A hefty bank account? A Caribbean cruise or African safari? A shopping mall marathon? Season tickets for the hometown team? A new car? If we already have some of these things, most likely we know they don t bring us true happiness. Fact is, they probably bring us more aggravation items to return or repair, one more object for people to argue over. Today s scriptures point us toward the things that bring us true joy. The words of all three passages conflict with our society s conviction that fortune, fame, and power are the sought-after treasures of life. God s ways are not the ways of our popular culture, after all, and today s readings help point us in the right direction. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. From the Pastors Desk The Revised Translation of the Mass (Part I)... This year there will be some changes in some of the responses and prayers of the Mass in English. This will apply only to the English translation of the Mass. Basically the purpose of these changes is to render a more faithful translation of the Latin language Mass which is the standard for the entire world. So, to prepare ourselves for this, the next From The Desk of The Pastor will be devoted to an explanation of what will occur in 2011. The information is from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops In 1970, the Latin text of the reformed Mass after the Second Vatican Council was translated into various languages for use around the world. The English edition was published in the United States in 1973. The Holy See issued a revised text in 1975. Pope John Paul II promulgated the third edition of the Missale Romanum as part of the Jubilee Year in 2000. Among other things, the third edition contains prayers for the celebration of recently canonized saints, additional prefaces for the Eucharistic Prayers, additional Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Intentions, and some updated and revised rubrics (instructions) for the celebration of the Mass. To aid the process of translation of the third edition, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments issued a fifth instruction on the translation of the Mass in 2001, which outlines the principles and rules for translation. In 2007, the Congregation for Divine Worship issued specific rules for translation in English. Fr. Padre Antonio
Reflections from Fr. Emil. I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT No one comprehends the thoughts of God expect the Spirit of God. Now God's Spirit, who reveals God, makes known to us Christ, his Word, his living Utterance, but the Spirit does not speak of himself. The Spirit who has spoken through the prophets makes us hear the Father's Words, but we do not hear the Spirit himself. We know him only in the movement by which he reveals the Word to us and disposes us to welcome him in faith. The Spirit of truth who unveils Christ to us will not speak on his own. Such properly divine self-effacement explains why the world cannot receive him, because it neither sees him nor knows him, while those who believe in Christ know the Spirit because he dwells with them. The Church, a communion living in the faith of the apostles which she transmits, is the place where we know the Holy Spirit: -in the Scriptures he inspired; -in the Tradition, to which the Church Fathers are always timely witnesses; -in the Church's Magisterium which he assists; -in the sacramental liturgy, through its words and symbols, in which the Holy Spirit puts us into communion with Christ; -in prayer, wherein he intercedes for us; Fr. Nowy objawił Syna i pozwolił dostrzec Bóstwo Ducha. Teraz Duch mieszka pośród nas i udziela nam jaśniejszego widzenia samego siebie. SCHOOL NEWS St. Bruno School Celebrates Catholic Schools Week. This year s theme Catholic Schools are A+ for America celebrates the fact that Catholic schools are an added value ("a plus") for the nation. Because of their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates, all supported by strong moral values, Catholic schools and their graduates make a definite contribution to American society. During Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate our students, faculty and staff, our parishes, and our community, both locally and nationally. We will begin the week with an all-school Mass on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 12:15p.m. This will be followed by an Early Childhood and Primary grades Open House 1:30 3:00 p.m. which will give prospective students, their families, and the community the opportunity to learn about St. Bruno and our mission to provide high-quality, values-based education. All week long our school will continue the celebration with many daily activities including, a Spelling Bee, Olympics Day, service projects- donating socks and writing letters to the seminarians, buddy meet-ups, Movie Night and much, much more. Join us for our Open House and see why St. Bruno School is a great place to learn. Katrina McDermott (Principal)
