This week, we continue our survey of some of the changes in the words and phrases that we will pray. In the Eucharistic Prayer, there are new translations of the people s parts at two points: the dialogue that begins the prayer, and the acclamations that we sing after the elevations of bread and chalice. The dialogue (called the Preface Dialogue) echoes those from the beginning of Mass and before the Gospel: The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Our final response, after the priest says, Let us give thanks to the Lord our God, will be It is right and just. In a way, this response completes the priest s statement. Two of the new Memorial Acclamation translations are quite similar to ones we have been using. The third option, Save us, Savior of the world, / for by your Cross and Resurrection / you have set us free, is a new rendering of the acclamation Lord, by your cross and resurrection... From the Pastor s Desk You probably know that at the end of next month we will have a revised English missal. To help prepare for this change, I want to say something about the new translation. - in light of today's Gospel. To lead into the topic, I start with a joke: Once a priest - at the beginning of Mass - was having trouble with the church sound system. He started tapping the microphone and muttered, "There's something wrong with this microphone." The congregation dutifully responded, "And also with you!".. When we inaugurate the new English translation, instead of saying, "And also with you," the congregation will respond, "And with your Spirit.".. Why the change? There are a number of reasons. First and most important: "And with your spirit" more exactly translates the Latin, "Et cum spiritu tuo." The Latin itself goes back to the Hebrew: "Spirit" (ruah in Hebrew) represents the entire person in his unseen dimension - his power to relate to God and to others. So the congregation is wishing that Lord be with the celebrant's spirit - his deepest being. To lead the people in worshipping God, the celebrant needs the Lord deeply present inside him. For that reason you will say to me, "And with your spirit.".. This Sunday I would like to address the words we hear in the central part of the Mass - the consecration of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus. Instead of saying Jesus' Blood is shed "for all" the priest will say "for many.".. There are important reasons for this change. First, like "and with your spirit," the words "for many" more accurately translate the Latin text. The Latin says, "pro multis." You can easily recognize that "multis" contains the root of English words such as "multiply," "multitude" and "multiple." Those words imply a big number, but do not necessarily mean "all." Christ of course did die for all, but redemption is not mechanical or automatic. Jesus offers sufficient grace to all. We, however, have to open ourselves to that grace. In the Bible it clearly states that Jesus offers his life "for many." For example, in Mark 14:24, Jesus says, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many." Yes, Jesus died for all, but not all want his blood upon them. (copy from internet) Fr. Ale Jezus mówi: jeden jest Bóg. Tak bardzo przewyższa On cesarza, że nawet nie istnieje płaszczyzna, na której można by ich porównać. Dajcie więc cesarzowi tylko to, co mu się rzeczywiście należy, nie dawajcie mu jednak tego, co należy się tylko Bogu. Bądźcie posłuszni jedynie Bogu, a nie takim czy innym ludziom, ideologiom albo systemom społecznym. Możemy być pewni, że gdyby władcy tego świata i ci, którzy okazują im nieraz ślepe posłuszeństwo, postawili Boga ponad państwem, polityką i ideologią, gdyby oddali Bogu należną cześć i uszanowali godność człowieka, który został przecież stworzony na Boży obraz i podobieństwo, świat uniknąłby niejednej wojny i wielu nieszczęść.. My, chrześcijanie, mamy obowiązek protestować, kiedy władza świecka próbuje zająć miejsce Boga. Po Jego stronie mamy stanąć. Jemu mamy oddać to, co do Niego należy: całe nasze serce, całą naszą duszę, wszystkie nasze siły. Ks. Antoni En el evangelio Jesus dice "Den, pues, al Cesar lo que es del Cesar, y a Dios lo que es de Dios." Eran palabras dificiles en el dia de Jesus y siguen retandonos.. En el tiempo de Jesus, el gobierno dominaba la religion. El Emperador Romano era el "Pontifex Maximus" - el sacerdote maximo. En Israel el sacerdocio era servil al estado. Jesus, al contrario, era su propio hombre. Cuando le preguntaba sobre el tributo al Cesar, Jesus no tenia ni una monedita en su bolsillo. Tenia que pedirles una moneda. Notando el imagin de Cesar, les dijo, "Den, pues, al Cesar lo que es del Cesar, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.".. Este dicho transformo la sociedad. Despues de la caida del Emperio Romano, habia tension entre la iglesia y elestado. Los reyes constantemente trataban de dominar la Iglesia - por ejemplo, asignando a los obispos. La Iglesia naturalmente resistio. Un momento crucial llego en 1215 cuando el arzobispo de Cantorbery (Esteban Langton) reunio a nobles ingleses para insistir que el rey respete unos derechos basicos. Hicieron un documento llamado "La Gran Carta." Es mas reconocida por su nombre Latin - Magna Carta. Como todo niño de escuela sabe, la Magna Carta lanzo el experimento democratico en Inglaterra - un movimiento que se difundio a los Estados Unidos y otros paises. Si uno lee la Magna Carta, se nota que empieza con una afirmacion de la autonomia legitima de la Iglesia Den, pues, al Cesar lo que es del Cesar, y a Dios lo que es de Dios. Si, debemos obedecer las leyes justas de nuestro pais. Al mismo tiempo hay que dar a Dios lo que pertenece a el. Y que pertenece a Dios? THE CHURCH - PEOPLE OF GOD The People of God is marked by characteristics