Scout at St. William Parish Dan Steppan-Scoutmaster - Troop 49 "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over." Zacchaeus was serious about following Jesus. Maybe at the start he was just curious when he ran ahead to scale that sycamore tree. But that curiosity developed into a life-changing experience when Jesus called him by name. At that moment, when the Lord chose Zacchaeus to be his host for the evening, the rich tax collector "came down quickly and received him with joy." And shortly thereafter came his promise of conversion and penance. Not only would he change his ways; he would make up for his former ones. And thus Jesus declared, "Today salvation has come to this house." Penance isn't a popular concept in our modern era. We like to think about God's great mercy and forgiveness, but it's not so fun to think about the lingering effects of our sin. When Zacchaeus stole money, people suffered, especially the poor. His conversion to the ways of God wouldn't make up for the suffering he had inflicted on people. But his choice to go back and set things aright could make a difference. Sometimes, we are called to do something similar. Of course it is not always possible to go back and directly restore the relationships or situations that we have damaged through our sins. However, it IS always possible to offer a kind of sacrifice --often called "making reparation"--for our sin. We can do something virtuous and offer it to God as a kind of deposit in the universal "bank" of goodness to make up for the unjust withdrawals we have previously made. In this way, we too can show that we are serious about following the Lord. ROZWAŻANIA NA 31 NIEDZIELE ZWYKŁĄ Mdr 11,22-12,2; 2 Tym 1,11-2,2; Łk 19,1-10 Do grzesznika poszedł w gościnę, słyszymy zarzut faryzeuszów skierowany przeciw Jezusowi, kiedy ten rzeczywiście zawitał w gościnę u zwierzchnika celników, Zacheusza. Więc wspiął się na sykomorę, by móc Go ujrzeć, kiedy ten przechodził. INTENCJE ŻYWEGO RÓŻAŃCA NA LISTOPAD 2016 Ogólna: Aby kraje, które przyjmują wielką liczbę uchodźców i uciekinierów, były wspierane w swoim wysiłku solidarności. 7
