School news Hey Hey! Get your pencils and scorecards ready. Baseball is back in St. William School gym classes! While we use plastic bats and foam baseballs, our kids really took to the sport. Postseason fever helped a ton too! For the past two weeks, pre-school through eighth grade students learned how to pitch, catch, bat, field, and base run. For some students, this was the first time that they ever held a bat, but nothing beats the thrill of hitting the ball, stealing second, or making a play at the plate. They also learned baseball lingo, some baseball history, Cubs lore... and some Sox too. As popular as baseball has become, America s pass time will now be a regular part of our physical education curriculum. Play ball! THE WOMEN S CENTER WREATH SALE The Women s Center is holding their annual Christmas Wreath Sale after all the masses on the weekend of November 26 & 27. Fragrant wreaths and centerpieces will be available. Prices range from $5 to $40. Proceeds from the sale help support the work of the Women s Center of Greater Chicagoland. Through your generosity, teens and young women are provided counseling, social service referrals and material goods assistance who are faced with a crisis pregnancy. 4 GOSPEL MEDITATION "You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name." This is not a pleasant prophecy. On the contrary, Jesus' somber words may strike us with a bit of fear and make us wonder if we will ever actually face such a tragic scenario. We are fortunate to live in a country where religious freedom is tolerated, and of course we hope that this continues to be the case. But the sad fact is that right now, there are Christians in other parts of the world who are living out the reality of these prophetic words. For these men, women, and children of faith, the name of Jesus truly is a cause of persecution and martyrdom. Let us imagine for a moment that the tables were turned. Suppose we were the ones suffering from the violent advances of anti-christian forces. Suppose we were the ones losing our homes, fleeing for our lives, tending to our wounded loved ones, or worse. Where would we look for help? To other Christians, most likely, to those who would sympathize with our commitments but who still had the resources to assist us. We ARE those other Christians. We are the ones who share a common faith with these suffering brothers and sisters on the other side of the globe. We are the ones with the resources to help them, even if it is just in a small way. Our prayers for their protection and peace cannot be underestimated, but neither can we dismiss the significance of contributing in any way possible to those organizations that are working on the front lines to assist the suffering Church throughout the world. May we all do what we can to bring relief to those who need it most.

We hope you can join us for what we feel will be very attention-grabbing discussion! REMINDER! ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 27TH THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY ADVENT DAY OF RECOLLECTION FOR: EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS, MINISTERS OF CARE, USHERS, LECTORS, CCD TEACHERS Our speaker this time will be Fr. Ronald Kunkel. Fr. Kunkel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dogmatic Theology at University of St. Mary of the Lake/ Mundelein Seminary EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP Many years ago, my wife and I traveled to New York City with friends of ours from South Carolina. They had never seen a Broadway show before so we landed some seats to see "Les Miserables." It was a perfect night filled with excitement, fun, and a sense that the Big Apple was a magical place. That is until we started walking back to the ferry station so we could get to our car in New Jersey. I had been to the city several times, so as we proceeded to walk down some streets that perhaps were not the best choices in some minds, I had little fear. But for our friends, suddenly prayer seemed essential to our survival. The pace of the walk increased, as did the pace of their beating hearts. Of course, we did get to the ferry without an altercation and all was well. We laughed as we created an extra memory from our adventure. As Christians, we will walk through hostile territory and darkened streets throughout our lives. The dangers that surround us will be real and will provide us with causes for caution and concern. The defense we try to mount for ourselves will never be enough for our victory. It is the Father that will give us the wisdom to refute and resist our enemies. It is the Father that will prepare a defense for us, one that no power will prevail against. But we must persevere, trust in God, and surrender all to him. Then we will never need to surrender to anyone or anything ever again, and one day, we will find the streets that were dark and scary will be turned to gold and filled with the Light. THANKSGIVING SHARING Soon we will be celebrating Thanksgiving.giving Thanks to God for all his gifts and sharing with family and friends.
Benedykt i Jan byli Włochami, natomiast Mateusz, Izaak i Krystyn Polakami. Pierwsi dwaj przybyli do Polski z inicjatywy biskupa Brunona z Kwerfurtu, towarzysza św. Wojciecha, aby założyć klasztor, który głosiłby Słowianom Słowo Boże. Benedykt z Petreum (ur. 970 r.) pochodził z zamożnej włoskiej rodziny z Benewentu, a Jan (ur. 940 r.) z rodziny weneckich patrycjuszy.
