Stewardship Note: You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of The Lord Is At Hand. Patience is another one of those things many of us struggle with. We want things to go according to our plan and our schedule. Any change brings anxiety and fear. Through daily prayer we better align ourselves with God s will and His plan, which is far better than anything we can come up with on our own. THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 11, 2016 Those whom the LORD has ransomed will return and enter Zion singing, crowned with everlasting joy. - Isaiah 35:10a A SEASON OF HOPE Today we can bask in the imagery that the Mass readings offer us. In particular, Isaiah s vision of a parched land that blooms with abundant flowers holds a message for each of us. Too often we are just like that parched land. We can allow ourselves to become absorbed in the waves of consumerism that grip so many. We look for fulfillment in the things that money can buy. Unfortunately, this leaves us like parched land, thirsting for something that money can t buy. This holy season has much to offer to quench our thirsts. In a word, this season offers hope. We are told that those who are ransomed by God will know joy and gladness. For them, sorrow and mourning will be no more. Let us place our hope in these promises. This week s second collection is for Parish Obligation to the Diocese. Next weekend s second collection is designated for the Retirement Fund for Religious. ADVENT BUDDY MASS We ask our school students with parents and family to participate in our Advent Buddy Mass, on Sunday, Dec. 11th at the 9:30am Liturgy. During this service according to tradition Baby Jesus will be blessed. We encourage your presence in the spirit of preparation for Christmas. Principal, Mr. Hackenson will treat students to breakfast on Monday, December 12th in the school cafeteria CHRISTMAS PAGEANT - Curtain goes up - today, Sunday, December 11th at 2:00pm at the Bartlett High School Auditorium for Camel Lot presented by our school students. It has been a long-standing tradition that our pageant opens the Christmas Season. In our busy schedule we participate in many activities and sometimes forget the real meaning of Christmas. This children s presentation offers the opportunity to enhance the spirit of Christmas joy. As ticket sales have been brisk, come early to secure a prime seat for viewing. We invite parishioners, students, parents and friends to join us for an afternoon of Christmas joy and witness the talented school children. Tickets are available at the door Adults $8; Seniors and children $5 and SJS students will be admitted free of charge. See you at 2:00pm!

3 Page 3 PARISH COUNCIL CASH RAFFLE DRAWING Thank you to our parishioners, SJS students, parents and friends who joined us last Saturday evening for refreshements, singing Christmas Carols, greeting St. Nicholas and the Cash Raffle Drawing. Winners were: 1st prize $3,000-Sr. Jeanne and Sr. Valenta; 2nd prize $1,000-Ann Marie Canty and 3rd prize $500, Theresa Wagner. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who supported this annual event. We are grateful to our Parish Council Members and many parishioners who provided and prepared the delicious potpourri of food enjoyed by all in attendance. This turned out to be a successful fundraiser with a profit of $2167 to help defray our Parish Obligations to the Diocese. - Anthony Kusek, Chairman RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS On the weekend of December 17 & 18th we ask for your support for the Retirement Fund for Religious. Your generosity will make a difference in the lives of roughly 33,000 senior sisters, brothers and religious order priests who benefit from this annual appeal. Eldercare costs continue to rise while the number of religious requiring care grows putting a strain on many religious communities to provide a modest and safe retirement for aging members. Please give what you can in thanksgiving for the lessons of mercy senior religious have shared with us. PREPARATION FOR CHRISTMAS Angel Giving Tree - if you have not as yet chosen an ANGEL from our Angel Giving Tree please do so this week. Wrapped gifts must be placed under the tree by December 18. If you are making a monetary donation, please drop it into