My psychiatric experience started in 2005 at the Unit of Psychiatry in the General Hospital in Pabianice,. That practice allowed me to gain experience in basic procedures, such as: mental state examination, diagnosis, lab tests, additional tests (EEG, CT, MRI), differential diagnosis, psychiatric treatment, prevention and psychoeducation for patients and their families, as well as physical and neurological examination. I was also responsible for initiating and monitoring pharmacological treatment. I also worked at the Emergency Psychiatric Unit. That work helped me gain more experience in emergency psychiatry. During that practice I could also cooperate with other specialists, which showed me important relationship between mental and physical health. Next, I started my post-doctoral studies in psychiatry at the Clinic of Adult Psychiatry in Łódź,. During this period I gained more general experience in clinical psychiatry. I also started my research work and was responsible for lecturing psychiatry to students of medicine and nurses in. The topics of my lectures included general psychopathology, affective and psychotic disorders, treatment of cognitive disorders, autism, stress-related disorders and anxiety - 4 -
disorders. I continue my lecturing at the Academy of Health Education and Social Sciences in Łódź,, where I teach general psychiatry to nurses and social workers. In 2009 I received Ph.D. in psychiatry from the Medical University of Łódź,. The title of my Ph.D. thesis is Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin 3 (NT-3) serum blood levels, cognitive functioning and level of experienced stress in patients with schizophrenia-like psychoses untreated and treated with quetiapine. In January 2010 I started my residency in psychiatry at the Central Clinical Hospital of Medical University of Łódź,. This is a large psychiatric hospital, where I work as trainee. I also do night duties and work at the Emergency Psychiatric Unit. Moreover, in order to gain more experience I work in two psychiatric outpatient centers for adults and in a nursing home for adults with mental disabilities (mainly schizophrenia and mental retardation). I plan to complete my speciality in psychiatry in 2013. I have completed some research projects on these issues. Currently, I am focused on metabolic safety of electroconvulsive therapy, disturbances in central and peripheral homeostasis-regulating neuropeptides in subjects treated with atypical antipsychotics and relationship between bioelectrical impedance analysis, positive and negative symptoms severity and cognitive deficits in subjects with schizophrenia. In the future I also plan to set up a research lab for metabolic disturbances in schizophrenia. Books: 1.
