Live the Liturgy Inspiration for the Week As we gather on this Fourth Sunday of Advent our anticipation for the coming of the Messiah heightens and intensifies. Our desire to connect with the source of who we are, God Himself, takes on greater fervor. We anticipate the salvation Christ brings, which promises us a renewed spirit and freedom. We all long to be free. What binds us and prevents us from embracing what God desires to give? If we desire, we can taste this freedom now and then possess it fully when Christ comes! 3 Fourth Sunday of Advent Gospel Meditation Encourage Deeper Understanding of Scripture "She will bear a Son and you are to name Him Jesus." Joseph heard these prophetic words in a dream. They were words of anticipation, of what was to come. And in a sense, they ushered in a kind of Advent for Joseph. With this divine message, Joseph began a period of holy waiting. He now knew that the Messiah was going to be coming into his own home, and he had just nine months to prepare! We can only imagine how Joseph might have spent these precious days. Most likely he did more than prepare a physical home for his soon-to-be-born Son; he must have also used these days to prepare his heart, mind, and soul for such a tremendous mission. Today, we stand in a position not all that different from St. Joseph. We also know that the Messiah will be arriving--not just in remembrance at Christmastime, but in reality at the Second Coming. But unlike Joseph, we don't have an exact timeframe. We don't know when Jesus will return. We just know that we need to be ready! During the season of Advent we are challenged to recall this fact and strive to get our hearts in order. The days are short now until Christmas, and for all we know they might be short until Christ's return as well. What remains to be done? Aside from wrapping presents and planning parties, where do we yet need to tidy up our habits to properly celebrate the real meaning of this festive season? How can we make sure that we don't get swept away in the external preparations, forgetting the work that needs to be done in the invisible silence of our souls? God may not speak to all of us directly in our dreams, but He does speak to us clearly through His word. May we recognize today the Mission He has laid before us. Christmas Flowers Worship in our Church during the Christmas Season is an experience of beauty. Every member of the parish is invited to contribute to the beauty of our worship. We all received in the December envelope packet an envelope for Christmas Flowers. The collection for Christmas flowers is ongoing. Flowers may be given in honor, memory, in thanksgiving of a loved one, or celebration for people or events that are important to that donor. Thank you in advance for your generosity and for contributing to the beauty of Saint Stanislaus Kostka Church this Christmas. Annual Opłatek Dinner Dance The annual Oplatek Dinner Dance will be held on Saturday January 7, Tickets can be purchased at the Rectory, Polska Chata, Polish Federal Credit Union or after the Masses in the Church. The music will be performed by Dariusz (JANTAR) and our Polish Children will put on a presentation for us at 6:30 pm. Tickets are only $25 per adult, $15 per student and children under 7 free! Luminaries for the Lights of our Lives This Christmas we will be praying for all our loved ones who are celebrating Christmas with all the angels and saints in the Heavenly Kingdom. Remember them with a luminary. The soft glow of light will be a reminder that our beloved deceased family and friends are surrounding us at Mass and praying with us and for us. Please include the name of a person (in memory of) for each luminary. $5 for one. $3 for each additional luminary. All proceeds will go towards the Roof Campaign and CMA. The Lights of Christmas The most obvious symbol of Christmas are lights - Christmas candles. Window lights, luminaries, lights on the Advent Wreath and Christmas tree. All signifying that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World. Parish Membership: Parish Membership is necessary for Baptism, Matrimony, or Sacramental Sponsor Forms. In order for a Sponsor Form to be issued, one must be a registered, participating member of the Parish. Please notify the office of any changes on your registration form, telephone number, address, temporary absence, etc. Registration forms are available in the parish office. 4 Czwarta Niedziela Adwentu Zbliżamy się do świętowania narodzin Emmanuela - Boga bliskiego, Boga, który stał się jednym z nas, Boga z nami. Ewangelia z IV niedzieli Adwentu wprowadza nas w tajemnicą niezwykłego cudu narodzin. Z narodzeniem Jezusa Chrystusa było tak. Po zaślubinach Matki Jego, Maryi, z Józefem, wpierw nim zamieszkali razem, znalazła się brzemienną za sprawą Ducha Świętego. Mąż Jej, Józef, który był człowiekiem sprawiedliwym i nie chciał narazić Jej na zniesławienie, zamierzał oddalić Ją potajemnie. Gdy powziął tę myśl, oto anioł Pański ukazał mu się we śnie i rzekł: Józefie, synu Dawida, nie bój się wziąć do siebie Maryi, twej Małżonki; albowiem z Ducha Świętego jest to, co się w Niej poczęło. Porodzi Syna, któremu nadasz imię Jezus, On bowiem zbawi swój lud od jego grzechów. A stało się to wszystko, aby się wypełniło słowo Pańskie powiedziane przez Proroka: Oto Dziewica pocznie i porodzi Syna, któremu nadadzą imię Emmanuel, to znaczy: Bóg z nami. Zbudziwszy się ze snu, Józef uczynił tak, jak mu polecił anioł Pański: wziął swoją Małżonkę do siebie. Józef jest człowiekiem głębokiej wiary i zaufania wobec Bożych natchnień, których uważnie wyczekuje. Przyjąć Jezusa, jak on, nawet, jeżeli oznaczać by to miało rezygnację z własnych kalkulacji, oczekiwań i planów to jest głęboki sens każdego Bożego Narodzenia. Bóg rodzi się w naszej codzienności czasami zupełnie niespodziewanie; przychodzi w najmniej oczekiwanym momencie, stawiając nasze misterne kalkulacje pod znakiem zapytania. Twoja codzienność jest jak Betlejem, zabiegane wokół swoich spraw. Czy zrobisz wśród nich miejsce dla Boga, który chce na nowo wkroczyć w twoje życie? Kwiaty można ofiarować dla uczczenia swoich zmarłych lub specjalne intencje. Ofiary na kwiaty także można przynieść do Biura Parafialnego. Dziękujemy bardzo. Catholic Traditions Explained Question: How were the Prophets able to predict the coming of Jesus, the Messiah? Answer: For the most part, the first reading for the Sundays of Advent is taken from Old Testament prophetic literature. These passages, along with most other prophetic literature, weren't intended by the prophets themselves as predictors of Jesus' birth, life, and mission; a more accurate way to understand prophetic literature is to see it as addressing social, political, and religious issues of the day. God, speaking through the Prophets, calls His people to more faithful covenant living.