that clearly distinguish it from all other religious, ethnic, political, or cultural groups found in history. It is the People of God. God is not the property of any one people. But he acquired a people for himself from those who previously were not a people a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. One becomes a member of this people not by a physical birth, but by being born anew, a birth of water and the Spirit, that is by faith in Christ, and Baptism. This People has for its Head Jesus the Christ the anointed, the Messiah. Because the same anointing, the Holy Spirit, flows from the head into the body, this is the messianic people. The status of this people is that of the dignity and freedom of the sons of God, in whose hearts the Holy Spirit dwells as in a temple. Its law is the new commandment to love as Christ loved us. This is the new law of the Holy Spirit. Its mission is to be salt of the earth and light of the world. This people is a most sure seed of unity, hope, and salvation for the whole human race. Its destiny, finally, is the Kingdom of God which has been begun by God himself on earth and which must be further extended until it has been brought to perfection by him at the end of time. Fr. Emil KOŚCIÓŁ - LUD BOŻY W kazdym czasie i w każdym narodzie miły jest Bogu, ktokolwiek się Go lęka i postępuje sprawiedliwie, podobało się jednak Bogu uświęcać i zbawiać ludzi nie pojedynczo, z wykluczeniem wszelkiej wzajemnej między nimi więzi, lecz uczynić z nich lud, który by Go poznawał w prawdzie i zbożnie Mu służył. Przeto wybrał sobie Bóg na lud naród izraelski, z którym zawarł przymierze i które stopniowo pouczał. Wszystko to jednak wydarzyło się jako przygotowanie i jako typ owego przymierza nowego i doskonałego, które miało być zawarte w Chrystusie. Chrystus ustanowił to nowe Przymierze, to znaczy Nowy Testament, w swojej krwi, powołujac spośród Żydów i pogan lud, który nie wedle ciała, lecz dzięki Duchowi zróść się miał w jedno. Lud Boży posiada cechy charakterystyczne, które zdecydowanie odróżniają go od ugrupowań religijnych, etnicznych, politycznych czy kulturowych w historii. Jest on Ludem Bożym. Bóg nie jest własnością żadnego narodu. To On nabył dla siebie lud tych, którzy kiedyś nie byli ludem, wybrane plemię, królewskie kapłaństwo, naród święty. Członkiem tego Ludu Bożego staje się człowiek nie przez narodzenie fizyczne, ale przez narodzenie z wysoka, z wody i Ducha, to znaczy przez wiarę w Chrystusa i chrzest. Zwierzchnikiem tego Ludu jest Jezus Chrystus, namaszczony Mesjasz, ponieważ to samo namaszczenie, czyli Duch Święty, spływa z głowy na Ciało, dlatego jest on Ludem Mesjańskim. Udziałem tego Ludu jest godność i wolność synów Bożych, w których sercach Duch Święty mieszka jak w świątyni. Jego prawem jest nowe przykazanie miłości, tak jak umiłował nas sam Jezus Chrystus. Jest to nowe prawo Ducha Świętego. Jest posłany, aby być solą ziemi i światłem świata. Stanowi dla całego rodzaju ludzkiego potężny zalążek jedności, nadziei i zbawienia. Ks. Emil LA IGLESIA, PUEBLO DE DIOS El Pueblo de Dios tiene caracteristicas que le distinguen claramente de todos los grupos religiosos, etnicos, politicos o culturales de la historia. Es el Pueblo de Dios. Dios no pertence en propiedad a ningun pueblo. Pero El ha adquirido para si un pueblo de aquellos que antes no eran un pueblo, una raza elegida, un sacerdocio real, una nacion santa. Se llega a ser miembro de este cuerpo no por el nacimiento ficisco, sino por el nacimiento de arriba, del aqua y del Espiritu, es decir, por la fe en Cristo y el Bautismo. Este Pueblo tiene por jefe {cabeza} a Jesus el Cristo {Ungido, Mesias} porque la misma Uncion, el Espiritu Santo fluye desde la Cabeza al Cabeza al Cuerpo, es el Pueblo mesianico. La identidad de este Pueblo, es la dignidad y la libertad de los hijos de Dios en cuyos corazones habita el Espiritu Santo como en un templo. Su ley, es el mandamiento nuevo, amar como el mismo Cristo nos amo. Esta es la ley nueva del Espiritu Santo. Su mision es ser la sal de la tierra y la luz del mundo. Es un germen muy seguro de unidad, de esperanza y de salvacion para todo el genero humano. The past couple of weeks have been filled with excitement in 4 th grade. We have started reading our first novel The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleishman. The 4 th grade, along with our PreK 4 buddies, have spent the past couple of weeks learning about Columbia. We learned a traditional dance, how the Columbian flag was created along with many other things. We had a great time performing it during our traditional St. Bruno Hispanic Heritage presentations. All of the other classes did a great job as well! Grace Sturtz (4 th Grade) Ostatnie kilka tygodni były nadzwyczajne dla klasy czwartej.. Zaczęliśmy czytać naszą pierwszą opowieść pt "Wycierający chłopiec". napisaną przez Sid Fleishman. Czwarta klasa spędziła kilka tygodni poznając kraj Kolumbii. Uczyliśmy się tradycyjnych tańców, w jaki sposób flaga Kolumbijska została skomponowana i różnych innych ciekawych rzeczy. Mieliśmy wspaniały czas w Szkole św. Brunona przedstawiając dorobek kultury Hiszpańskiej. Inne klasy również dokonały wiele w tym względzie. Grace Sturtz (klasa czwarta) El último par de semanas han estado llenos de emoción los del 4 º grado. Hemos empezado a leer nuestra primera novela, The Whipping Boy por Sid Fleishman. El 4 º grado, junto con nuestros compańeros de Pre-Kinder 4 han pasado el último par de semanas aprendiendo acerca de Columbia. Nos enteramos de una danza tradicional, como la bandera Colombiana fue creada, junto con muchas otras cosas. Nos lo pasamos muy bien que realizandolo durante las tradicionales presentaciones de San Bruno del Patrimonio Hispano. Todas las demas clases hicieron un gran trabajo también!
