YOUTH MINISTRY The Youth Mass is at 9:30 AM on Sundays and Get-A-Grip, grades 7-12, meets for Liturgy of the Word during the Mass on the first Sunday of the month. CHOIR We are fortunate enough to have a Parish Choir that has a full multi-lingual repertoire, as well as a Junior Choir. The Choir rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and the Junior Choir on Thursday at 6:30 PM. Instrumentalists are welcomed, either to play solo or with our choir. A parish orchestra made up of children and adults rehearses and performs several times during the year. For more information, or to volunteer, please call John or Martha Nowik after Mass or at the Parish Office. PARISH REGISTRATION New parishioners are most welcome and are encouraged to call the parish office and make an appointment to register. TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Genesis 2:18-24 God created many different animals in an attempt to make a suitable partner for the first man. Then he took a rib from the man as he slept and built it up into a woman. At last God had created someone who equaled the man, as she was bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh and they proved to be suitable partners for each other. Second Reading: Hebrews 2:9-11 This passage describes how Jesus will become perfect through his suffering. It also reminds us that Jesus Father is our Father as well, making him unashamed to call us his brothers and sisters. Gospel: Mark 10:2-16 The people began to ask Jesus if it was acceptable for a man to divorce his wife. Jesus tells them that two people who have been joined together by God should not be separated. People began bringing their children to Jesus, but the disciples tried to send them away. Jesus grew angry and told his disciples to allow the children to come to him.

October 4, 2015..27th Sunday in Ordinary Time 04 października, 2015..27 Niedziela zwykła w ciagu Roku Liturgicznego WORD RELIGIOUS EDUCATION The students have easily adjusted to sharing our space with the College Achieve Charter School. Things have been running smoothly and each of the classes are growing in their faith. Chapel and Liturgy of the Word has begun and the response is certainly less than what it should be. I have no idea where some of our families are, but they are not here in church and the children lose their valuable religious education time. Disappointing. Confirmation preparation will be looking to ensure that our students understand and participate in service in their lives. How we treat others is truly a mark of the level of maturity we have attained. Pre-K and K classes begin this Wednesday At 6:30 PM the Pre-K and K children will come together for the beginning of their program. The children begin to develop their relationship with Scripture and Faith at their specific level. Our children have always enjoyed this program and have gotten excited about learning about Jesus and God ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS Rosary Society Communion Breakfast On this Sunday, October 4 th following the 9:30 Mass the Rosary Society will hold their Communion Breakfast at Giovanna s Restaurant on South Ave. Tickets will be on sale the weekend of September 19 th and 20 th and 26 th and 27 th.(the cost is $25) The keynote speaker will be Mrs. Susan Delaney-Choma and she will offer Reflections on Grace. MORNING OF REFLECTION FOR WOMEN SAVE THE DATE On Saturday, November 7 th from 9 AM to 12:30 PM there will be a presentation by Colleen Kelly Rayner. Colleen is a dynamic speaker who strives to create an experience that allows Jesus to touch the hearts of each person in the room through her words. Colleen has a gift to open up the faith and share it with you in such a real way that you leave her little retreat on fire for God. Come and be part of this experience. The morning includes coffee and as we begin and lunch; the cost for the morning will be $15. Registration will be available as the date draws near. OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY MAKERS On Wednesday, October 7th at 6:30PM the group will meet in the Parish Center for a special Rosary Project that will be held that evening, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Special Rosaries will be made with the students in Religious Education. If you would like to volunteer to help on October 7 th, contact Linda Mayers. ST. ANNE SOCIETY The St. Anne Society will hold a social for members on Tuesday evening, October 20 th at Giovanna s Restaurant. Members who would like to attend can get more information by contacting Mrs. Mayers at the Parish Offoce. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY The Prayer Shawl Ministry will be making things in pink for the traditional shower for expectant mothers. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 28th at 10:30AM in the Parish Center. Feel free to come and join. BLOOD DRIVE SCHEDULED The Ruth and Bill Sullivan Memorial Blood Drive will be on Monday, October 12 th from 3:30 8PM, in the school. Please consider becoming a blood donor this year. Volunteers on the day of the blood drive are also needed. If you wish to become a blood donor or a volunteer for any of the needed services, you will be able to sign up as the time draws nearer. WORSHIP THE CHOIR WHY NOT BECOME A MEMBER Rehearsals will be starting for both Junior (grades 3 8) and Adult Choirs. We are especially in need of more basses! Our fledgling Youth Schola of teenagers will also be rehearsing. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on a regular basis on Saturdays at 5 PM and on Sunday mornings after the 8, 9:30, and 11 o clock Masses as well as after weekday Masses simply by requesting the celebration of the Sacrament. PRAY THE ROSARY IN OCTOBER Everyone is welcome to join the Rosary Pilgrimage in the Church on Tuesday, October 6 th when we gather as a community to pray the Rosary at 7PM. On October 13 th and 20 th the Rosary will be prayed together at 1PM and on the 27 th we will conclude the Month of the Rosary at 7PM. Remember! The Rosary is Prayed every morning at 8:30 AM before the 9 AM Mass. Why not start the morning with Mary?

