APRIL 12, 2015 Our Lady of the Assumption Page 4 OUTREACH PROGRAM Seems like there are a lot of smiling faces around; could it have anything to do with school opening tomorrow? The clients came in lamenting what a long week this has been and their kids look at them with disbelief...it was the shortest week they ever saw! We are often asked why we don t need personal items such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, tooth paste, tooth brushes and other toiletries. It is not because we don t need them we do. It is just that when it comes to priorities, I am sure you will agree that food is first. Cleanliness is a very close runner-up. This week we are going to ask for the canned foods, carbs, peanut butter, any and all edibles. We are also going to let you know that if you throw in a tooth brush or a bar of soap or disposable razors, we promise you that they will be very much appreciated by our clients. The Outreach Bunch RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CENTER REGISTRATIONS SCHOOL YEAR 2015-2016 Registration and re-registration for all students will begin Tuesday, June 2 and continue through Thursday, September 17. The requirements and schedule for registration will be published in the church bulletin and on the OLA website no later than May 23. There are many different games of chance for your entertainment pleasure, or perhaps you just want to practice for an upcoming trip to Atlantic City or Las Vegas! Your goal is to accumulate as many gaming chips as possible. The chips are not converted into cash, but rather raffle tickets for some great prizes. The more chips you have, the more raffle tickets you get and the better chance you have to win! When you enter Casino Night you will receive $1000 in PLAY Money. This is then converted into gaming chips at any of our tables. If you run out of chips you can purchase additional PLAY money and continue playing. If you win, you cash out your chips for vouchers which are then converted into raffle tickets for some great prizes. JOHN PAUL II STATUE We are very appreciative to the Parishioners who have donated funds to honor Pope St. John Paul II by having a statue commissioned to be erected here at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. On Sunday, May 24th, at 3:oopm, there will be a special Mass in the Auditorium to be concelebrated by Most Reverend Bishop William F. Murphy and Most Reverend Bishop Andrzej Zglejszewski in all three languages. The blessing of the Statue will take place immediately following the Mass. The Knights Of Columbus-OLA Council will hold a Membership Drive on the weekend of April 18th & 19th after all Masses.Men of the parish are urged to join this worthy Catholic fraternal/family organization. St John-Paul once praised the Knights of Columbus as 'the right arm of the Church'. The OLA Council strives to uphold that praise through our charitable works and programs. You can help young women cope with their pregnancies and experience the feeling of good will that accompanies the task. The ultimate birthright goal is to offer help. Our volunteers come in from 10:30AM to 2:00PM, one day a week. We need you at the Birthright office 533 Main St, Islip. The next training session will begin at the end of April. JESUS IS RISEN. ALLELUIA! Hopefully we have spent this week reveling in the Resurrection of Jesus. The Church gives us an entire season of fifty days to continue this celebration. (Although, in truth, every Sunday is a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.) Today s first reading is an account of the astounding lives that the first Christians were living. It should give encouragement to all those who work tirelessly to assist the needy. Our own Outreach workers and all who carry heavy bags of groceries to Church each week come to mind as living examples of this reading. On the evening of the Resurrection, when Jesus appears to eleven of his Apostles, his message is PEACE. Peace be with you. Jesus repeats to his Apostles again peace I give to you. This is not a worldly peace, but the true peace of seeking eternal life; for no peace is true if it will come to an end. So let us spend these weeks of Easter trusting in Jesus, seeking his forgiveness, and living in his peace seeking him always. Jesus is Risen, Alleluia!
