3 5th Sunday of Easter "This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." When people watch us, do they know that we are the disciples of Jesus? As Christians, we are called to do more than love the Lord. We are called to be His witnesses in the world by loving others as well. In today's Gospel reading, He gave us a new commandment, "As I have loved you, so you also should love one another." Anyone, everyone, should be able to look at us and see this love in action. If we are not witnesses to this love, then we are falling short of our mission. So, how did Jesus love us? Selflessly. His love was never motivated by personal gain. On the contrary, He often suffered for us, and not just on the cross. He faced rejection and animosity for loving those who were considered "unlovable" in His culture. He lived a life of poverty and simplicity, never focused on amassing things for Himself, but always willing to give of Himself. This is the love we are called to imitate. The task can feel daunting. We are not perfect people, and being witnesses to Christ -like love can strike us as a lofty challenge. Of course, it's easier to be selfless and generous with people who love us in return, or with those who stir our compassion. But to be consistent witnesses to loving one another in all circumstances--like Jesus does for us--that takes it to another level. Thankfully, however, Jesus doesn't expect us to do this on our own. He promises us His Spirit to live in us and love through us. Through our baptism, we have His Spirit dwelling in our hearts, along with the supernatural gifts of faith, hope, and love. May we make these gifts flourish. Increased Offertory Program Commitment Sunday Our Increased Offertory Program Commitment Sunday is this weekend at all Masses. We encourage all parishioners to complete and turn in your commitment cards to the church. The Commitment Card contains information on how to plan your increased offertory gift to the church, and asks for your commitment over the next year. Year of Mercy First Friday Mass May 6 at the Cathedral You are invited to attend a Year of Mercy First Friday Mass on May 6, 2016 at 6:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester. This First Friday Mass, which will be followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and individual Confessions until 8:00 p.m., is the fifth in a series of special Masses to be held every month during the Year of Mercy (Dec. 8, 2015-Nov. 20, 2016). Pope Francis has declared that passing through the Holy Door of Mercy, located in our Diocese at the inside center entrance of the Cathedral, will offer the possibility of obtaining a Plenary Indulgence, a remission of the temporal punishment due to sins, by participating in the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Eucharist, praying for the Holy Father's personal intentions, and praying the Profession of Faith (the Creed). May Devotions During the month of May we have an opportunity to thank Mary, Mother of God, for all the blessings and favors that we received from God through Her intercessions. The May Devotions will take place Tuesday to Friday, with the 5:30 p.m. Mass, followed by the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and singing of the Litany to the Blessed Mother. May Devotions will start on Tuesday, May 3rd and end on Tuesday May 31st. Please come and take part in these beautiful devotions to our Blessed Mother. Strengthening the Church at Home Second Collection for Catholic Home Missions this Week There are over 80 home mission dioceses in the United States. These dioceses are unable to fund essential pastoral work, such as religious education, seminarian formation, and lay ministry training, without assistance. Because of this, they struggle to serve the unique needs of their communities. Through your support, the Catholic Home Missions Appeal helps to ease the struggle of these dioceses and to form vibrant faith communities. Please help strengthen the Church at home by giving generously to this appeal.

4 V Niedziela Wielkanocna Jezus pragnie by Jego uczniowie darzyli się nawzajem miłością. Czyli, by zabiegali o dobro swoich braci, by przebaczali sobie, pomagali, pocieszali w troskach i dzielili radości. Jednak przykazanie Jezusa nie kończy się na słowach byście się wzajemnie miłowali. Oto dopowiada Mistrz jeszcze znamienne tak, jak Ja was umiłowałem. Jak umiłował nas Chrystus? Cała Dobra Nowina jest objawieniem Bożej miłości. Cokolwiek Jezus mówi i cokolwiek czyni jest to wszystko podyktowane miłością. Istniejemy dzięki miłości i ona jest naszym pierwszym powołaniem. Dlatego zachęca Swoich uczniów do wzajemnej miłości, takiej, jaką On nas darzy. Jezus nie podaje jakiejś teorii On uczy nas Swoim przykładem. Abyście się wzajemnie miłowali tak, jak Ja was umiłowałem pragnie Jezus. Na kartach Ewangelii widać wiele przejawów tej miłości. Z miłością leczy, uzdrawia i wskrzesza z martwych, z miłością przygarnia dzieci, z miłością upomina Piotra, z miłością przebacza Magdalenie, miłość każe Mu przyjąć krzyż, z miłością modli się za Swoich oprawców i to Jego miłość kieruje ostatnie słowa z krzyża ku Ojcu, choć zdaje Mu się, jakby i On Go opuścił Miłość jest służbą, dawaniem siebie, oddaniem, otwieraniem się na drugiego. Do takiej miłości powołuje nas Bóg. Wzywając miłujcie się wzajemnie Jezus zna nasze serca, widzi naszą słabość, a jednak wielokrotnie ponagla do podjęcia wysiłku miłowania na Jego wzór. Uczyńmy więc wzajemną miłość p i e r ws z y m n a s z y m z a d a n i e m, rzeczywistym znakiem rozpoznawczym. Z miłością wykonujmy codzienne najprostsze czynności. Jesteśmy posłani, aby kochać. Uroczystość Polskiej Konstytucji 3-go Maja Polonia Civic Center będzie obchodzić 225 rocznicę Polskiej Konstytcji 3-go Maja w naszym kościele w czasie uroczystej Polskiej Mszy św. w tą Niedzielę, po której Polska Szkoła zaprasza wszystkich na Akademię w audytorium. After Mass the Polish Language School will present an academia for this event in the auditorium. Corporal Works of Mercy Just 1 Can Feed the Hungry Outreach Ministry Join us and practice the Corporal Work of Mercy to Feed the Hungry. Be part of the Just One Can project and support the Sr. Regis Food Cupboard which is under the direction of Sr. Julia. Just bring in 1 can (jar, bag, box) of food each week when you come to Mass.