the collection basket or bring it to the rectory. Thank you for caring! Reconciliation Service - on Monday, December 19th at 6:00pm all parishioners will have the opportunity to go to confession at our Basilica. Clergy from visiting parishes will be available for your convenience. Please remember that confession is an integral part in preparation for Christmas Day. Oplatki - are available in the sacristy. Please continue the tradition of sharing the Christmas Wafer with your family on Christmas Eve. A donation of $3 per packet is appreciated. Christmas CD s - Children s Choir Polish & English Carols and St. Joseph Basilica Choir (Polish) are now available at $10 each. CONGRATULATIONS We want to congratulate Sr. Jeanne and Sr. Valenta as the First Place Winners of $3,000 in last week s Cash Raffle Drawing. They donated $500 to the St. Joseph School Gymnasium Fund and $2,000 to the Felician Sisters Motherhouse in PA. This is indeed an example of sharing and caring in the true spirit of Christmas. Let me take this opportunity to thank the Sisters for their continuous support of our religious program (Sr. Mary Ann) enhancing the Catholic Identity of SJS, and Friday Night Bingo (selling cards). We are fortunate to have them play such an important role in our parish, our school children and community. Czarnecki PIEROGI MARATHON In preparation for Christmas we ask parishioners to help us to make pierogi for our patrons. Due to an overwhelming response we ask you to join us in the St. Joseph School Cafeteria on Monday through Thursday, Dec., 12th 15th at 4:00pm. It is a great time to share your time and talent during this joyful season so that many can observe and enjoy the longstanding tradition of serving pierogi on Christmas Eve. JOSEPH Advent Season brings to our attention Blessed Mother and St. Joseph who are the central figures of the month of December. We encourage parishioners to take advantage on each Wed., to pray to God through the intercession of St Joseph for our own intentions. Please join us on Dec. 14th at 7:00pm. in our weekly Novena and Devotion to our Patron. You may want to state your intentions on the petition slips available in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chaplet to be read during the devotion. Our Eucharistic Ministers will carry our patron s statue into the sanctuary. We appreciate your offerings. NOVENA TO INFANT JESUS - begins on Friday, Dec. 16th as a traditional nine-day Novena of interrupted prayers. Friday Night Bingo - will be held on December 16th at the St. Joseph School Cafeteria. Bring family and friends for an evening of merriment and anticipation with the opportunity of winning holiday cash. Doors open at 5:00pm and games begin at 6:30pm. Members of the Sacred Heart Society will be on hand to assist our players. Proceeds benefit our parish. ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL NEWS SJS is proud to announce that two of their three robotics teams, Wings of Freedom and the Robo-Rescuers, have advanced to the State Tournament which will be held at W.P.I. on Dec., 17th. Forty-seven teams competed in the Shrewsbury Qualified Event, but only 14 advanced, including the two SJS teams. Even though the third team, King Cobraz, did not advance, they had an exciting day in the head-to-head robot competition. After a hard-fought tie-breaker, the team was 8 point short of advancing. However, they finished in the top 8 out of 47 teams. This is a great educational achievement for St. Joseph School and we are proud of their accomplishment. Congratulations and best wishes at the State Tournament! KRONIKA PARAFIALNA TRZECIA NIEDZIELA ADWENTU 11 grudnia 2016 Odkupieni przez Pana powrócą, przybędą na Syjon z radosnym śpiewem, ze szczęściem wiecznym na twarzach. (Iz 35, 10a) Dzisiejsza liturgia wzywa nas do radości z bliskiego przyjścia Zbawiciela, który niesie wybawienie ubogim, chorym, słabym i nieszczęśliwym. To właśnie ich szczęście ma być dla uwięzionego Jana Chrzciciela znakiem, że Jezus jest prawdziwym Mesjaszem. Stawajmy dziś przed Panem nie jako duchowi bogacze, którzy sądzą, że mają dość zasług, aby wymagać od Niego konkretnych łask, lecz jako ubodzy, którzy oczekują Jego przyjścia z wiarą, odwagą i tęsknotą, ciesząc się, że przyjdzie już niebawem, aby okazać nam swoje miłosierdzie.

