May we share with one another the treasure of love s memory and console one another with the assurance of resurrection. If we died with Christ, we believe we shall also live with him. - Romans 6:8 LOOKING TO THE LAST DAY Today the Church remembers all who have walked the way of Christ and passed from this life. The readings all look to the last day, when we shall all rise from the dead and be reunited. The prophet Daniel announces words of warning and welfare. He cautions us against the judgment to come, but he also comforts us and assures us that all who live a life of virtue and justice will find life eternal. The reading from Romans reminds us that, because of Christ s passion, death and resurrection and our entrance into that paschal mystery through baptism, we now share in the new life won by Christ. This recognition has repercussions: we need to live righteously now, that we might rise to life forever with Christ on the last day. In the Gospel Jesus pledges that all the Father has given him will not be lost. All the faithful will be raised to joy and live forever in the presence of God. The second collection this week is for Diocesan Obligations. Next weekend s second collection is designated for Higher Energy and Fuel Costs. ALL SOULS DAY Today, Sunday, November 2nd we welcome members of the St. Joseph Polish Women s Club at 8:15am Liturgy to remember all deceased members. All Souls Day is believing in life after death. This belief goes back thousands of years. That faith in life eternal was embodied in various cultures which created customs and traditions. It was believed that the shadows of death on All Souls Day visit churches and participate in the Mass. Pagans believed that the souls were given the privilege to visit homes and the living prepared various food set out on a table. We invite everyone to our Basilica at 5:00pm to our Annual Mass of Remembrance, especially those who lost loved ones during this past year. The most effective prayer is the Eucharistic Sacrifice of Mass. Have you scheduled a mass for your family members who were such a big part of your life? All Souls Day is like Christmas for the deceased - everyone expects a gift. Members of the Bereavement Committee will be in attendance. FAMILY MASS This Sunday is the first Sunday of the month and we celebrate our Family Mass when all students and parents attend 9:30am Mass. Athletic teams from fall sports will be recognized at the this Liturgy. A social will follow in the school after Mass.

As the old expression goes, spring ahead, fall back, meaning before bed on Saturday night, set your clock BACK one hour.. REFLECTIONS / ANNUAL CEMETERY PROCESSION We are very grateful to all who participated in the Annual Procession at St. Joseph Garden of Peace in commemoration of All Souls Day. It was encouraging to see a large number of parishioners and non-parishioners who joined us for this prayerful day of remembrance. Many votive lights placed at the gravesites of our loved ones provide a special aura for the visitors in the evening. We are grateful to Sylvia and Fred Kitka, George Baldowski, and Dottie Kasierski for their assistance in sprucing up and preparing our cemetery for the many faithful who participated in this annual event. Thank you to the Clergy, our Choir Director, Robert Wojcik, Parish Organizations, Boy Scouts, Altar Servers, and Children of Mary for their presence. We appreciate the assistance of our new manager Gabor Tolnay and supervisor John Szymczak. Your prayerful participation made you feel good by doing something meaningful for the souls of your loved ones. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY November 2nd is the first Sunday of the month, therefore Devotion to the Divine Mercy will be prayed at 3:00pm followed by Benediction. We are all in dire need of God s goodness, love and mercy. Please make a special effort to join us for this special devotion asking our Lord for his graces in our lives. NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH Devotions to St. Joseph will be held on Wed., Nov. 5th at 7:00pm. We invite parishioners to join us and write their intentions to be offered during the Novena. Remember to use the intention request cards which are available in the Chapel. Please designate if you wish your intentions to be read publicly or known only to the celebrant during the Novena. Our Parish Eucharistic Ministers will carry the statue of our Patron to the sanctuary. As always we are grateful for graces requested through the intercession of St. Joseph and the offerings you place in the petition box. SCHOOL NEWS This past week Principal, Mr. Cushing and 8th grade teachers, Mary Ann Weaver presented a check in the amount of $1, to the Harrington Hubbard Hospital Emergency Fund as proceeds of our students recent Bike-A-Thon/Walk-A -Thon. Thank you to all who supported this worthwhile cause. We appreciate the volunteers from Nichols College who recently visited SJS and served as readers for our Pre-K5, K, grades 1,2 & 3 students and also in our After Care Program. The winter sports season is about to begin and tryouts will begin in the Middle School gym shortly. Our students are busy preparing for their Annual Christmas Pageant which will be held on Sunday, Dec., 13th. