Saint Joseph Basilica April 29, 2018 3 FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER April 29, 2018 Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth. (1 JOHN 3:18) It is indeed hard to swim against the current; it is so much more pleasant to allow oneself to be carried along without effort by the rushing tide. But when there are rocks and shoals ahead, the thoughtless and ease-seeking swimmer will end in grief. Our Lord has warned us today, as he warned his first followers, to abide in him, to remain closely united with him, as is the branch to the vine, if we hope to bear fruit worthy of heaven. He promises us that if we remain closely united to him, that is, if we strive daily to keep his commandments, he will be ever ready to answer our requests, and to heed all our prayers. The sincere prayer today of everyone who is trying to lead a Christian life is for the grace to overcome the allurements of the world, the flesh and the devil. Let us take courage, then. Christ has promised to remain beside us during life if only we stay close to him. While we remain healthy branches of the vine, Christ, we will be on the road to heaven. Our daily tasks, our work as well as our prayer, our recreation as well as our rest, our joys as well as our sorrows, will give glory to God and prove that we are worthy to be called disciples of Christ. 4 April 29, 2018 Saint Joseph Basilica Next weekend s second collection is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs MAY DEVOTIONS God wills that all his gifts should come to us through Mary. (St. Bernard) It was in Rome, towards the end of the eighteenth century, one fine evening in May. A child of the poor gathered his companions around him and led them to a statue of Mary, before which a lamp was burning, as is the custom in that holy city. There, these fresh young voices sang the Litany of our Lady. The next day, the little group, followed by other children, again gathered at the feet of the Mother of God. Next came their mothers, to join the little assembly. Soon, other groups were formed, and the devotion rapidly became popular. Holy souls, troubled by the disorderly conduct which always increases and becomes graver at the return of the pleasant springtime, saw in these growing practices the hand of God, and they cooperated with the designs of Providence by approving and promoting this new devotion, as a public and solemn act of reparation. The Month of Mary was founded. It is so fitting that the Easter season is a time of joy and a time of spring where nature is awakening to life-- where the flowers begin to bloom and the leaves return to the trees that this beautiful month is dedicated to the Blessed Mother. May 3, 1791 was also part of an historical year where the Polish government instituted the most modern democratic constitution which resembles the Constitution of the United States. In St. Joseph Basilica there are May devotions daily at 7pm which consists of a singing of litany to the Blessed Mother (English: Wed/Thurs.; Polish: Mon/ Tues/Fri.) ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL PRE-K PROGRAM Pre-K education has become the most popular and fastest growing program for children. At this age children are very sensitive and receptive and quickly learn to develop new skills through various activities, games, and social interactions. Pre-K at St. Joseph School is an integral part of the school program and is contained in one building together with upper classes. Little children continually interact with our older students. Through these interactions, age-tailored curriculum, and educational environment of the school, Pre-K children at St. Joseph School awaken their developmental skills and develop maturity faster. The Pre-K classes equip the child for the necessary abilities for kindergarten. The classes are almost