Thoughts from our Pastor. Once an elderly lady approached a priest. She told him that her husband had recently died and she was going to make a significant donation to the parish. As they conversed, she revealed that she planned to will most of her estate to the Church and to other charitable causes. The priest asked her why she was doing this, did she not have any children? "Yes, I do," she said. Then she smiled, "but I want them to be sad when I die!" Each person of course has to decide what to do with their estate, but one thing is clear. As Jesus points out today, none of us can take it with us. As Job said, "naked I came into this world and naked I shall depart." We should keep the end of our life always before us. Some people say they would prefer to die in their sleep. I personally pray for that kind of death. But, to be honest, none of us knows how or when he will die. Jesus reminds us to be prepared: Of any person - of you or me - this very day, this very night, God may require one's soul Fr. Wydobyto mnie nieprzytomną i ciężko ranną spod gruzów. Od tego momentu już nic nie gromadzę. Tak Bóg uczył mnie ewangelicznego ubóstwa. Przypomina mi się to wyznanie w zestawieniu z przypowieścią Jezusa o bogaczu budującym spichlerze Ks. Harding Ave. Chicago, IL 60632 Phone: 773-847-0697 Email: office@stbruno.com Dear Friend of St. Bruno School, Saint Bruno School has been part of the Archer Heights community for the past 84 years. It has grown from a little school located above the Church to a thriving school of over 200 children from preschoolers to 8 th graders. Saint Bruno School has always prided itself in quality education with an emphasis on high academic standards, faith based values and strong discipline. Our fundraising efforts are more important than ever in light of the lingering economic downturn. As you evaluate the organizations you support, we ask you to remember St. Bruno School. Whether you are a graduate of St. Bruno School, a parent or grandparent of past or present students, or a member of our community who values the opportunities St. Bruno School offers children in the community, we ask you to support our fundraising efforts. St. Bruno School is currently planning our fundraiser, St. Bruno Fiesta! It will take place in our school gym on Saturday, September 18, 2010 to commemorate the 200 th Anniversary of Mexican Independence. All profits will be used to benefit the school. We are looking to our parents, parishioners, friends and community businesses to show their support of Saint Bruno School by participating in our ad book. It is a great way to show your support for Catholic education and a sensational advertisement that will be seen by hundreds of people who will be attending our event. Full-page ads (5x8) are $100.00. Half page ads (5x4) are $50.00. Quarter page ads (5x2) are $25.00 and one-line ads are available for $10.00. This year premium Full Page ads will be available for $250.00. These pages are the two center pages, the last page, and the inside or outside back cover of the book. Premium pages will be sold on a first come first serve basis. Be sure to let us know how you want your ad to read. Individuals may send their check and ad to school or drop it in the collection basket at church clearly marked Fiesta. Businesses may also send their check and ad to school or give it to one of our school representatives that will be visiting you. All ads and payments must be received by Friday, September 3, 2010. On behalf of our school children, we thank you for your support. Sincerely, Katrina McDermott Principal
Reflections from Fr. Emil. THE PRESENCE OF CHRIST BY THE POWER OF HIS WORD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us, is present in many ways to his Church; in his word, in his Church's prayer, where two or three are gathered in my name, in the poor,, the sick, and the imprisoned, in the sacraments of which he is the author, in the sacrifice of the Mass, and in the person of the minister. But he is present, most especially in the Eucharistic species. The mode of Christ's presence under the Eucharistic, species is unique. It raises the Eucharist above all the sacraments as the perfection of the spiritual life and the end to which all the sacraments tend. In the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really and substantially contained. This presence is called real - by which is not intended to excluded the other types of presence as if they could not be real too, but because it is presence in the fullest sense; that is to say, it is a substantial presence by which Christ, God and man, makes himself wholly and entirely present. Fr. Stawia to Eucharystię ponad wszystkimi sakramentami i czyni z niej jakby doskonałość życia duchowego i cel, do którego zmierzają wszystkie sakramenty. W najświętszym Sakramencie Eucharystii są zawarte prawdziwie, rzeczywiście i substancjonalnie Ciało i Krew wraz z duszą i Bóstwem Pana naszego Jezusa Chrystusa, a więc cały Chrystus. Padre Emilio THE COST OF ATTENDING CHURCH...A little child in church watched as the ushers passed the offering plate. When they neared the pew where he sat, the youngster piped up so that everyone could hear. 'Don't pay for me Daddy. I'm under five.'
