Our sincere THANK YOU to all who have contributed to our Organ Fund in the last month. Per my earlier announcements, we already raised $159,000 need to cover the cost of the new organ. The amount that is being collected right now will be applied towards the funds already spent to prepare the choir area upstairs for the installation of the new organ as well as for the special plaque listing the names of all donors contributors in commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the dedication of our Church. Serdecznie dziękujemy tym wszystkim, którzy ostanio złożyli ofiary na Fundusz na nowe organy. Tak jak wcześniej informowałem mamy zebraną sumę na pokrycie kosztów wykonania ogranów piszczałkowych $159,000. As a source of hope and inspiration it is our intention to publish those names in print who have done outstanding work in the course of the week to plant a rose so to speak along the way as we carry the cross in the glory of the victory He won. Page Six Thirteenth Ordinary Sunday June 28, 2009 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time FAITH AND TRUST, NOT FEAR Perhaps his statement to the grieving father when they learn of the child s death is the crux of the whole question of life and death. Turning to the man and ignoring those who would have him leave because the girl had died, Jesus said, Do not be afraid; just have faith (Mark 5:36). Faith flies in the face of the evidence. The child was dead, but her father s faith in Jesus saved her. The bleeding woman had exhausted all possible cures, but her faith in Jesus set her free. God does not will our deaths either. Whatever holds us in deadly bondage is not of God. How often are we paralyzed by fear? Is it possible we can truly be set free by simply turning to Jesus with faith and trust? The author of the book of Wisdom assures us that God did not make death and does not rejoice in the death of any living thing. We are reminded that we have been made in God s image, formed to be imperishable. In the face of all the death, illness, and destruction in the world, what are we to make of this claim? Clearly, it is our spirits that are called to eternal life. However, given the two stories in today s Gospel passage from Mark, we have evidence that indeed, God does not rejoice in the death of our bodies. When confronted with a hemorrhaging woman and the frightened father of a dying little girl, Jesus moves and speaks with confidence. Be free! he commands the long suffering woman. Attention All Veterans On Friday evening, July 3, at 6:00pm, the Notre Dame College Prep community will celebrate its annual Mass in Honor of American Military Veterans. We will gather at Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto for the first outdoor Mass at our new shrine. All veterans, families and friends are invited! Students will once again place 5,000 American flags in our front lawns on Sunday, June 28. Each flag will represent an American military life lost in Iraq or Afghanistan. Notre Dame College Prep is at 7655 West Dempster Street in Niles. Veterans are encouraged to wear some memento of their time in service, such as insignia, medals, patches, or even the old uniform. Seating is arranged by branch of service and service flags as well as Notre Dame student ushers help assist and direct attendees. The all services color guard will be coordinated by the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion: Chicago. This event features our Notre Dame Resurrection Band. Alumni band members, particularly RJO members, are most welcome to join, as are grade school band members and anyone else who plays an instrument. A musical salute to the services follows Mass, and members of each branch of service stand to applause as their theme song is played. There will be one rehearsal. We know that each patriotic holiday must bring some pain to the families of those who gave their last full measure. Notre Dame remembers and deeply appreciates all her ten sons' ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom. We would like to honor the memory of our ten alumni who lost their lives in Vietnam. We would most appreciate the presence of their families at our gathering. They will be seated in places of honor and offered our recognition and gratitude. June 28, 2009 Thirteenth Ordinary Sunday Page Twelve Zatrzymasz się wreszcie?!? Działo się to dawno a może nie dawno, nie jest ot istotne. Pewien Bogaty Człowiek, postanowił odebrać sobie życie, ponieważ stwierdził, że już dłużej nie może tak szybko żyć. Wiecznie tylko praca, praca, praca w domu stał się Gościem. Ale z drugiej strony nie potrafił się z tej matni wyzwolić. Ten stan spowodował, że nie widział innej możliwości jak tylko wysiąść z tego pociągu, jakim jest życie. Jak postanowił tak też szukał okazji do zrealizowania swego pomysłu. Tak się jednak złożyło, że spotkał swego Znajomego z wojska. Bardzo się ucieszył na to spotkanie. W czasie rozmowy nasz Bohater zwierzył się ze swego postanowienia. Wtedy to Znajomy z wojska zaprosił Go do siebie. Z początkowymi oporami, ale jednak nasz Bogaty Człowiek