Within a few days the children who had been under the care of our wonderful staff will be on their own for a few months. We all remember how exciting it was to get out of school for summer vacation, so eager to get away from the books and into just having a good time. Let s hope that all of our students are able to do just that, have fun, safely. The world into which they are thrust is not as simple as it was when we were children. Maybe I m wrong, but life seemed to be a little simpler back in the 50 s. The neighborhood was loaded with kids, most who attended the same school as well as church. Our parents knew each other. The neighbors knew each other. People would sit on porches and talk. Children played in the streets, yards, playgrounds..wherever there was opened space. Today we worry a little more. We see the news reports about children having guns. We see a different atmosphere of respect for others. We hear words that used to be whispered (out of shame) now yelled at a higher volume by both children and parents. TV, videos, computers and other inventions have made members of our contemporary society less human and more isolated. That s why we must keep these children in our prayers this Summer and always. They are fragile no matter what façade they put on. They are impressionable, thus our good example can also help. God will watch over them, but He expects us to help Him out too. So, let Summer recess begin.and let it be a safe one for everyone-especially our schoolchildren!!! PASTORAL MESSAGE May 31, Maja 2009 OUR CHILDREN A couple of weeks ago, when the weather got warmer, the friars started keeping the kitchen window open in the morning as we sip our coffee, read the paper, and prepare for morning prayers. After such a long and brutal winter, what a delight it is to hear the birds chirping away, to feel a slight breeze freshening the room, to smell the Spring flowers in bloom. There is another element to the morning sounds on East 65th Street our school children getting off their school buses, meeting up at the café, and generally carrying on until it is time for school. Now that our windows are open, we hear them more clearly. Recently, as Br. Justin and I were chatting over morning coffee, the kids seemed to be extra loud and I got upset. I lept up from the chair and headed to the window, ready to open the screen and give them a piece of my mind. But Br. The children entrusted to our care are truly our children all of them! Justin simply and calmly said, Leave them be, Mike, they re just kids havng fun. And he was right! The sounds they were making were genuinely happy, free, and unrestrained. They were, for that moment, just kids happy to have nice Spring weather so they can play around a little before school starts. Has it been so long since my own childhood that I forget that simple joy? I don t think I was exactly a quiet angel when my buddies and I played around outside the school before class started. Am I so old that I forget what it was like to be a kid? There is a natural tendency to remember our own childhood in a rosier way, and to look at kids today with a furrowed brow. I thank God for the gift of the children entrusted to our care every day, for they truly are our children. This week we will conclude the 126th year of Catholic education at Saint Stanislaus Elementary School, and our enrollment prospects for next year look strong so far. (COMMERCIAL: If you know someone who is looking to enroll their children in a quality Catholic school, please send them our way. Tell them there are many forms of financial aid available, too!) We will graduate 37, of whom 35 will attend Catholic high schools. We will also send 16 kindergarten graduates on to the first grade. Cleveland Central Catholic High School will graduate 110, of whom 80% will go on to college. (Their graduation rate is 95%, compared with the Cleveland Public Schools rate of 34%.) The bulletin lists the times for the graduation ceremonies this week, so please try to attend one if you can. But even if you cannot, perhaps in your own prayers you can share in the pride of the parents, the joy of the students, and the hope for the future for our society this represents. Whatever you do to the least of these Przyjdź, Duchu Święty! Dzień Pięćdziesiątnicy to święto Ducha Świętego. Mówi o tym polska nazwa tego święta - Zesłanie Ducha Świętego. W pierwszym czytaniu tej uroczystości wziętym z Dziejów Apostolskich słyszymy o tym, jak Duch Święty zstąpił na Apostołów. Jest tam mowa o szumie podobnym do uderzenia gwałtownego wichru i o językach jakby z ognia. Są to zewnętrzne znaki tego, co wydarzyło się we wnętrzu uczniów. Po śmierci Jezusa uczniowie nie mieli odwagi wyjść na zewnątrz. Bali się, że może z nimi stać się to, co stało się z ich Mistrzem. Ale oto, jaka zmiana dokonała się w nich, kiedy zstąpił na nich Duch Święty. Ci wcześniej zastraszeni mężczyźni, teraz wykazują się odwagą, której nic nie jest w stanie powstrzymać. Stają przed tłumem