Tytuł tegorocznego przedstawienia: Camel Lot Na to niezwykłe wydarzenie zapraszamy wszystkich parafian i przyjaciół. Nie zmarnujmy doskonałej okazji do ubogacenia się talentami naszych aktorów i jednocześnie do rozbudzenia w sobie ducha nadchodzących Świąt. DEKORACJE ŚWIĄTECZNE Nasza świątynia co roku w okresie Bożego Narodzenia przechodzi niesamowita transformację. Pojawiają się dekoracje, które pozwalają nam niemalże namacalnie odczuć atmosferę tych wspaniałych Świąt. Odmiana ta nie dokonuje się jednak automatycznie. Aby osiągnąć podziwiany przez wszystkich efekt potrzeba jest wielu godzin wytężonej pracy całej rzeszy ludzi. Dlatego zwracamy się o pomoc i wsparcie dla Altar Guild, które jest odpowiedzialne za te prace. Wszystkich, którzy chcieliby pomóc w dekorowaniu Bazyliki prosimy o kontakt z Sylwią Kitka, dla ustalenia szczegółów prac: LOTERIA Bardzo dziękujemy wszystkim parafianom, którzy wzięli udział w Loterii organizowanej przez Radę parafialną. Losowanie odbyło się ubiegłej niedzieli pośród ogólnej radości związanej z błogosławieństwem choinki i wizyta św. Mikołaja. RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS W najbliższy weekend odbędzie się zbiórka na Retirement Fund for Religious. Dzięki wsparciu wiernych możliwa jest pomoc dla około 33 tyś. sióstr i braci zakonnych oraz księży, którzy zakończyli już swoją posługę dla wspólnoty wiernych. Składając ofiarę na ten Fundusz wyrażamy naszą wdzięczność na wsparcie duchowe, jakie od nich otrzymaliśmy. Bóg zapłać w ich imieniu za otwartość serca. ANGEL GIVING TREE Serdecznie dziękujemy wszystkim, którzy przynieśli prezent dla potrzebujących. Istnieje jeszcze wiele potrzeb, które czekają na spełnienie. Bardzo prosimy o wybranie aniołka z drzewek znajdujących się przy ołtarzu i przy wyjściu z Bazyliki. Przez ten skromny dar możemy stać się prawdziwym aniołem dla kogoś, kto jest w potrzebie. Prezenty z przyczepionym do niech aniołkiem prosimy o składanie przy drzewkach. Ofiary pieniężne prosimy o przynoszenie do biura parafialnego. Zbiórka potrwa do 18 grudnia, tak aby ofiarowane prezenty mogły dotrzeć do potrzebujących przed Świętami. ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMAN S CLUB Doroczne spotkanie świąteczne organizowane przez St. Joseph Polish Woman s Club odbędzie się w najbliższy wtorek, 13 grudnia o godz. 17:00 koktajl i o 18:00 kolacja w restauracji Point Breez. SPOWIEDŹ ADWENTOWĄ Spowiedź Adwentowa dla naszych parafian odbędzie się w poniedziałek, 19 grudnia o godz. 18:00. W konfesjonałach posługiwać będą zaproszeni księża z innych parafii. Serdecznie zachęcamy do skorzystania z sakramentu pokuty i przygotowania się w ten sposób na nadchodzące święta. Przypominamy, że w naszej parafii spowiedź odbywa się w każdą sobotę po Mszy św. o godz. 7:00 oraz o godz. 15:00. Istnieje również możliwość umówienia się na indywidualną spowiedź. Osoby, które nie mogą dotrzeć na spowiedź z powodu wieku lub choroby prosimy o kontakt z biurem parafialnym i umówienie indywidualnej wizyty w domu. OPŁATKI Opłatki są częścią pięknej i starej tradycji. W Wigilię Bożego Narodzenia, kiedy pojawi się pierwsza gwiazdka, rodzina i bliscy gromadzą się wokół stołu, aby łamać się opłatkiem, który symbolizuje obecność Chrystusa. Dzielimy się między sobą miłością, jednością i przebaczeniem, życząc sobie nawzajem błogosławieństwa Bożego. Zapraszamy, aby kontynuować tę piękną tradycję w gronie najbliższych. Poświęcone opłatki są dostępne w zakrystii i na plebanii. PIEROGI Zakończył się już czas składania zamówień na pierogi. Tegoroczne zainteresowanie było bardzo duże i dlatego potrzebujemy wsparcia w przygotowaniu zamówionych porcji.
