SANCTUARY CANDLES For the week of November 13 through November 19 Blessed Mother Altar - Candle I In celebration of Ciocia Rosie s 95th birthday Given by Loving Family THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME November 13, 2016 Sing praise to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and melodious song. - Psalm 98:5 GOD S HEALING JUSTICE An old expression holds that the sunwarmed stone heals. Perhaps. But Malachi explains that only dark, sunless days are in store for those who do not find a place for God in their lives. Conversely, he tells us that the warmth and light of God s healing justice await those who fear the Lord. That s a pretty comforting notion especially now in the already short and growing even shorter days of November. It s the sun-warmed stone, and then some. Paul speaks to us of justice as well, but points out that it is not a passive thing. To be treated justly, we need to do our fair share. If we are diligent and persevere we will be rewarded with and by the fruits of our labor. Lastly, Luke, too, tells us to persevere in faith, this time and our lives will be secure in God regardless of how we are treated by our enemies. Second collection this week is for Parish Obligations to the Diocese. Next weekend s second collection is designated for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. PILGRIMAGE TO WASHINGTON, DC. On Saturday, Nov. 12th many people across this country will gather at the St. John Paul II National Shrine in Washington DC. Pilgrimages are an integral part of the Year of Mercy. We encourage our parishioners who did not participate in any pilgrimage as yet, to visit a designated church in the Diocese of Worcester and enter through the Holy Doors. 3 Page 3 Jubilee Year of Mercy As this Jubilee Year of Mercy comes to an end, Jesus first disciples ask what every age seems to wonder about the end of the world: Teacher, when will this happen? What sign will there be?. But instead of what we d like to know, Jesus tells us what we need to know. Don t be terrified by natural disasters, human violence, personal sufferings. Because God s mercy abounds, all is grace. It will lead to your giving testimony. So Malachi promises the sun of justice with its healing rays ; and Jesus describes how we should welcome the end: Stand erect and raise your heads, because your redemption is at hand. Rather than worrying about ourselves and the future s perils, both Jesus gospel and Pope Francis Jubilee Year of Mercy bid us go forth to spend our lives proclaiming God s promise of boundless mercy, but also translating God s mercy into living deeds of unfailing compassion and enduring comfort. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS 2016 TURKEY DRIVE This weekend, Nov. 12 & 13th our #12980 Council members will be holding their 2016 Turkey Drive before and after all masses. All proceeds go toward purchasing turkeys for needy parishioners and school families with the balance to the Webster Food Share. Please think of our friends and neighbors as we approach this giving time of the year to lend a helping hand to others. We appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness. CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT Pope Francis reminds us that we must pay attention back to the poor and our responsibility toward our brothers and sisters on the margins. Therefore on the weekend of Nov. 19 & 20th we will hold the Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection. Your generosity will be the primary source of funding for CCHD s anti-poverty grants and education programs like DART. Remember 25% of the collection stays here in our diocese. Through your efforts we can break the cycle of poverty. Please refer to Bishop McManus letter inserted into the bulletin. St. Joseph Basilica Conclusion of Jubilee Year of Mercy The Solemnity of Christ the King is always associated at our Basilica with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and devotion service at 3:00pm. On Sunday, Nov. 20th traditional devotions will be combined with the closing of the Holy Door symbolizing the end of the Extraordinary Year of Mercy. I strongly encourage parishioners to take part in this devotion in the spirit of gratitude for receiving graces throughout the year. We will also offer the prayer of expiation for those who did not take advantage of the Year of Mercy. Finally, we will renew our commitment to carry out God s gift of mercy throughout the coming year as we strive to encourage others to believe in Christ and accept his gift of life eternal. DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH Every Wednesday, at St. Joseph Basilica there is a Novena to St. Joseph the Patron of our Basilica and School. In the morning there is a brief novena to St. Joseph after Mass and in the evening there is a Votive Mass and novena to our Patron at 7:00pm. We encourage you to join our Basilica family on Nov. 16th. in the spirit of petition for all our needs. Members of the Parish Council will carry our Patron s statue into the sanctuary. Please print your intentions legibly on the petition slips to be read during the devotions. Your donations are appreciated. Friday Night Bingo-please join our Bingo Group on Fri., Nov. 18 at St. Joseph School cafeteria. Doors open at 5:00pm and our various games begin at 6:30pm. This week members of our Knights of Columbus #12980 Council will be on hand to assist our players. Proceeds benefit our parish. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION WEEK - Nov On this Sun., Nov. 13th we will observe the 18th annual Religious Education Week in the Diocese of Worcester. This year s theme is Prayer: The Faith Prayed. Through the efforts of the USCCB we will present retreats, prayers to recognize families and catechists, as well as thematic articles. There will be a special day of reflection for Catechists on Dec. 11th. May this Diocesan observance of Religious Education Week make us more appreciative in handing down the gift of faith to our young generation through religious education, prayer and divine worship. May Evan grow as a child of God through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A $500 donation for the new missalettes given by a devoted and generous parishioner who wishes to be anonymous. St. Joseph School Gymnasium - generous gift of $1,000 from Justyna Mietelski and her husband John in spirit of gratitude for their recent blessings. Justyna is a graduate of SJS where as a youngster she formed her character and heart which led her to her current successful career. Despite college loans this young couple graciously chose to support our gym project. Gift of $100 from the Holy Rosary Sodality in memory of Barbara Chodkowski and $100 in memory of Amy Kuklinski. Contributions for the month of October from our Gymnasium envelopes totaled $2674. KATOLICKA KAMPANIA NA RZECZ ROZWOJU CZŁOWIEKA Papież Franciszek przypomina nam, że musi nadal zwracać naszą uwagę na ubogich i naszej odpowiedzialności wobec naszych braci i sióstr odsuniętych "na margines". Dlatego w weekend 19 i 20 listopada odbędzie się zbiórka na Katolickią Kampanię na Rzecz Rozwoju Człowieka. Złożone ofiary będą przeznaczone na zwalczania ubóstwa i programy edukacyjne. Pamiętajmy, że 25% z zebranych funduszy pozostanie na realizowanie tych celów w naszej diecezji. Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na zobowiązania parafialne wobec diecezji. 5 Page 5 ROK JUBILEUSZOWY MIŁOSIERDZIA Pod koniec Jubileuszowego Roku Miłosierdzia, wsłuchujemy się w pytanie pierwszych uczniów Jezusa, którzy zastanawiają się nad końcem świata: "Nauczycielu, kiedy to nastąpi? Jaki znak będzie go poprzedzać? ". Ale zamiast tego, co chcieliby usłyszeć, Jezus mówi im, co powinni usłyszeć. Nie można się przerażać klęskami żywiołowymi, ludzką przemocą, osobistymi cierpieniami. Ponieważ łaska Boża obfituje i wszystko jest łaską. W Księdze Malachiasza czytamy, że wzejdzie słońce sprawiedliwości. Jezus opisuje w jaki sposób powinniśmy powitać koniec: Stańcie wyprostowani i z podniesioną głową, ponieważ zbliża się wasze odkupienie. Zamiast zatem zamartwiać się o siebie i niebezpieczeństwa które mogą nadejść powinniśmy angażować się w głoszenie obietnicy Bożego bezgranicznego miłosierdzia, ale także we wprowadzanie miłosierdzia Bożego w żywe akty niezawodnego współczucia i trwałe pocieszenia. ZAKOŃCZENIE ROKU MIŁOSIERDZIA Biskup Robert McManus zaplanował obchody zakończenia Jubileuszowego Roku Miłosierdzia na 20 listopada o godz. 15:00 w katedrze w Worcester. W naszej Bazylice będziemy obchodzić zakończenie Roku Miłosierdzia od 12:00 do 15:00. Nasze parafialne obchody zbiegają się z zakończeniem Roku Liturgicznego Uroczystością Chrystusa Króla. Zapraszamy do adoracji Najświętszego Sakramentu i odmawianie Koronki do Miłosierdzia Bożego w połączeniu z symbolicznym zamknięciem Drzwi Świętych. Nasze modlitwy będziemy ofiarować z wdzięcznością dla tych, którzy aktywnie przeżyli Rok Miłosierdzia, prosząc o dalszy rozwój ich wiary. Będziemy zanosili również modlitwy przebłagania za tych, którzy nie praktykują swojej wiary, lub też nie zaangażowali się w Roku Miłosierdzia. NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA W środę, 16 listopada, zgromadzimy się na Nowennie do św. Józefa Patrona. W kończącym się Roku jest to idealny czas dla nas, aby ocenić naszą przyszłość prosząc o błogosławieństwo Boga za wstawiennictwem naszego św. Patrona. Okażmy wdzięczność za to, co otrzymaliśmy, a także poprośmy do dalsze łaski. LOTERIA Kupony na loterię organizowaną przez Radę Parafialną są dostępne na plebanii lub u członków Rady Parafialnej. Losowanie odbędzie się w sobotę, 3 grudnia w kafeterii po Mszy św. o godz. 16:00. Kupony można nabyć w cenie $25 za jeden lub $50 za trzy.