złożonym z Żydów, z których, jak możemy się domyślać, wielu wcześniej wołało do Piłata, kiedy sądził Jezusa: Ukrzyżuj Go! Ukrzyżuj Go! Stają przed żydowskimi władzami religijnymi; później staną przed władzami politycznymi, przed przedstawicielami innych kultur. Będą głosić Tego, który został ukrzyżowany i zmartwychwstał. Oni, niewykształceni w większości mężczyźni zostali posłani na zdobycie świata, innych kultur i narodów, których wcześniej nie znali; staną przed ludźmi, którzy będą słuchać ich przepowiadania sceptycznie, a często nawet z wrogością. Ale oto ci, wcześniej przestraszeni i bojący się o swoje życie, teraz cieszą się, kiedy przychodzi im cierpieć, bo mówią, że stali się godnymi cierpieć dla imienia Jezusa ; nawet groźba tortur i śmierci nie była w stanie powstrzymać ich przed odważnym głoszeniem Jezusa zmartwychwstałego. Ich przepowiadanie ma taką siłę, że wkrótce przyłączą się do nich setki i tysiące tych, którzy przyjmą wiarę w Jezusa Chrystusa. Ten sam Boży Duch działa i dzisiaj w Kościele. Pan Jezus nie pozostawił swoich sierotami. W niektórych czasach historii Kościoła obecność Ducha Świętego staje się wręcz namacalna za historycznymi wydarzeniami. Szczególnie wtedy, kiedy powszechny kryzys sprawia, że wydaje się, że mamy do czynienia z unicestwieniem Kościoła, Duch Święty pobudza mężczyzn i kobiety, którzy przyczyniają się do jego odnowy. W tym miejscu myślimy o takich wielkich postaciach, jak św. Benedykt z Nursji, św. Franciszek z Asyżu, św. Dominik, św. Ignacy z Loyoli i o wielu innych. Odnowa Kościoła dokonuje się też w inny sposób - przez sobory powszechne. W tym miejscu trzeba podkreślić znaczenie tego ostatniego, czyli Soboru Watykańskiego II, który odbył się w latach 1962-1965. Duch Święty działa i dzisiaj. Przeminęła potęga i chwała rzymskiego cesarstwa, które w czasach opisanych w Dziejach Apostolskich było potęgą światową. Podobnie przeminęło wiele innych królestw i mocarstw, które, jak się wydawało w czasach ich panowania, będą trwać wiecznie. Ale to Kościół Chrystusa ma obietnicę, że będzie trwać wiecznie. Jezus obiecał swoim uczniom, że będzie z nimi aż do skończenia świata. Kościół ma obietnicę, że ostateczne zwycięstwo i panowanie należy do Chrystusa, a Kościół ma udział w tym zwycięstwie. Teraz chodzi o to, aby to zwycięstwo stało się także naszym udziałem. A stanie się to, jeśli wytrwamy w łasce uświęcającej aż do końca. o. Placyd

ST. STANISLAUS ST. STAN S HISTORICAL FACT by Rob Jagelewski On this Memorial Day weekend we remembered those parishioners who served their country during times of war. Some of our parishioners may have been veterans of the United States Civil War in the early days of our community in 1873. Parishioners definitely served our country during the Spanish/American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, and the current War in Iraq and Afghanistan. On the Sacred Heart side altar in the sanctuary (school yard side) are two plaques that contain the names of some of our parishioners who died in World War II. Some families wished that the names of their deceased loved ones from the War not be listed. The Blue Star Mothers provided a send off dinner for each group of men from the Parish that were headed off to fight in World War II. The names of these individuals were enrolled and blessed. A total of 1,030 men from the Parish served in World War II. CLEVELAND, OHIO (Above) In the late 1940 s Fr. GRADUATIONS Our Saint Stanislaus Elementary School has been open and thriving since the beginning of the parish in 1873, making it one of the oldest parochial schools still open in the diocese. Our enrollment and finances are strong and stable, and the quality of education is well regarded throughout the city and suburbs. Our school remains one of the most important forms of service to the larger community. Please feel free to join with the students and their families as we celebrate the graduations in the church next week. A name tag will be mailed to you for you to wear as you board the trolley, which will arrive in front of the church at 11:00. The procession should begin around 11:30. If you are attending the 10:30 Mass that day, please make your way to the trolley immediately after the Mass. If you are attending the procession only, you may board the trolley after it arrives at 11:00.

COMMUNITY NEWS MAY 31, MAJA 2009 Parading down E.65th St. led by Dan Kane and Tony Brancattelli, the Morgana Park Little League celebrated the start of it s 50th Season. Mr. Dan Kane was honored as one of the founding fathers of the league and received a baseball autographed by Bob Feller. Cleveland Browns Fundraiser We have an opportunity, as a parish, to earn up to $1,000 per game by working at a concession stand at the Cleveland Browns games. Would you be interested in donating your time for this event to help your parish? If we have enough volunteers, each volunteer will only have to work three or four games (or maybe you can only commit to one game, and that is OK).
