THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS What are The Stations Of The Cross? The Stations Of The Cross are a popular Catholic devotion which commemorates the Passion and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What do the fourteen stations mean? Each of the fourteen stations stands for an event which occurred during Jesus' Passion and Death at Calvary on Good Friday. A person making the Stations of The Cross is to meditate about each event depicted at each station, and pray. Where does one make the Stations Of The Cross? At many Catholic Churches and Chapels, mounted along the sides of the interior walls are fourteen plaques which depicts each Station Of The Cross. A person making the Stations will go to each station and pray and meditate about that particular event which Jesus went through in His Passion and death. Sadly, many Churches today have removed their Stations Of The Cross, for reasons which are unknown to me. Can The Stations Be Done Anywhere? Are special prayers to be recited? Yes, the Stations Of The Cross can be done anywhere, with a group of people, alone, and mentally. There are no specific prayers that are to be said. There are many different prayers written by various people throughout the centuries which are beautiful and profound. You can make your own personal prayer which you recite when you meditate about each station. When did the devotion to the Stations Of The Cross begin? The Stations were originally performed many centuries ago by Christian pilgrims who actually visited the Holy Land, and went to the sites of Jesus' Passion. There are records of similar forms of this devotion which date back to the 400s. On Wednesday we began the season of Lent which is our preparation for the Easter celebration of Jesus resurrection. It is a time in imitation of Jesus spending forty days in the desert. Jesus fasted in the desert, and overcame the devil s temptations. Jesus never sinned but in the desert he was tempted, and during these forty days of Lent we remember Jesus in the desert as we try to overcome temptation in our lives and to overcome sinfulness. There is practically no hiding place or shelter in the desert and the difficulties of the desert make whatever is inside a person come to the surface. The desert tests and shows up a person as he/she is. Lent is an invitation to us to take the courageous step of going into the desert and not hiding from what lies hidden deep within us. Lent is a time to put our souls before a mirror and see ourselves as we really are. Lent is an invitation to allow our sin and darkness and wounds come to the surface so that we can deal with them and allow them to be healed by the grace of Jesus. During these forty days of Lent, we do not hide from our sinfulness or prevent God speaking to us or healing us during this Lent. It is only when we admit something that we can deal with it. The first stage in overcoming anything is to admit the problem. If we remain in denial we miss out on the grace of God to heal us and renew us and make us whole. During Lent we say no to the devil s temptations to continue committing sin, and instead we trust in our heavenly Father like Jesus in the desert. The words of Jesus can be our words this Lent, Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matt 4:4) Lent is not only about helping others, about doing something, it is also very much about the type of person we are.

Przesuwamy zegarki o godzinę do przodu. Uzdrawiające rekolekcje w Amerykańskiej Częstochowie dla osób cierpiących w wyniku doświadczeń aborcji. Rekolekcje prowadzone są w języku polskim. Wierni, którzy ukończyli czternasty rok życia, są zobowiązani do zachowania w ciągu całego życia wstrzemięźliwości od pokarmów mięsnych w następujące dni: a) we wszystkie piątki Wielkiego Postu, b) w Środę Popielcową. Wstrzemięźliwość od pokarmów mięsnych nie obowiązuje, jeżeli zgodnie z przepisami liturgicznymi, w piątek przypada uroczystość. 2. Wierni, którzy ukończyli 18. rok życia, aż do rozpoczęcia 60. roku życia, oprócz wstrzemięźliwości od pokarmów mięsnych są zobowiązani do zachowania postu ścisłego w następujące dni: a) w Środę Popielcową, b) w Wielki Piątek. Post ścisły pozwala na jednorazowy posiłek do syta oraz na dwa skromne posiłki w ciągu dnia. 3. Wierni, którzy nie mają możliwości wyboru pokarmów i muszą spożywać to, co zostanie im podane, mogą korzystać z dyspensy od obowiązku wstrzymania się od potraw mięsnych w piątki Wielkiego Postu. Taka dyspensa nie istnieje w Środę Popielcową i Wielki Piątek. Niemożliwość zachowania wstrzemięźliwości od pokarmów mięsnych w piątek zakłada jednak podjęcie innych form pokuty, takich jak: modlitwa, jałmużna, uczynki pobożności i miłości, wierniejsze spełnianie obowiązków.
