St. William Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. William, This is the first Sunday of Lent. In the gospel according to St. Mark, we heard that the Spirit drew Jesus into the desert for 40 days to face temptation. We just started our Journey of Faith last Wednesday. We have time during Lent to prepare ourselves to celebrate Easter but before we do that we must work on our spiritual life and spend more time with Jesus. The more time we spend with him the stronger we will be against the temptation to sin. During Lent three things are important: Prayer, Fasting & Almsgiving. This is a great opportunity to have more prayer time by coming to the Stations of the Cross at 2:30 with the school children or 6:00pm with the parish. Monday Saturday we say the rosary at 7:30am followed by 8:15 Mass. We have mass at Noon every Thursday followed by Eucharistic Adoration until 4:15pm. On March 13 we will have a very powerful presentation of the Passion of Christ, performed by The Youth of Chicago. What about Fasting? I hope everyone will give up something; drinking, smoking, sweets, swearing, gossiping, watching too much TV, too much time texting, on the phone or the internet. By clearing away the things that block us from God we will be better able to hear his voice and do his will. Almsgiving opportunities: We can support our Teen Youth Group by purchasing meatless meals on Friday s during Lent from 4:30 7:00pm in Liebrich Hall. This Friday is a Pasta Dinner donated by Giordano s in Oak Park. This is also a time to give more to the poor, through our St. Vincent de Paul Society or any charity of your choice. There is also the Annual Catholic Appeal which helps Catholic in this country and around the world, or the Rice Bowls to help feed the poor in other countries. This is also a season of repentance so don t forget the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We have Confessions every Saturday from 3:30 4:15pm, also every First Friday, so March 7th confessions from 7:30 8:15am, followed by Mass. Our big parish Reconciliation prayer service will be Wednesday, April 1 at 6:00pm in English, Spanish, Italian and Polish. This is a great time to reconcile with God and your family members. Page Five On Monday, February 23rd there will be an all parish, all school and all organization meeting at 7:00pm in Liebrich Hall. We are meeting about our 100 Year Anniversary coming up in 2016. We have so many plans and hopes for our 100th anniversary but it will take many hands and many great ideas to put together a wonderful year leading up to Sunday, October 2nd, when we have the big dinner dance at Elmcrest Banquets! I am asking for 2 representatives from each organization of every single ministry and group that meets at or serves St. William, including the school. 2 reps from Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, St. Rocco, Seniors, Ministers of Care, Eucharistic Ministers, Choir, Knights of Columbus, Ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, Polish groups, Youth Group, Athletic Association, Parents Group, Teachers, Money Counters, EVERYONE! And most important, PARISHIONERS. We need parishioners that will donate your time and talent. (It s a great thing to do for Lent!) This is the only 100th Anniversary that we will live to see Let s make it extraordinary!! I am counting on all of you. Thank you all. I want to say a special thank you to the following people: The anonymous donor who gave $1,000. Polish family who gave $400. The Polish Rosary Group who organized the Polish Oplatek, donated $1,500. The St. Rocco Society who organized the Spaghetti Dinner, donated $1,500 to the parish and $1,000 to the school. I am so grateful for these generous donations. I am also grateful to our generous parishioners who give faithfully every Sunday thank you, thank you, thank you! I am so proud of our parishioners and special groups who keep our parish and school in business. God Bless you all. Please mark your calendars for March 7th for the Blue & White Ball. We will have Mass at 4:30pm, followed by the school open house from 5:30 6:30pm. Then at Elmcrest Banquets cash bar opens at 6:30, dinner at 7:30pm. We are selling dinner tickets and raffle tickets at the church or at the rectory. There will be split the pot, raffles, and silent auction. REFLEKSJA DO CZYTAŃ IEDZIEL YCH 1 iedziela Wielkiego Postu 1. W pierwszym czytaniu (Rdz 9,8-15) słyszymy o przymierzu Boga z Noem zawartym po potopie. W Wielkim Poście chcemy sobie uświadomić i celebrować nowe Przymierze, jakie Bóg zawarł z każdym z nas poprzez cierpienie, śmierć i zmartwychwstanie Chrystusa. 8pm.
