CHOIR We are fortunate enough to have a Parish Choir that has a full multi-lingual repertoire, as well as a Junior Choir. The Choir rehearses on Thursday at 7:30 PM, and the Junior Choir on Thursday at 6:30 PM. Instrumentalists are welcomed, either to play solo or with our choir. A parish orchestra made up of children and adults rehearses and performs several times during the year. Uczestnictwo w liturgii UROCZYSTOŚĆ CHRYSTUSA KRÓLA jest naturalną drogą do spotkań z Bogiem a w liturgii słowa dla 25 listopada 2018 dzieci odbywającej się w naszej parafii mają one szczególną okazję do właściwego dla ich wieku spotkania z tajemnicą Boga. Bóg Adwentu to Bóg, który przychodzi naprzeciw naszym osamotnieniom, pustyniom, staraniom i naszej nadziei. November 25, 2018..Jesus Christ, King of the Universe...25 listopada, 2018 Urocz ystośċchrystusa Króla Wszechświata KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WORD January Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 13th after the 9AM Mass. Fellowship will accompany the meeting. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Religious Education classes resume this Wednesday for all levels at 6:30PM. The students are ready to prepare for the Season of Advent and look to prepare for the Birth of Jesus. Next week s sessions on December 5 th will be held in the Cafeteria and all students will be dropped off and pickedup from the Emerson Ave. entrance. The students will participate in the traditional Advent Fair where they will learn through information and experience a craft to prepare for Christmas. This has always been a very exciting tradition and we look forward to the Advent Fair. SACRAMENT PARENT MEETING This Wednesday, November 28 th t 6:45PM there will be a meeting of those students preparing for First Sacraments. The time of the meeting has been scheduled for the same time as the Religious Education Session to make it easier to attend. This is an information meeting and your attendance is important. Please make every effort to be there. ROSARY SOCIETY NEWS Rosary Society Mass is on Sunday, December 2nd after the 9AM Mass. ROSARY POT-LUCK DINNER On Thursday, December 6 th, the Rosary Society will host their Annual Pot-Luck Dinner for their members at 5:30 in the Parish Center. ANNE SOCIETY The St. Anne Society is already preparing for their biggest event: The Baby Shower that will be in February. A great deal of work goes into this valuable event and takes time to plan. Important needs for babies and a special gift for mothers will be gathered and given to those in need right here in the Plainfield area. ALL LECTORS The workbook manuals for the coming Church Year beginning on the first Sunday of Advent are now available in the Sacristy. Please be sure to get your copy so you can adequately prepare to proclaim the Word of God. LESSONS AND CAROLS On Saturday, December 15 th we will celebrate Lessons and Carols at the 5PM Mass. As we have done in the past, the music at Mass will reinforce the sense of the Coming of Christ and look to celebrating the Nativity with traditional music as well. We look forward to the proximate preparation for Christmas and taking a little time to pause and reflect n the meaning of the Season. The Icon of Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians which is traveling around the country and is sponsored by the Knights will arrive at our Parish next Saturday, November 17 th and remain here for one week for your admiration and devotion. There will be a formal welcoming on Sunday, November 18. Christmas Cards will be available in the lobby of the Church beginning Thanksgiving weekend. There are several varieties to choose from and the cost per box is $7 - $12. WORSHIP ADVENT IS AROUND THE CORNER Advent begins on Sunday, December 2nd. The Advent Stations take us on a tour of the old Testament. Like the traditional Lenten Stations of the Cross, these seven Advent stations or stopping points provide a way to reflect on the mystery of how God prepared the world to receive his Son at the moment of the Annunciation. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on a regular basis on Saturdays at 4:30 PM and on Sunday mornings after Masses as well as after weekday Masses simply by requesting the celebration of the Sacrament. Each tag represents a gift to be provided for someone in need. Gifts must be here by Wednesday, December 12 th, unwrapped and with the tag attached. This gives us almost 3 weeks to get the gift back here so it can get to where it belongs. Please follow through; if you take a tag, don t forget to get the gift back in time. CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP The Caregiver s Support Group will meet on Monday, December 3rd at 7:30 PM at St. Helen s Parish Center. SAINT BARTHOLOMEW ACADEMY The school community came together this past Tuesday at the Annual Thanksgiving celebration to celebrate with song and prayer. The tradition began with a prayer service organized by the Student Council and the SBA Choir. Everyone then enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the fixings, which was prepared and served by over 35 parent volunteers. The kindergarten and first grade children dressed in Pilgrim and Native American headdresses, and were helped throughout the dinner by their seventh and eighth grade prayer buddies. The children were thankful for the food they shared and prayed for the many who go without. The Academy is a perfect place for a Catholic Education founded on learning a true Catholic way of life and achieving excellence in academics. The students are nurtured and cared for in an exceptional manner. Set during the time of World War I, it recounts the visit of two English cartographers, who come to measure the mountain at the outskirts of the village, only to find it is just a hill measuring 1,000 feet short of the required height to be considered, by definition, a mountain. Needless to say, this fact or truth shocks and infuriates the villagers who see their mountain being diminished before their eyes. It seems to me that is what is happening -of course, at a more profound level- during the whole of the scene with Jesus before Pilate. We hear the entirety of the story on Good Friday but thios weekend we hear just a piece of it: Pilate trying to diminish Jesus in rank and stature. We might surmise it is to keep the peace or perhaps to secure his own place as prefect of Judaea. Whatever the reason, he fails to diminish the truth: Jesus kingdom is not of this world; Jesus kingdom is now and not yet. His dominion, as we hear in the first reading is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away. The Book of Revelation proclaims Jesus as the faithful witness, firstborn of the dead, ruler of kings. In that same passage, in case we need a reminder at this time of year, the word proclaims, Jesus loves us. Present tense, in the here and now, Jesus loves us. The word proclaims today, Jesus freed us. It is a done deal that we ae saved. All we need do is accept the gift. Sounds simple, doesn t it.and yet. Finally, the word proclaims, Jesus made us to be a kingdom. This is our work; to be a kingdom and all that entails. Jesus reign is present in Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to their voice. Jesus reign is present in you, in me, in the one who lives, loves, hopes, cares and believes in a world that cannot be diminished -everdespite those who work to diminish, isolate, separate and destroy out of fear and ignorance. Yes, there is truth in the statement: It takes a village to raise a child. It also takes a village to be a village. It takes a village to stand up to the diminishing rhetoric which divides and separates. It takes you and me and him and her to belong to the truth and listen and be the kingdom. Told that their hill was not a mountain, the people of Ffymmon Garw stood up and acted. They formed a bucket brigade -young and old and in-between-and literally carried buckets of dirt up the hill to increase its height and in turn, its visibility. The word proclaims: Jesus loves us, Jesus freed us. Jesus made us to be a kingdom. Will we participate? Do we experience ongoing conversion? Will we pick up our buckets and do the work not to diminish his reign but to make it visible? Let us hope, love and live the truth of Jesus reign in the now, today, as the word proclaims.
