None of us knows when the world will end. All we know is that it will end. All things do. Many people choose to live a somewhat carefree life by living as if life will never end. They go from one day to the next, never giving a thought to the fact that today may be their last. If you knew exactly when your life will end, what would you do differently? As Christians, we are called to be people of beginnings and endings. God is in all of life even when we think that life cannot get any worse than it is. Creating life out of death is what God does best. We are asked to live vigilantly, seeing God in all things and being ever prepared to meet Hm, whenever that time comes. Special Thanksgiving Mass We invite you to come to our parish celebration of Thanksgiving Day. We will gather around the Table of the Lord at 9:30 a.m. We hope that you and your family will come to share in this Family Mass. We have prepared a liturgy of thanksgiving for all the blessings God has bestowed on our parish family.

3 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time As we edge closer to the closing of the Liturgical Year, the Church selects readings that remind us of the final close: the second coming of Christ. It's easy, perhaps, to forget that this is a dogma of our Catholic faith. We see this dramatic end times language in today's Gospel. "The sun will be darkened and the stars will be falling from the sky." As Christians and as human beings, we know all things will come to an end. "But of that day or hour, no one knows." The "end of the world" and end of time at Jesus' coming is in a future unknown. But God has given us beautiful reminders of this truth. We see the signs and symbols of ending all around us -- nightfall at the end of each day; the life cycle of crops coming alive, bearing fruit, and being harvested; our own death. That, too, will come at an unknown day and hour. But that is the way of things. Even as God created in Genesis, He gave us a sense of time -- the sun rising and setting, a beginning and an end -- to mark our days. So how do we welcome these built-in forms of measurement? Do we take time to quietly recollect at the end of each day? Do we see every morning as a fresh start for mercies new? Do we observe the seasons and reflect on what they might be speaking to us of God and His glory? "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My works will not pass away." The little beginnings and little ends are opportunities to renew our faith in Jesus, if only we have the eyes to see! Why Do We Do That? Catholic Life Explained Question: I've heard that gratitude is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. What does that mean? Answer: In St. Paul's letter to the Galatians, he talks about the "fruits of the Holy Spirit." He is referencing an idea that Jesus talks about frequently in the Gospels. "By their fruits you will know them" (Matthew 7:16). He uses the example of a plant. If the plant is healthy, it will bear good fruit. If the plant is unhealthy, it will bear rotten fruit or none at all. Jesus echoes this idea at the Last Supper, when He says that if we remain close to Him we will "bear much fruit" (John 15:8). If we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, we will bear the fruits of the Spirit! Technically, gratitude is not one of the fruits St. Paul lists. "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23). But doesn't that sound like the response of a grateful heart? When we're grateful, we experience a sense of joy and peace that makes it easier to love. We can be kind, patient, generous, and gentle with others rather than possessive or competitive. When we're grateful, we don't need to grasp at what we don't have. We practice self-control. Gratitude helps us to be faithful, knowing God will always be with us. Sounds like good fruit to me! Feast of Saint Stanislaus Kostka St. Stanislaus Kostka was proclaimed by Pope John XXIII a patron saint of Poland. Traditionally he is also a patron saint of youth. Polish immigrants venerate St. Stanislaus as their special intercessor, since he spent the last four years of his short life outside of his native country. Numerous churches in the world, especially in the United States, have been named after him - among them our parish church. Saint Stanislaus Kostka pray for us! A Thanksgiving Prayer This Thanksgiving, let us remember all the good things, and people, who have come into our lives. We focus on thanking each one who has helped us, and ultimately thank God for the good gifts of this world. Let us pray... God Our Father, Graciously accept from Your humble people a thankful heart and spirit. Everything we have and are able to share with others ultimately comes from Your Love of Your Creations. Often we think that everything we have is our own creation; we ask You this day to create in us a spirit of gratitude, that we may always know that all good gifts come from You. We ask this through Christ our Brother, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Please Pray for... 4 Wspomnienie św. Stanisława Kostki W dzień liturgicznego wspomnienia św. Stanisława Kostki, patrona dzieci, młodzieży i naszego koscioła jest dzisiaj odpust parafialny. Życie św. Stanisława, było pełne marzeń i wielkich pragnień dotyczących przyszłości. On juz od najmłodszych lat, poznając na modlitwie Chrystusa chciał to swoje życie zawierzyć Jemu. Chciał te swoje marzenia realizować razem z Chrystusem! Dlatego też wsłuchiwał się doskonale w wewnętrzne natchnienia, w to, co działo się w jego sumieniu i sercu. Dziś poprzez osobę św. Stanisława Kostki, Chrystus wzywa każdego z nas: bądź moim świadkiem! Dziś, podziękujcie Bogu za: rodziców, katechetów, kapłanów, za tych, którymi Bóg posługuje się, a oni współpracują z łaską Bożą, i pragną was umacniać dobrym słowem, wiedzą, a nade wszystko wiarą w Jezusa Chrystusa. St. Stanislaus Church is sponsoring a FREE traditional Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 22, Donations of turkeys (we need 5, pound turkeys) will be gratefully accepted. First we will gather around the Table of the Lord at 9:30 a.m. for a Family Thanksgiving Mass, during which we will give thanks for all the blessings God has bestowed upon our parish family. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 12:00 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Please call and let us know how many people are coming so we can prepare. Help provide a Thanksgiving dinner for families who depend on the Sr. Regis Food Cupboard. Close to 400 families in the highest poverty-stricken area of the city receive their basic food needs at the Food Cupboard. We want to fill 50 bags to help 50 families fill their Thanksgiving tables. If you can t fill a bag, please donate at least 1 or 2 items from the list below so as a parish family we fill a bag. Shopping list: chicken gravy, chicken stuffing, canned fruit (fruit cocktail, applesauce), cranberry sauce, bag of potatoes, rice, rolls, margarine, pies/ cakes/cookies. Our sale will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. and Sunday after the Masses. **Bake Food Sale November 17-18, 2018** Our pre-thanksgiving Bake Food Sale will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving. It will be after the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday and after the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses on Sunday. We want this fundraiser to be a great success. Happy Thanksgiving! As we approach the celebration of Thanksgiving this week, I would like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation for your selfless stewardship of time, talent and treasure.