The Group has decided to repeat their trip to the Hunterdon Playhouse for their Christmas Spectacular! Reservations have been made for 49 places. On Monday, November 23, the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse will feature A Playhouse Christmas which will be different from last year but equally magnificent and entertaining. The trip includes transportation and a luncheon with all the trimmings, something everyone raved about! The cost will be kept to the same as it was, $75. A deposit of $25 is due by September 18 th and the balance paid by November 6 th. So, if you would like to experience this great show, make your reservations by calling the parish office. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Regular Monthly Meeting will be on Tuesday evening, October 13 th at 8 PM in the Parish Center. Regular meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month. CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP The Caregiver s Support Group is a group for those caring for elderly or chronically ill loved ones and they meet at St. Helen s in Westfield on the first non-holiday Monday of each month at 7:30PM. EMMAUS BOOK CLUB The Book Club met and had a great discussion and are planning another book to read and set a date for the next gathering. BLESSING OF ANIMALS For the 14 th year there will be the Blessing of Animals in Leland Ave. Park on Sunday, October 4 th from 1:30 3 PM. The Friends of Sleepy Hollow are again sponsoring the event and Fr. Frank should be there! You are reminded that all animals should be restrained or caged (along with unruly children and adults ). SAINT BARTHOLOMEW ACADEMY BEGINS CLASSES The Academy s eighth graders are beginning to look toward the end of their middle school experience and move on to high school. They will be participating in the Co-Operative Admission Exam on November 6 th for those looking to attend Catholic High School. They have also had the luxury of having a day of recollection hosted by Union Catholic High School and they were afforded the ability to explore their relationship with God and the greater community. SERVICE STEWARDSHIP So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was the name. The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations. FINANCE Faith Giving for St. Bernard and St. Stanislaus 136 envelopes were used on Sunday and contained $4,312 which means 79% of the collection came from the envelopes. There are 485 registered families who receive envelopes which means 349 families did not use envelopes. Many people were bringing their children to Jesus, and his disciples tried to stop them. Jesus became indignant and said, Let the children come to me for to such belongs the kingdom of God. What did he mean? He said, Whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it. Then he took the children in his arms and blessed them. What are we to make of this? If something belongs to you, you own it. An automobile belongs to you because you paid the purchase price and hold the title to it. A piece of real estate belongs to you. Your name is on the deed. It is understandable that we would think this way, given our culture s economic mind-set. But belongs has another meaning, one that is more profound. There is a sense in which we can technically own something that does not really belong to us. Conversely, something can belong to us that we do not own, and perhaps never will. Let s say you own a book containing the major plays of Shakespeare. You went to the book store and bought it. You have the sales receipt. But you may have never read those plays. You do not know the stories they tell. The characters in the plays are strangers to you. You own the book, but in the deepest and profoundest sense it does not belong to you. Consider another possibility. You do not own a volume of Shakespeare s plays, but you have gone to the library and borrowed one - - not just once, but many times. You have not only read the plays you have studied them. You have memorized many of the lines. You know the characters as if they were your best friends. You never owned the book, but in the most profound sense it belongs to you. In this sense Jesus says the kingdom of God belongs to children. The kingdom of God belongs to anyone who has maintained, or recovered, the wonderful openness of childhood. A universal characteristic of a child is a curious mind and an open heart. Children are eager and, therefore, able to learn. They absorb their environment like sponges. Somewhere along the path to adulthood, however, this child-like trait may be lost. But God s kingdom belongs to children. In the love of God, Fr. Frank