full and the waiting list has been established. Our faculty and staff are to be commended. PIĄTA NIEDZIELA WIELKANOCNA 29 kwietnia 2018 Dzieci, nie miłujmy słowem i językiem, ale czynem i prawdą! (1J 3, 18) Kiedy kropla wody wpada do morza, wówczas się w nie zamienia, nie odwrotnie. Podobnie jest z duszą ludzką, jeśli zostanie pociągnięta przez Boga. Duchowe dojrzewanie polega na coraz ściślejszym zjednoczeniu z Chrystusem. Trafnie to doświadczenie opisał św. Paweł: Żyję więc już nie ja, ale żyje we mnie Chrystus (Ga 2, 20). Jeśli trwamy w Bogu przez wiarę, nadzieję i miłość, wówczas nasze życie nabiera nowego sensu. Obficie owocuje, to znaczy otwiera się na coś więcej niż tu i teraz. Każdy, kto doświadczył łaski zjednoczenia z Bogiem, wie, jak prawdziwe są słowa Jezusa z dzisiejszej Ewangelii: Beze Mnie nic nie możecie uczynić NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA W najbliższą środę, 2 maja na Mszy Wotywnej i Nowennie do św. Józefa zgromadzimy się wraz z Rycerzami Kolumba. Będzie to dla nas czas by uhonorować naszego patrona, św. Józefa. To Jego Bóg obdarzy zdaniem opieki nad Świętą Rodziną. Teraz również i my możemy korzystać z Jego rodzicielskiej opieki. Przez Jego wstawiennictwo Bóg zsyła nieskończenie wiele łask, roztacza swoją opieką, a nawet dokonuje cudów. 6 April 29, 2018 Saint Joseph Basilica NABOŻEŃSTWO MAJOWE Gromadzenie się i śpiewanie pieśni na cześć Matki Bożej było znane na Wschodzie już w V wieku. W Kościele zachodnim dopiero na przełomie XIII i XIV w. powstała myśl, aby ten miesiąc poświęcić Maryi. W roku 1549 ukazała się w Niemczech książeczka pod tytułem: Maj duchowy, gdzie po raz pierwszy maj został nazwany miesiącem Maryi. W żywocie św. Filipa Nereusza (+ 1595) czytamy, że gromadził on dziatwę przy figurach i obrazach Matki Bożej, śpiewał z nimi pieśni, zbierał kwiaty i zachęcał do składania ku Jej czci oprócz kwiatów - także duchowych ofiar i wyrzeczeń. Jednakże za autora właściwych nabożeństw majowych historycznie uważa się jezuitę, o. Ansolani (1713). On to w kaplicy królewskiej w Neapolu codziennie w maju urządzał koncert pieśni ku czci Bożej Matki, który kończył się błogosławieństwem Najświętszym Sakramentem. W Polsce pierwsze nabożeństwo majowe wprowadzili jezuici w Tarnopolu w 1838r. W połowie XIX wieku nabożeństwo majowe przyjęło się we wszystkich prawie krajach. Centralną częścią nabożeństwa majowego jest Litania Loretańska, jeden ze wspaniałych hymnów na cześć Maryi, w którym wysławiane są Jej wielkie cnoty i przywileje, jakimi obdarzył Ją Bóg. To piękny zbiór komplementów dla Maryi. Nazwę "Loretańska" otrzymała od miejscowości Loretto we Włoszech, gdzie była szczególnie propagowana i odmawiana prawdopodobnie od 1531 r. Przypuszcza się, że część tytułów Maryi pochodzi z wpisów w księgach sanktuarium Domku Loretańskiego. W naszej parafii Nabożeństwa Majowe będą odprawiane codziennie, od poniedziałku do piątku, o godz. 19:00. Serdecznie zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy. DZIEŃ MATKI Świętowanie Dnia Matki ma szczególne znaczenie dla każdego człowieka. Biorąc pod uwagę ogromną rolę, jaką matka odgrywa w życiu swoich dzieci, w tym dniu dziękujemy naszym matkom w sposób duchowy i modlitewny. W niedzielę, 13 maja, wszystkie Msze św. ofiarujemy w intencji naszych matek. Dla matek, które nadal są z nami, poprosimy Boga o błogosławieństwo i dar dobrego zdrowia. Za matki, które odeszły do wieczności, ofiarujemy dwie Msze św., prosząc Boga, aby udzielił im radości życia wiecznego. POTRZEBNI WOLONTARIUSZE Kolejne obchody Festiwalu już za progiem. Przygotowanie go wymaga ogromnego wysiłki i pracy. Podzieliliśmy klasę 5 na dwie grupy, więc w tej klasie są jeszcze wolne miejsca. Planujemy rozszerzenie naszych programów muzycznych, artystycznych i wychowania fizycznego, a także zajęć pozalekcyjnych, takich jak siatkówka na wiosnę 2019 roku.
