For OPLATEK The Christmas Wafer Begun millenniums ago in Poland, Slovakia, Lithunia, this Christmas ritual continues wherever the blessed Oplatek, the Christmas Wafer is shared. The ancient ritual united past with present...heaven with earth. An empty place at table is in memory of ancestors, departed loved ones, and for the Unseen Guest, Jesus Christ. There is high hope that the Unexpected Guest will come and bless the gathering. A guest in the home is Christ in the home. 13 courses are served - the 12 Apostles 4
and our Lord. A small portion is set aside for the animals. In the first Christmas when the Christ was born, the animals were the only honored eye witnesses. REPAVING UPPER LEVEL PARKING LOT AT ST MARY OF THE LAKE Weather permitting, the upper level parking lot will be closed for two days during the week (not on the weekend), between now and Christmas to be repaved and re-lined. Please park in the lower level on those two days if you see the entrance to the upper level blocked. Nor any afternoon Mass on Christmas Day HOLY DAY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD Vigil Mass on Thursday, Dec 31: 5:30 PM Friday, January 1: 9:00 AM; 12:00 PM; 1:30 PM (Polish); 4:00 PM (Holy Family Chapel) As you plan which Christmas Mass to celebrate and as you coordinate activities with family and friends, please keep these things in mind: The 4 PM Masses will definitely be the most crowded Masses. If you are able to choose between the 4:00 and the 5:30 PM Masses, please choose the 5:30 PM. Mass for children will be at Holy Family Chapel at 4:00 PM. There are no children s liturgies at St. Mary Church. On Christmas Day, the earlier the Mass in the morning, the less crowded the church usually is. We expect seating available at the 9 and 10 AM Masses, but standing room only at the 11 AM and 12 PM Masses on Christmas day. As many of you know all too well, parking on Christmas is terribly difficult. Allow at least 15 minutes to find parking and then to get into church. If you pull into the lot five minutes before Mass, you will find the lot full and you ll wind up getting into Mass 15 minutes late. Please arrive much earlier. Please don t begrudge our brothers and sisters who only come to church on Christmas and Easter. Be glad that they are with us at least on these days. Pray for them. Be warm and welcoming toward them. If they find us regulars to be kind and friendly, they might be moved to come back more frequently. 7
LOCAL EVENTS PARISH MISSION Saint Aloysius Church, Jackson December 14 16, 7:30 PM St. Aloysius Church is a Shrine of Mercy for the Holy Year and the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal are presenting a Parish Mission on the theme of Mercy. The themes for each day will be; Monday - The Merciful Love of God, Tuesday - Mercy and Reconciliation (Friars will hear confessions after presentation) and Wednesday - Our Lady of Mercy. The last night will end with a healing procession, followed by fellowship after the Mission presentation. The Mission each night will be led by Fr. Glenn Sudano, CFR who is the Superior of the Order.
