Przedstawione zostaną też sposoby, w jakich nasze parafie już przygotowują się na przyszłość. W Archidiecezji Chicagowskiej, 32 parafie ukończyły już wstępną fazę całego procesu. Teraz te 32 parafie zmniejszą się do 19. Tu w naszym własnym wikariacie, z 61 parafii oraz misji obejmujących południowo-zachodnie dzielnice miasta i przedmieścia, w programie odnowy wzięły do tej pory udział trzy parafie. Wskutek tego, ogłoszono połączenie parafii św. Adriana oraz Matki Bożej Królowej Wszechświata w dzielnicy Marquette Park. 38 parafii, które rozpoczęły rozmowy zjednoczeniowe zeszłej zimy, znajduje się teraz w funkcjonujących zgrupowaniach. Rozmowy między nimi zakończą się pod koniec bieżącego roku. Pierwsze parafie, stworzone w ramach inicjatywy Odnów mój Kościół, ogłosiły swoje nazwy. Kościoły pod wezwaniem: świętej Filomeny (1921 N. Kostner Ave.) połączą się w jedną parafię świętego Józefa Sáncheza del Río przy czym wszystkie trzy świątynie wchodzące w jej skład pozostaną czynnymi miejscami kultu. Kościoły św. Celestyna w Elmwood Park oraz św. Cypriana w River Grove będą odtąd tworzyć parafię świętej Teodory Guérin, przy czym oba wymienione kościoły pozostaną czynnymi miejscami kultu. Kościół Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa w Winnetka oraz św. Filipa Apostoła w Northfield znane będą jako parafia Miłosierdzia Bożego i oba kościoły pozostaną czynnymi miejscami kultu. Kościoły świętego Bedy (Ingleside) oraz św. Piotra Apostoła (Antioch) wspólnie stworzą parafię Matki Bożej Królowej Jezior oczywiście, oba kościoły pozostaną czynnymi miejscami kultu. Niedawno ogłoszono powstanie nowej parafii z połączenia kościołów pod wezwaniem św. Daniela, św. Joanny de Chantal, Matki Bożej Większej i św. Kamila. Zapewne zadajecie sobie pytanie: Po co to wszystko? I dlaczego teraz? Archidiecezja wdraża program Odnów mój Kościół z trzech powodów demografia, finanse i możliwości. Most of you have heard of the Archdiocesan initiative Renew My Church. When fully implemented, it will mean many changes here in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Some of these changes may include closing or merging parishes; sharing staffs and programs between parishes; reallocating priest responsibilities and more. Every parish and school in the Archdiocese of Chicago will participate in Renew My Church over the next several years. This explanation of this effort is meant to assist you in understanding the process. It is important that you hear about Renew My Church, as all the groupings in our area are activated. The articles about Renew My Church we will speak honestly about the rationale for the process, reveal some details of how it will be implemented, and share in what ways our parishes are already moving forward. Thirty-two parishes in the Archdiocese have already completed their discernment phase of the process, with the result that those thirty-two parishes will be reduced to nineteen parishes. In our Vicariate, of the sixty -one parishes and missions that encompass the southwest side of the city and the southwest suburbs, three parishes have gone through the process to date. The results of which have led to the recently announced merger of Saint Adrian and Queen of the Universe in the Marquette Park community. Currently, thirty-eight Archdiocesan parishes are in activated groupings, having begun their consultations this past winter. These groupings will complete their efforts by the end of the year. The first new parishes created as part of the Renew My Church process have announced their names. St. Philomena, 1921 N. Kedvale Ave.; Maternity B.V.M., 3647 W. North Ave.; and St. Francis of Assisi, 932 N. Kostner Ave., will unite to form San José Sánchez del Río Parish, with three churches as active worship sites.. St. Celestine, Elmwood Park, and St. Cyprian, River Grove, will unite to form St. Mother Theodore Guerin Parish, retaining both churches as active worship sites. Sacred Heart, Winnetka, and St. Philip the Apostle, Northfield, will unite to form Divine Mercy Parish, retaining both churches as active worship sites. St. Bede, Ingleside, and St. Peter, Antioch, will unite to form Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, retaining both churches as active worship sites. Just recently, it has been announced that the grouping of St. Daniel, St. Jane, Our Lady of the Snows, and St. Camillus have been activated. Some may ask the questions: Why are we doing all of this? Why now? Let us briefly address some of the rationale behind this effort. The Archdiocese is initiating because of three realities: demographics, finances, and opportunities, that is, strength in numbers. In the Archdiocese of Chicago, over the last thirty years, the number of Catholics attending Sunday Mass on a weekly basis has dropped from 580,000 to 410,000. In that same timeframe, the number of non-retired diocesan priests has fallen from 860 to around 500 (and an estimated 240 priests by 2030). Over 80% of the parish buildings in the Archdiocese are over 80 years old. Finally, we have nearly 50 parishes that have less than 300 people on Sunday and another 70 that have between 300 and 600 worshippers. This represents about 1/3 of all parishes. Many of the smaller congregations have challenges providing a full range of pastoral services and opportunities. Renew My Church has already created new parishes from the merger of several smaller parishes. When done well, these mergers have resulted in more vibrant and prayerful liturgies, stronger and more professional outreach in areas such as youth ministry, catechesis, and adult faith formation. Often, we can do together what we cannot do alone. Another opportunity is the ability for each of us to renew our commitment to live out our calling to be missionary disciples. This is a chance to evaluate our relationship to Jesus Christ and to His church. To address these factual realities, to ensure every parish is fully comprehensive in meeting the various needs, and to insure that there is a more equitable distribution of priests, Renew My Church has begun.
