Meetings of St. John Paul II Seniors will begin on Tuesday, September 13th, at 12:00 Noon. New members are welcome! We meet in the Parish Center in the St. John Paul II Room. If interested, please call Marie at or Florence at September the sound of the school bell! The school bell signifies the beginning of a new school year. This is a most opportune time to clean out the summer clothes for the Catholic Charities Clothing bin. We also welcome small appliances, shoes, linens, sheets, towels, stuffed animals, and books (no text books). Bins are located behind Mount Carmel Convent or in front of St. Michael Madonna Hall. Thank you! There is no doubt that it is important to maintain cleanliness in our houses of worship. With that in mind, we are planning a clean-up day on Saturday, September 17th, after the 8:00 AM Masses. We intend to clean both Mount Carmel and St. Michael churches. We ask that you notify the Rectory if you are able and willing to help us with this mission. Jesus will bless you! September 8th The Church has celebrated Mary's birth since at least the sixth century. A September birth was chosen because the Eastern Church begins its Church year with September. The September 8 date helped determine the date for the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 (nine months earlier). Scripture does not give an account of Mary's birth. However, the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James fills in the gap. This work has no historical value, but it does reflect the development of Christian piety. According to this account, Anna and Joachim are infertile but pray for a child. They receive the promise of a child that will advance God's plan of salvation for the world. Such a story (like many biblical counterparts) stresses the special presence of God in Mary's life from the beginning. St. Augustine connects Mary's birth with Jesus' saving work. He tells the earth to rejoice and shine forth in the light of her birth. "She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed." The opening prayer at Mass speaks of the birth of Mary's Son as the dawn of our salvation and asks for an increase of peace. We can see every human birth as a call for new hope in the world. The love of two human beings has joined with God in his creative work. The loving parents have shown hope in a world filled with travail. The new child has the potential to be a channel of God's love and peace to the world. This is all true in a magnificent way in Mary. If Jesus is the perfect expression of God's love, Mary is the foreshadowing of that love. If Jesus has brought the fullness of salvation, Mary is its dawning. Birthday celebrations bring happiness to the celebrant as well as to family and friends. Next to the birth of Jesus, Mary's birth offers the greatest possible happiness to the world. Each time we celebrate her birth we can confidently hope for an increase of peace in our hearts and in the world at large. Thank you! 4 Be a Catechist: Being a religious education teacher brings many rewards and blessings. We are looking for men and women who are responsible, motivated, committed to their Catholic faith. School days are returning and, once again, we are preparing our school building classrooms to accommodate students for our Religious Education Program as well as the Władysław Reymont Polish Supplementary School. We extend sincere appreciation to Adam, a general contractor, and his crew who donated their time and workmanship to paint the cafeteria and other rooms. We look forward to answering any questions you may have. 8 settembre La Chiesa ha celebrato la Natività di Maria almeno sin dal sesto secolo. La nascita a settembre fu scelta perché la Chiesa Orientale inizia l anno della sua Chiesa a Settembre. La data dell 8 settembre contribuì a determinare la data per la festa dell Immacolata Concezione dell 8 dicembre (nove mesi prima). La scrittura non fornisce una descrizione della nascita di Maria. Tuttavia, il Protovangelo apocrifo di Giacomo riempie lo spazio. Questo lavoro non ha alcun valore storico, ma riflette lo sviluppo della pietà cristiana. In base a questa considerazione, Anna e Gioacchino sono sterili ma pregano per un bambino. Essi ricevono la promessa di una bambina che avanzerà il piano di Dio di salvezza per il mondo. La preghiera iniziale nella messa parla della nascita del Figlio di Maria come l inizio della nostra salvezza e chiede una crescita di pace. Siamo in grado di vedere ogni nascita umana come una chiamata di nuova speranza nel mondo. L'amore di due esseri umani e unito a Dio nella Sua opera creatrice. I genitori amorevoli hanno mostrato speranza in un mondo pieno di travagli. Il nuovo bambino ha il potenziale per essere una via dell amore di Dio e di pace per il mondo. Tutto questo è vero in un modo magnifico in Maria. Se Gesù è la perfetta espressione dell amore di Dio, Maria è la prefigurazione di quell'amore. Se Gesù ha portato la pienezza della salvezza, Maria è il suo inizio. Celebrazioni di compleanno portano felicità al celebrante come anche alla famiglia e agli amici. Dopo la nascita di Gesù, la nascita di Maria offre la più grande felicità possibile al mondo. Ogni volta che celebriamo la Sua nascita possiamo fiduciosamente sperare per una crescita di pace nei nostri cuori e in tutto il mondo.

5 Narodzenie Najświętszej Maryi Panny Kult Maryi Panny pod tytułem Narodzenia rozpoczął się już w V w. w Jerozolimie i łączył się z uroczystością dedykacji, czyli poświęcenia bazyliki w miejscu Jej narodzenia. Dwie wielkie stolice państwowe Bizancjum i Rzym zaczęły obchodzić święto Narodzenia Maryi Panny w VII w. Potem zaczęło się rozszerzać w Kościele jako jedno z ważniejszych świąt Maryjnych, bo zapowiadało narodzenie Jezusa Chrystusa. Ten związek między narodzeniem Maryi i narodzeniem Jezusa bezpośrednio wyjaśniają czytania biblijne. Szczególnie proroctwo Micheasza (Mi 5, 1 4a) oraz Ewangelia (Mt 1, ). Tradycja przekazuje, że rodzicami Najświętszej Maryi Panny byli św. Anna i św. Joachim. Byli oni pobożnymi Żydami. Mimo sędziwego wieku nie mieli dziecka. W tamtych czasach uważane to było za karę za grzechy przodków. Dlatego Anna i Joachim gorliwie prosili Boga o dziecko. Bóg wysłuchał ich próśb i w nagrodę za pokładaną w Nim bezgraniczną ufność sprawił, że Anna urodziła córkę, Maryję. Anna nie wiedziała jeszcze wtedy, że Maryja została niepokalanie poczęta i jest zachowana od wszelkiego grzechu, by później, będąc posłuszną Bożej woli, stać się Matką Boga. Nie znamy miejsca urodzenia Maryi ani też daty jej przyjścia na ziemię. Jeśli jednak przyjmiemy za punkt wyjścia przyjęty pierwszy rok naszej ery jako datę narodzenia Chrystusa, to należy się zgodzić, że Maryja przyszła na świat pomiędzy 20 a 16 rokiem przed narodzeniem Pana Jezusa. Maryja choć zachowana od zepsucia grzechu, przez całe życie posiadała wolną wolę, nie była do niczego zdeterminowana. Dzisiejsze święto przypomina nam, że tak jak każdy z nas miała swoich rodziców, rosła, bawiła się, pomagała w prowadzeniu domu, miała swoich znajomych i krewnych. Dopiero Jej zaufanie, posłuszeństwo i pełna zawierzenia odpowiedź na Boży głos sprawiły, że "będą Ją chwalić wszystkie pokolenia".
