Life is constantly changing. While this can be exciting on one hand, change also presents challenges. We live in an age of relativism where people can pick and choose the truths that suit them and build their own system of beliefs. While humans certainly have the freedom to choose, losing sight of long-standing universal truths is not such a healthy course. Jesus Christ our King is our Universal Truth! He is the God who is nonnegotiable, our non-option! In Christ, we know what truth is. He alone points us to God, our true selves, our proper relationships with one another, and the world in which we live. Christ directs us to the poor and vulnerable and teaches us what God's Kingdom is meant to be. Christ is the King Who serves others. He gets dirty. He ascends the Throne of the Cross. We are called to do the same. A very warm welcome is extended to all who have come to St. Stanislaus Church to worship this Sunday. We are grateful to our parishioners and we welcome our guests who visit us this weekend. The Kingship of Christ has always been different than the world expected. Many of Jesus' disciples hoped for an earthly Messiah who would overthrow the Romans. But, as Jesus says in today's Gospel, His Kingdom is "not of this world." And yet it is a very real kingdom. Jesus is a very real Lord. And we are called to invite Jesus to be King of our lives. In the early 20th century, disillusionment with authority of all kinds was growing. Revolutions, atheistic thinkers, and World War I contributed to a rejection of faith. In 1925, Pope Pius XI called the Church and the world back to a sense of hope in Christ. He instituted the solemnity of Christ the King on the last Sunday before Advent. How is Jesus King of your life today?

3 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe If you brought your child to the restroom during the Liturgy of the Word, you might walk away with one of two interpretations of Jesus as King. The first and second readings are bold and victorious. We see Christ coming on the clouds for the Final Judgment of Heaven and Earth. The Gospel sets a very different tone. Jesus is under arrest and facing death before Pontius Pilate. We know how this story will end. So if Christ is King, what does it mean? Is He a glorious conqueror or a suffering servant? "My kingdom does not belong to this world." Here is the heart of Jesus' reign. He is a King -- and His "subjects" are alive and well on earth -- but, ultimately, Jesus' Kingdom transcends our earthly concepts of power. Jesus faced down the temptation of a solely earthly Kingship. At the close of his 40 days in the desert, the devil offered Him the Kingdoms of the world. Jesus only had to sacrifice His heavenly values and worship Satan. The same temptations to distort the Kingship of Christ are present to us today. Jesus' invitation also endures. "Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." It is important for us to belong to the full truth of Christ's Kingdom. First, our own hearts must be transformed. Our own rebellions in favor of selfishness and against holiness must be conquered by God's grace. Second, we must work to transform the world as best we can in our own corner of it. Like Jesus shows us by His Life and Death, this doesn't mean domination. It means service, sacrifice, respect, and love. Our lives must "testify to the truth" of Jesus Christ, who lays down His life for His people. That is the true beauty of Christ the King! Why Do We Do That? Catholic Life Explained Question: We live in a country that upholds the separation of Church and State. What is the role of Catholics in society? Answer: The role of the Church in the world has taken different forms over time, but the theme is the same. Be disciples in it! As the lay faithful -- that is, not vowed priest or religious -- we are called to live and love in the circumstances of our daily lives. St. John Paul II wrote a document about the laity. In it he wrote, "In their situation in the world God manifests His plan and communicates to them their particular vocation of seeking the Kingdom of God by engaging in temporal affairs and by ordering them according to the plan of God" (On the Lay Members of Christ's Faithful, 15). God wants us in the hospitals, the board rooms, the law offices, the food pantries, and the little league games! We are to engage in the affairs of the world. But when we're there, we should live the plan of God. We need to respect those around us, engage in just business and legal practices, and love our children. We should care for the earth, use