With regard to the embryo in the womb, science itself highlights its autonomy capable of interaction with the mother, the coordination of biological processes, the continuity of development, the growing complexity of the organism. So was Jesus in Mary s womb, so it was for all of us in our mother s womb. SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT December 4, 2011 Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. Mark 1:3 GOD S DELAY In times of great difficulties scoffers taunt us, Where is God? Why hasn t your Lord come to save you now? And we of faith respond much in the same way as Peter did in today s second reading: the delay of the Lord s second coming is not any type of punishment or failure to keep the divine promise, but a loving sign of God s patience. God is giving everyone the chance to seek repentance. God does not make life more difficult. Rather, God lessens our burdens as once before for the Jewish exiles returning home to Judea after captivity in Babylon. It was God who personally led them, making a straight highway for them across the desert. We join with our ancestors of faith, who hoped that they might see God s Chosen One before them and who eventually This weekend the second collection is taken for Diocesan Obligations. Next weekend the second collection is taken for the Retirement Fund for the Religious. The flowers in front of the Blessed Mother altar for the Immaculate Conception Holyday are given in memory of Ed- Children Advent Liturgy - Rorate -Every first Sunday of the month the 9:30 Liturgy is the Mass for children and parents. However, to reflect the beauty of the season of Advent and its meaning of the Mass we invite children with their parents to celebrated the Vigil on Saturday at 4:00pm. We ask the children to gather at the entrance of the church and take part in the procession with votive lights to the main altar. After the Mass there will be a tree lighting ceremony followed by a beef stew/chicken noodle soup dinner sponsored by St. Joseph School HSA. Tickets at $5 pp. are available at school. All are invited! 125th JUBILEE CHRISTMAS RAFFLE Early Bird 125th Jubilee Raffle winner is Norman Rudzinski. Congratulations! Enjoy your Cape Cod Weekend. The 125th Jubilee Christmas Raffle drawing will be held in the school cafeteria on Sat., Dec. 3rd after the tree lighting ceremony and dinner sponsored by the HSA. Page 3 ADVENT CONFESSIONS For all of us to receive the spiritual benefits of the sacred day of Christmas, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is essential, even for those who may not have serious sins. On Mon., Dec. 19th, at 6:00pm we will hold a Reconciliation evening for all parishioners including young people from the Religious Education Program. Several members of the clergy will be available to facilitate reconciliation for your convenience. We ask parents and grandparents to encourage family members to take advantage of the opportunity to receive forgiveness for sins through God s goodness and mercy. DIVINE MERCY DEVOTIONS This Sunday at 3pm we will sing the chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by benediction. This is an occasion for us to pray for good health, for the grace to be merciful toward others, for our country and for special intentions. Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. ANGEL GIVING TREE The Angel Tree in the sanctuary gives us the opportunity to exercise our Christmas spirit in the Advent Season. We encourage you to take an angel and make it part of your Christmas giving. By providing assistance to the children and elderly you are becoming an angel of wisdom, education, and charity to brighten the season of Christmas for those in need. There is a great need for tuition assistance for families who want their children to attend St. Joseph School but are having a difficult time meeting expenses in these hard economic times. Please place the angel on your gift and if it is a monetary gift please bring it to the sacristy or to the rectory before December 18th. May your Christmas gift put a smile on the faces of the needy but especially the children. FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Thursday, Dec. 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of our country. It is a day of obligation and I kindly ask you to refer to the attached mass schedule. It is fitting to venerate the mother of Jesus Christ especially in this Advent season asking God s blessings through her intercession. DECEMBER BIRTHDAYS Congratulations! JOSEPH BASILICA ALTAR GUILD HELP NEEDED - The Altar Guild is in need of additional volunteers to help in preparing the interior of the church for Christmas. Your positive response to this request will be greatly appreciated. Please call Fred & Sylvia Kitka at (508) KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS On behalf of the Knights of Columbus, I thank each of you who donated to the Thanksgiving Turkey collection. We were able to provide 138 turkeys to those in need. Each year at this time the St. Joseph community shows just how much we truly care for those in need. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT The Christmas Pageant is scheduled for Sun., Dec. 11th in the Bartlett High School Puliafico Auditorium. At 2:00pm the school children will present Christmas Around the World and Three Wee Kings. Tickets are $5 (adults & children over 12); $3 for seniors (60 & over and children 6 to 12); children under 5 will be admitted free of charge. Advance tickets are available at the school and rectory. The children invite all parishioners to join them in this special Christmas play. To experience Christmas through the eyes of the children and witness the various episodes from Christian traditions connected with Christmas is a great opportunity for all of us. In addition these are our children who proudly display their artistic skills, stage personalities and abilities. Therefore, they deserve to be recognized by our parish community. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Parishioners your help is needed! We are in need of someone to be a substitute catechist on call. If you are interested, please call the Religious Ed office. We will provide training. Echoes Course. Please note that we will be meeting on Wed., Dec. 14th at 7pm and not the 13th. Retreat for Grades 9, 10 and 11 on Dec. 10th from 8:30am to 2:30pm in the school. Come and grow deeper in your faith and learn why we pray and worship. Celebrating Advent-The Religious Education Department invites everyone to join us during Advent for the following special events to be held in the school cafeteria after the 9:30 Mass. 30 Minutes of Celebrating Advent includes video and activity. Dec. 4th Celebrate the gift of Jesus - making gifts for Jesus. Dec. 11th Christ the Savior is born -make your own special nativity set. Dec. 18th Follow that star -make your own Christmas Star for your Christmas Tree. VISITING STUDENTS FROM POLAND The visiting students from a private Catholic school run by the Pijars Fathers will be returning to Poland on Fri., Dec. 9th. Their last day of school will be Thurs., Dec. 8th. A farewell assembly will be held at 10:00am followed by a special meal at 11:00am for the visiting students, their host families and SJS 7th & 8th grade students and staff. We wish them a safe return to their families and school and a Blessed Christmas.

4 Page 4 RETIREMENT FUND FOR THE RELIGIOUS All parishes in the diocese will be taking the annual offering to support The Retirement Fund for the Religious this month. This collection will be on the weekend of December 10 and 11. We are all beneficiaries of the tremendous contributions these women and men have made to the Church in the United States. In thanksgiving for all that senior religious have done, let us share in their care by donating to the Retirement Fund for Religious and in praying for God s continued blessing on our elderly sisters, brothers and religious order priests. DONATIONS St. Joseph School-a donation of $1000 from an alumnus of St. Joseph who wishes to remain anonymous toward the tuition of one of our students. CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP Youth Only Candlelight Mass. Father Gregory will celebrate a very special Youth Only Candlelight Mass at the Youth Center on Wednesday, Dec. 7th at 6:00pm (please arrive by 5:45pm). All youths in grades 5-12 are invited to take part and participate in this Mass. This is always a very beautiful and moving event. Light snacks and beverages will be provided after Mass and youths are welcome to stay and hang out until 8:00pm. Please let Mrs. Valcour know if you will be attending. Wii Bowling at Christopher Heights-The Jr. & Sr. Youth Groups will have another Wii Bowling contest with the residents of Christopher Heights on Tues., Dec. 13th from 6-7:15pm. (Mk 1, 3) BÓG SIĘ SPÓŹNIA W trudnych czasach szydercy wyśmiewają się z na s pytając: Gdzie jest Bóg?, Dlaczego teraz twój Pan nie przyjdzie, żeby cię uratować? A my w odpowiedzi przepełnionej wiarą, podobnie jak św. Piotr mówimy, że opóźnienie to nie wynika z tego, jakoby Bóg nie dotrzymywał swojej obietnicy, albo też w jakikolwiek sposób nas karał. Jest to raczej znak Boskiej cierpliwości, gdyż w ten sposób daje On szansę do skruchy. Bóg nie czyni naszego życia trudniejszym. Raczej zmniejsza nasze utrapienia, podobnie jak to uczynił dla Żydów, kiedy powrócili z niewoli babilońskiej do Judei. To Bóg osobiście wiódł ich prosta drogą poprzez pustynię. Dołączajmy do wiary naszych przodków, którzy mieli nadzieję ujrzeć Wybrańca Bożego i mieli świadomość, że Bóg idzie razem z nimi.