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Next meeting - is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5th at 7:00pm in the school conference room. The Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Council has for the past 9 years raised money during this time of year to help feed those who need help. Last year we raised enough to feed 140 families. On the weekend of November 8th and 9th, we will be collecting again at St. Joseph s. Please help those who need a little extra at this time of year. We appreciate the generosity of our Basilica Knights of Columbus (#12980) for providing 54 shades for our school windows. Their outstanding donation of $1, is truly a sign of their dedication and concern for our school. FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH-will be observed on November 7th. The Mass at 7:00am will be offered for the deceased Members of the Sacred Heart Society. Parishioners and friends are invited to attend and recite the usual prayers with the Litany to Sacred Heart of Jesus. Scheduled adorers are asked to participate at the appointed time during the day and adoration will conclude at 3:00pm by praying the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy and Benediction. Mass in the Polish language will be celebrated at 7:00opm. Save the Date-Saturday Polish School is sponsoring a Dance on Sat., Nov., 22nd from 6:30pm-12:30am at PACC. 5 Page 5 KRONIKA PARAFIALNA TRZYDZIESTA PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA DZIEŃ ZADUSZNY 2 listopada 2014 Jeżeli umarliśmy razem z Chrystusem, wierzymy, że z Nim również żyć będziemy. (Rz 6, 8) PAMIĘTAJĄC O OSTATNIM DNIU Dziś Kościół wspomina wszystkich, którzy szli drogą Chrystusa i już odeszli. Dzisiejsze czytania wszystkie odnoszą się do dnia ostatecznego, kiedy my wszyscy powstaną z martwych. Prorok Daniel wypowiada słowa ostrzeżenia i jednocześnie roztacza wizje dóbr przyszłych. Ostrzega nas przed nadchodzącym sądem, ale również pociesza i zapewnia nas, że wszyscy, którzy będą żyć cnotliwie i w sprawiedliwości znajdą życie wieczne. Czytanie z Listu do Rzymian przypomina nam, że dzięki męce, śmierci i zmartwychwstaniu Chrystusa oraz naszym w nich udziale poprzez chrzest, teraz uczestniczymy nowym życiu zdobytym dla nas przez Chrystusa. Ten przywilej ma jednak swoje konsekwencje: musimy żyć sprawiedliwie teraz, abyśmy w dniu ostatecznym mogli wznieść się do życia na zawsze z Chrystusem. W Ewangelii Jezus obiecuje, że wszystko, co dał mu Ojciec nie zostanie utracone. Wszyscy wierni zostaną podniesione do radości i będą żyć wiecznie w obecności Boga. RÓŻANIEC ZA ZMARŁYCH Podobnie jak w roku ubiegłym, w oktawie Wszystkich Świętych będziemy spotykali się na modlitwie różańcowej w intencji naszych bliskich zmarłych wspominanych w corocznych Wypominkach. Na Różańcu za zmarłych spotykamy się w poniedziałek, wtorek oraz czwartek o godz. 19:00 PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA W najbliższy piątek przypadają obchody Pierwszego Piątku Miesiąca. Msza św. o godz. 7:00 będzie odprawiona w intencji zmarłych członków Sacred Heart Society. Po Mszy św. Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu. DZIEŃ ZADUSZNY Obchody Dnia Zadusznego są przejawem wiary w życie po śmierci. Ta wiara sięga tysięcy lat wstecz. Jest obecna w różnych kulturach i wierzeniach na całej ziemi, które wytworzyły różnorodne tradycje i rytuały. Poganie wierzyli, że dusze zmarłych miały przywilej odwiedzania domów i pożywiania się przygotowanym dla nich jedzeniem. W tradycji chrześcijańskiej natomiast funkcjonowało przeświadczenie, że w Dzień Zaduszny dusze zmarłych nawiedzają kościoły i uczestniczą we Mszy św. Na naszej Bazylice o godz. 17:00 zapraszamy wszystkich na naszą doroczna Msze za zmarłych, zwłaszcza tych, którzy odeszli w przeciągu ubiegłego roku. Pamiętajmy, ze dla tych, którzy w czyśćcu oczekują na wieczną nagrodę najlepszą pomocą jest ofiarowana w ich intencji Masza św. Dzień Zaduszny jest jak Boże Narodzenie dla zmarłych. Wszyscy oczekują prezentu od nas w postaci modlitwy. PROCESJA NA CMENTARZU Jesteśmy bardzo wdzięczni wszystkim, którzy wzięli udział w ubiegła niedzielę na naszej corocznej procesji na naszym parafialnym cmentarzu, organizowanej z okazji Dnia Zadusznego. To wspaniałe wydarzenie, które zgromadziło dużą liczbę parafian i nie -parafian, połączonych modlitewną zadumą i pamięcią o naszych bliskich zmarłych. Zapalone znicze utworzyły wspaniałą atmosferę zwłaszcza w godzinach wieczornych, przypominając swoim światłem, że cmentarz jest miejscem spoczynku przepełnionym nadzieję na wieczne życie. Jesteśmy wdzięczni Sylvii i Frederickowi Kitka, George owi Baldowskiemu oraz Dottie Kasierski za pomoc w przygotowaniu naszego cmentarza na tę uroczystość. Dziękujemy księżom, panu organiście Robertowi Wójcik, organizacjom parafialnym, skautom, ministrantom oraz Dzieciom Maryi za obecność. Doceniamy pomoc naszego nowego opiekuna cmentarza Gabora Tolnay i jego pomocnika Johna Szymczak. NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA Nabożeństwa do świętego Józefa odbędzie się w środę 5 listopada o godzinie 19:00. Zapraszamy i zachęcamy parafian i wszystkim, którzy szukają wstawiennictwa św. Józefa, przedstawiali swoje intencje zapisując je na specjalnych formularzach znajdujących się w kaplicy Matki Bożej. Jesteśmy również wdzięczni za modlitwy dziękczynne kierowane do Boga za otrzymane łaski. SAINT JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN S CLUB Uwaga! - W ten weekend, po wszystkich Mszach św., członkinie SJPWC będą sprzedawały bilety na Splash of Panache Vendor Event, który odbędzie się w niedzielę, 9 listopada w godz. od 13:00 do 17:00 w Point Breeze Restaurant. Cena jednego biletu: 20 dolarów. Każdy uczestnik otrzyma przy wejściu upominek. Będzie można również nabyć kupony na loterię w cenie 10 dolarów. RELIGIA Katecheza - W poniedziałek 3 listopada spotykamy szkole o godz. 17:30 zajęciach katechezy. Bierzmowanie Program spotkań dla kandydatów do Sakramentu Bierzmowania został rozesłany do kandydatów. Pierwsze spotkanie odbędzie się dziś, 2 listopada o godz. 8:15 na plebanii. Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne. Druga kolekta w przyszłym tygodniu będzie przeznaczona na pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