our money wisely, and get to know our neighbors. We must advocate for social policies that respect human dignity and human freedom. No matter our state in life, we are invited to build the Kingdom of God! Parish Registration Card Update Drive There are new parish registration cards which reflect modern day media contact information. You will be contacted either by phone, or US Mail to verify your current information and update any changes. Our deadline for completing this project is December 15 th. If you don t hear from us, that means we don t have your correct contact information on file or you are not officially registered. Bring a Friend to Church! Advent (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") This Thanksgiving, wherever we are, we take time out to thank God for all of the graces and blessings given to us, our families and friends, and our Country. And we look forward to Christmas and the coming of our Lord. In order to help prepare the way in our hearts for Jesus, think about asking or bringing a friend to church. What better way to increase our faith than to ask someone we know to come and share in this most important part of our lives? Perhaps there is a friend from school, or a co-worker, or a family member that you can ask, Please come to church with me. With no pressure, suggest that they can come on their own, or come with you, but ask them to please, just come. Advent begins December 1st and 2 nd, and we wish to welcome anew any visitors at these weekend Masses. The Magi followed the Star to Jesus, may you be the Star that guides those dear to you, to Christ. Please Pray for... 4 Uroczystość Chrystusa Króla Obchodzimy dziś w Kościele Uroczystość Chrystusa Króla. Jest to ostatnia niedziela roku liturgicznego, za tydzień już będzie Adwent. Królowanie Jezusa różni się od tego, które znamy na co dzień. Królowanie pełne pokory i posłuszeństwa wobec Boga. Posłuszeństwa, aż do śmierci. Królowanie pełne miłości. Miłości aż do krzyża. Królowanie pełne dobroci i przebaczenia. Jeżeli Chrystus jest dla mnie Królem, to znaczy, że o n jest dla mnie najważniejszy, że w swoim życiu stawiam Go na pierwszym miejscu. Czyli, że nic na świecie nie będzie dla Ciebie ważniejsze od Boga, od Jezusa. Co to znaczy, że jestem uczniem Chrystusa, że o n jest moim Panem? To ważne pytanie. To znaczy, że mam odwagę się do Niego przyznać wszędzie tam, gdzie się znajdę, także wśród ludzi nie wierzących, także wśród tych, którzy śmieją się ze mnie i z mojej wiary. To znaczy, że potrafię znaleźć czas na niedzielną Mszę Świętą, że mam czas na chwilę codziennej modlitwy, bo nie wyobrażam sobie dnia bez rozmowy z Tym, który dla mnie jest najważniejszy. To znaczy, że w swoich kłopotach i trudnościach staram się oprzeć na Bogu, na wierze, a nie tylko na swojej ludzkiej mądrości i roztropności. Każdy z nas może coś zrobić, żeby Chrystus coraz bardziej królował. Może najpierw powinien zakrólować w naszych sercach. Jeżeli ty będziesz dobry, to więcej będzie dobra w świecie i więcej będzie Boga w świecie a ten świat coraz bardziej będzie prawdziwym Królestwem Chrystusa. Druga Taca w tym Tygodniu: Na Katolicki Uniwersytet The Annual Jesse Tree Project: November 17 thru December 9 th We have the names of 40 children- ages 5 months to 4 years old who are chronically ill, developmentally or physically disabled and receive services from Catholic Charities. Please put a smile on their face and twinkle in their eyes this Christmas. Take a heart from the Jesse Tree. To allow time for us to check that all the children have gifts and all are wrapped ALL GIFTS MUST be under the Jesse Tree or dropped off to the rectory by Sunday, Dec. 9 th. Catholic Charities will be picking them up on Tuesday, Dec, 11 th. Luminaries Remember Loved Ones Living or Deceased in Prayers This Christmas Season remember your living and deceased loved ones. Let them surround us with their light as we place luminaries to remember them throughout the church. We will pray for them at each Mass during the Octave of Christmas. PRAYERS are the BEST GIFT to give they NEVER END! Available after Mass or at the rectory. Just one food item helps to feed the hunger pains of the poor. Charitable Contributions for Your Financial Planning The year 2018 is coming to an end and soon we will have to file our taxes. Contributions to the church are tax deductible. Please consider the charitable contribution to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church as part of your financial planning. This is something that will benefit both the church and the donor.
