Macejak Communal Reconciliation Liturgy On Tuesday of Holy Week, April 6th, our parish will celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation in a communal liturgy appropriate to the season of Lent. The celebration will begin at 7:00 PM in the Church. We especially hope all those who have been prevented by fear from coming to confession, those away from the sacraments for a long time, those who have felt alienated from the Church or the parish, will participate in this celebration of God s loving mercy. All will be asked to acknowledge their sinfulness before God and the gathered community, to seek mercy, and to receive the Church s absolution. Please pray that through this celebration many will be brought home, released from the burden of sin and guilt, and begin healing in Christ. There are still some Masses available in April for your intentions. If you wish to have your loved ones remembered at Mass, please come to the rectory during regular business hours and one of the parish secretaries will be happy to assist you.
April 4, 2004 Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion Page Three Holy Thursday On Holy Thursday evening, St. Ferdinand Church will remain open until midnight. Be sure to join us for the liturgy of our Lord s Last Supper, and following the liturgy, to spend a moment or two in silent prayer before the Altar of Repose. Scripture Study Live joyfully the Easter season and give yourself an opportunity to grow spiritually by taking advantage of this Adult Education offering... St. Ferdinand Parish will offer a 6-week Scripture Study program beginning April 19th at 7:00 PM. The group will meet in the convent, 5936 West Barry Avenue, in meeting room # 4 on the First Floor. The format will include study, reflection/meditation and discussion. This Scripture Study group will use Acts: The Good News of the Holy Spirit, published by Loyola Press, as their guide for the six weeks. The Acts of the Apostles recounts our earliest days of our Christian faith after the Resurrection. Please join us for this enriching opportunity for adult believers. The dates of the succeeding meetings are: April 26th, May 3rd, May 10th, May 17th and May 24th. If you have any questions about the Scripture Study program, you may call Ameriga Cesaroni at 773/725-5976. Bulletin reminder: All notices for the April 18th bulletin need to be in the rectory no later than 9 AM on Monday, April 12th. You may bring your bulletin notices to the rectory in an envelope labeled bulletin or you may fax them to 622-5903. The e-mail address for bulletin notices is bulletin@saintferdinand.org. Our Financial Support of St. Ferdinand Parish From time to time, we need to take stock of our list of those who are sick. Please, just as you call the rectory to ask that your loved ones names be placed on the sick list for our prayers, let us know when they have recovered sufficiently to be taken off. We may then say a prayer of thanksgiving for their speedy recovery. For anyone suffering a chronic illness, there is no limit to the length of time you may be on this list. We will continue to pray for you as long as you wish. As members of the parish faith community, it is our responsibility to remember both in concrete and spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with us each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in turn, remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings. We experience many blessings because of their remembering us. We will be in Church often this week and be asked to be mindful of the poor, the missions and shrines of the Holy Land, and to consider a fitting Easter offering to the Church in gratitude to God for the great gift of His Loving Son and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you for your support of the mission and ministries of your parish. Please be generous to St. Ferdinand Parish in your gift to God when we gather for the great feast of Easter. A reminder to all of our parishioners and guests that Holy Week is an extremely spiritual and busy time here at St. Ferdinand s. If the weather is nice, walking to Church for all those who live nearby is highly recommended and appreciated. Your consideration of one another in the parking lots and in only the legal public parking areas around the Church property is expected. DO NOT BLOCK alleys, garages, fire plugs, other cars, neighbor s property etc. Do not spoil your holy days with a parking ticket or confrontations with other parishioners. To be holy we must be considerate of one another. May the challenge of the Gospel events and the peace and love of Christ be with all of us this holy week. Daniel P. Costigan, Parish Business Manager

Medical care planning and assistance is provided throughout pre-natal, delivery and the post-natal periods. Clients receive social services and educational support in making a plan for the care of their baby. Options that are explored include parenting, relative placement and making a plan for adoption. Licensed temporary care is available, providing birth parents with a safe nurturing home for their infant while they finalize plans for their child's future. Their goal is to evangelize the Thankyou!Thankyou!Thankyou! A great big Thank you goes to all who donated and participated in the St. Joseph Sweet Table. The decorating committee, headed by Helena Sekula, did a superb job. Special thanks to the Ladies of St. Anne who served the table and presented each sweet with special care. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful pastries and the community spirit! $682.00 in donations will be given to our own COR (Christian Out Reach) and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Thank you for the generosity of all who were a part of this successful event. poor through a listening heart and presence, and through meeting basic human needs for food, shelter, clothing etc. Their call to service is also a call through the Catholic Church to have a preferential option for the poor in their mission and their life style. Port Ministries does not engage in social work or welfare reform. It seeks the Face of Jesus in "the distressing disguise of the poor", especially the children, who are the poorest of the poor. Support for our own parish families in need. The poor you will always have with you; but you will not always have me. (Matthew 26:11) The third area of concern that we have identified this year through our Lenten Almsgiving are parish and school families that are in need of our support. While our St. Vincent DePaul Society specifically provides ongoing help to families in our parish boundaries and COR is our outreach program to the needy of our general neighborhood, our staff members are also aware of families that are in need of some temporary assistance this Easter. Their situations vary due to illness, death and unemployment. Your Lenten Alms may provide just the support and encouragement to your fellow parishioner that is greatly needed at this time and never forgotten. Please be as generous as you are able.

April 4, 2004 Palm Sunday of the Lord s Passion Page Nine The Women s Center is a pro-life counseling organization that helps women in problem pregnancies. Because of the care and concern of our staff, volunteers, and benefactors, each year approximately 2,000 women who feel that abortion is their only choice decide in favor of life. We provide practical help, including counseling, food, clothing, baby furniture, referral services, etc. as needed. Our annual Mothers Day flower sale will be on May 8 and 9. We are seeking drivers and people to work at hubs. To help with this sale or for other volunteer opportunities, call Katie at 773-794-8807. We have an opening at our Evergreen Park office for a full time paid counselor. For information, call Judy at 773-794-3292. At the present time we are seeking donations of disposable diapers in all sizes, toiletries, paper goods, detergent, shampoo, deodorant, maternity clothing and younger women s large and extra large size clothing. Please call for our address where these can be dropped off. We also need News from the Women s Center baby cribs, crib sheets, bumper pads, infant car seats and baby swings. To help us by delivering them or to have them picked up call 773-794-1313. The Women s Center is organizing a special pro-life Twentieth Anniversary Pilgrimage to Rome from September 1 through 10, 2004. This pilgrimage will combine an opportunity to see the major sights of Rome, have a Papal Audience and also attend special events with Vatican officials. To obtain a Pilgrimage brochure containing all details and costs, call 773-794-1313. The deposit deadline for the trip is May 1, 2004. We appreciate the support that our Family Life Resource Center has received over the last nine years.