zdecydował się z Znajomym udać do jego domu. Było dla Niego wielkim zaskoczeniem, że ów Znajomy to Zakonnik a Domem jego jest Klasztor. Wtedy przypomniał sobie, że już dawno nie był w Kościele, już dawno się nie modli bo zawsze mówił nie mam czasu. Zakonnik zaprowadził Bogatego Człowieka do celi powiedział mu, że może być tu tak długo jak zechce i aby swe postanowienie jeszcze raz przemyślał. Bogaty Człowiek spytał się czy może wykonać jeszcze parę telefonów do swoich firm na co Zakonnik mu odparł: Przecież chcesz się zabić to po co się jeszcze martwisz o firmę zostaw to. I odszedł. Bogaty Człowiek usiadł na łóżku w swojej celi i zaczął wzrokiem wodzić po skromnym wystroju. I rozmyślał. Rozmyślał o życiu, o czasie, o Rodzinie, o Przyjaciołach, o Śmierci, o Bogu, o Radości, o Szczęściu, o Miłości, o Minęły cztery tygodnie Ubogi Człowiek, ale Radosny przychodzi do Zakonnika i mówi Mu: dziękuję Ci, żeś mnie tu przyprowadził to był piękny czas. Czas zatrzymania, czas, w którym odkryłem, że jestem Człowiekiem ale, że nie zawsze potrafiłem zachować się jak Człowiek. Był to czas, który pozwolił mi zrozumieć, że nie wszystko zależy ode mnie i nie ja o wszystkim decyduję. Czas, w który zrozumiałem, że jedno, o co w życiu chodzi to MIŁOŚĆ. A ja o tym zapomniałem i to zapomnienie kosztowałoby mnie Wieczne Zapomnienie. A czy Ty nie myślisz się zatrzymać i na nowo zobaczyć, że najważniejsza jest MIŁOŚĆ. BÓG JEST MIŁOŚCIĄ! Autor nieznany Maski Pewnego pięknego dnia Piękno i Brzydota spotkały się na plaży. Postanowiły się wykąpać. Zdjęły ubrania i zaczęły się pluskać w morskiej wodzie. Po chwili Brzydota wróciła na brzeg, włożyła na siebie ubranie Piękna i poszła swoją drogą. W chwilę potem także Piękno wyszło z wody. Nie znalazło swoich ubrań, a ponieważ wstydziło się wracać nago włożyło ubranie Brzydoty. I poszło swoją drogą. Również i dzisiaj ludzie często zamieniają się rolami i udają kogoś innego. Jednak jeśli ktoś raz ujrzał oblicze Piękna, rozpozna je zawsze bez względu na ubranie. Jeżeli też ktoś widział twarz Brzydoty, żadne ubranie nie skryje jej przez jego wzrokiem. K. Gibran

Reynolds (john@jrwrites.com) Once a year in June, the Chicago Association of Holy Name Societies (CAHNS) holds its Spiritual Assembly Mass and Procession of Banners. I ve attended several of these, and, with hundreds of men gathering to express their love of Christ s name first in the community and then in church before enjoying each other s company over a good meal, it s a pretty cool event. Hundreds of men gathering to express their love of Christ s name first in the community and then in church before enjoying each other s company over a good meal, however, is no small undertaking. But when I suggested to some of the guys in the CAHNS group several years ago that my home parish, St. Constance, might like to host the affair someday, I knew it would be a long time before we d ever have the opportunity. CAHNS likes to spread the wealth around for one thing, preferring to alternate the Mass location between a north side church and a south side church, and they go pretty far out on their calendar. So way back then, there were no firm dates to even be considered. Still, I figured that if and when we were chosen to host the multicolored procession of HNS Banners, the Spiritual Assembly Mass itself, and the fellowship and feasting that always follows, we d all just rally together and pull it off somehow. And we did, getting the CAHNS nod nearly two years ago and bringing it all home on a recent Friday night. The weather was perfect. Five priests con celebrated the Mass and our main celebrant, Fr. Frank Rocky Hoffman of Relevant Radio fame, gave a knock out homily on the Gospel passage of the day, which, ironically or, perhaps strategically was the reading of Christ s teaching about adultery. Fr. Rocky said that while it s an uncomfortable reading, it speaks to us of God s great mercy. He said it speaks to us, too, of hope. And Fr. Rocky said he could hear hope in the voices of hundreds of men singing in praise of Christ s name. In truth, hearing the men s voices is one of my favorite things about the assembly, and once again, this proved inspiring. The evening in its entirety was a lot of work, as was all the effort behind it. The ad book. The procession. The liturgy. The food. This stuff doesn t just happen. Representatives from the previous host parishes gave us their continual guidance. The St. Constance Woman s Club served the food. The local Boy Scouts directed traffic. Our school students waited tables. The Polish Band, the Knights of Columbus, the Knights of Peter Claver, the Blue Army of Fatima, and the priests and deacons all made them themselves available, and in the end, as I see it, every individual who in any way contributed to the evening s success praised the Holy Name of Jesus in the process. At one point, I overheard Wally one of our Holy Name Society members and our main cook for the night say to Paul, our President, This is the day the Lord has made, or something like that. I d say exactly like that, Wally. I d say exactly like that.
