This variety show, featuring our high school aged troop and some special guests, will include comedy, music, singing, dancing, acrobatics, and even audience participation and a fabulous door prize! Tickets are $5 for ages 6 through adult; children 5 and under are free, and Girl Scouts in uniform will also be admitted free. Tickets will be available after all the English masses this weekend (May 15 16) and next weekend (May 22 23) look for the Girl Scout in the khaki uniform in the vestibule of the church or chapel. W dniu 15 maja o godzinie 11:00 rano 79 dzieci z Polskiej Szkoły przyjeło po raz pierwszy Pana Jezusa do swojego serca pod postacią chleba. Niech ten uroczysty dzień Komunii będzie naszą wspólną radością. Ogarnijmy wszystkie dzieci gorącą modlitwą, aby wydarzenie celebrowły z największą czcią przez całe swoje życie. Chcielibyśmy dać Wam szczegołowy opis rzeczy które udało się zebrać, by pokazać ogrom tego do czego się przyczyniliście. Sprzedaż płyt CD po każdej mszy św. przyniosła $4,078, zbiórka pieniędzy podczas niedzielnej mszy św. $3,064, Drzewka Nadzieji $ 6,378 oraz prywatne donacje $2,924. Suma zebranych datków wyniosła $16,444! Serdecznie dziękujemy za waszą hojnośc. Za część zebranych funduszy zakupiliśmy żywność do kontenera, który wysłaliśmy 10 maja. Poza zakupioną żywnością zebraliśmy dzięki Waszej życzliwości 20 palet, wsród nich znalazło się między innymi 5 ton ryżu, ponad 200 puszek zielonego groszku, 272 worki makaronu, 137 galonów oleju, 287 puszek tuńczyka, 271 pudełek bandaży, 130 pudeł pieluch dla dzieci i dorosłych, 25 wózków inwalidzkich. Szczegołowa lista darów jest bardzo długa. Wasza szczodrość i poświęcenie są niepoliczalne. Ojciec Brian jest mile zaskoczony i bardzo wdzięczny każdemu ofiarodawcy oraz tym, którzy wspierali go modlitwą. Jesteśmy szczęsliwi, że mogliśmy wysłać tak bardzo ważne i potrzebne rzeczy do naszych potrzebujących przyjaciół. Będziemy z Państwem w ciagłym kontakcie, ze swieżymi wiadomościami z Jamajki. May 16, 2010 Ascension of the Lord Page Thirteen ON PREQUELS, SEQUELS, AND THE ORDER OF THINGS 2010 by John B. Reynolds (john@jrwrites.com) I m no theologian. Nor am I a Scripture scholar. But I needn t be either to be intrigued by the readings for the Ascension of our Lord which we celebrated this past Thursday and which many parishes celebrate today as well. First the backstory: Luke wrote Acts. And what s really cool here is that the Gospel passage for the Ascension is taken from the final verses of Luke s Gospel while the first reading is taken from the initial verses of Acts. Seems backwards, since Luke wrote the Gospel first. I mean, if Luke s books were put to the silver screen, his Gospel would be the prequel and Acts would be the sequel. Yea. I didn t get the whole Star Wars thing either. The Ascension Gospel gives us the 10,000 feet high perspective (I hear this expression at work a lot when the details don t really matter). Here, Luke writes that Jesus, after reminding his disciples that they were to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins to all nations in the name of the Christ but that they were to wait in Jerusalem until they were given new power from above. Then per Luke, Jesus led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven. They did him homage and then returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God. OK. But we have to go to the first Ascension reading the initial verses from Acts to get the story from ground level. I covered Theophilus several months ago, explaining how Luke saw him as a believer seeking more knowledge of his own faith. Which means, of course, that Luke was writing directly to you and me. He writes of how the risen Christ appeared to many of the disciples; he writes of how Jesus gave them their marching orders; in great detail, he writes of how Jesus was lifted up until a cloud took him from their sight. The details then get even richer: While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way From a narrative mindset, I think this passage should have been written before the Gospel passage, not the other way around. Like I said. A prequel/sequel thing. But I ve decided that I m not going to make a big deal about the order of things after all, for if we look now at the second reading for the Seventh Sunday of Easter the reading being used by parishes around the world not celebrating the Ascension today we hear these words: I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end In the cosmic view in the Jesus view Yesterday is Today is Tomorrow. It s not that there is no order of things, I suppose. It s that all things find order in Him.
