From our Pastor...Today we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord. Our first reading gives a clue to the meaning of this mystery. You will notice that St. Luke does not speak about Jesus "going away," but that "a cloud took him from their sight." There is a difference between "leaving" and "disappearing." When someone leaves, it suggests separation, even finality. When a person disappears from sight, he might still be very close - in another room. Or even closer. Have you never had the experience of thinking that someone has disappeared, but then realized he is standing right next to you? The fact that the disciples no longer see Jesus does not mean that he has gone from them.at the beginning of the twenty-first century, we are in a better position to understand how someone can disappear from sight - and still be very close. We have movies like "The Matrix" that involve a separate dimensions of reality - one unseen by the other. And scientists are now speaking about the possibility of parallel universes or "multiverses." All this should not sound strange to us. As Christians we have always known that a parallel realm exists, that it has an effect on our everyday reality and that we can interact with it.jesus wants us to know about this other dimension - and he wants something else. He wants us to witness to it. You will notice that the word "witness" comes up in both the first reading and the Gospel. Pope Paul VI said, "The world needs witnesses more than it needs teachers." You know, it is relatively easy to be a teacher. Most people are eager to share their knowledge - and especially their opinions. It is much harder to be a witness: To tell others what onr has experienced. That can be risky and demanding. Fr. Pozostają im tylko przeczucia, domysły oraz mętne teorie filozoficzne i naukowe. Nikt jeszcze nie zaświadczył o tym, że nic nie ma, tylko się wydaje. Ci natomiast, którzy wierzą, mają na potwierdzenie swojej wiary świadectwa naocznych świadków, a nade wszystko obietnicę samego Chrystusa Pana: Chcę, aby byli ze Mną. Zanim to jednak nastąpi, zanim wszyscy wierzący w Chrystusa znajdą się tam, gdzie Pan króluje a sprawiedliwość i prawo są podstawą Jego tronu, nastąpi sąd. Ks. Se nota que Jesus no hablar del "salida" de Jesus sino que "una nube lo oculto de sus ojos." Hay una diferencia entre "salir" y "desaparecer." Cuando alguien sale, implica separacion, aun finalidad. Cuando una persona desaparece, puede estar cerca - en otro cuarto. O aun mas cerca. No ha tenido usted la experiencia de pensar que alguien se ha desaparecido, pero luego darse cuenta que esta a su lado? El hecho que los discipulos no ven a Jesus no significa que ha salido de ellos. Al comienzo del siglo veintiuno, estamos en un mejor lugar para entender como alguien puede desaparecerse de la vista - y todavia estar cerca. Tenemos peliculas como "La Matriz" (The Matrix) que proponen dimensiones separadas de realidad - una no vista desde la otra. Y los cientificos ya hablan de la posibilidad de universos paralelos. No debe ser extrano a nosotros. Como cristianos sabemos que que una realidad paralela existe, que tiene un efecto en nuestra realidad y que podemos relacionarnos con ella. FAREWELL BLESSING In the Hebrew scriptures the farewell blessing is a fairly common way to end the story of the lives of the great figures in Israel s faith. The farewell blessings of Jacob, Moses, and David are particularly notable. At the end of Luke s Gospel, we have a farewell blessing by Jesus; it is the only time that Jesus is described as giving a blessing to his disciples. Jesus farewell, of course, is different. Unlike Jacob, Moses, and David, who gave this blessing at the time of their deaths, Jesus bestows his blessing as he prepares to enter into new and glorious life seated at the right hand of God in heaven. His blessing, like that of his predecessors, is meant to give them strength and courage. But it also has another purpose: it prepares them to be sent out on mission. In this way, it is a precursor to the dismissal blessing we receive at the end of every Mass. Yes, the grace of God s blessing strengthens us, but it is also a dynamic force that sends us out on a mission to continue the life and the work of the Risen Christ. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. Reflections from Fr. Emil... THE EUCHARIST IN THE ECONOMY OF SALVATION At the heart of the Eucharist celebration are the bread and wine that, by the words of Christ and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, become Christ's Body and Blood. Faithful to the Lord's commandments the Church continues to do, in his memory and until his glorious return, what he did on the eve of his Passion;"He took bread..." "He took the cup filled with wine.." The signs of bread and wine become, in a way surpassing understanding, the Body and Blood of Christ; they continue also to signify the goodness of creation. Thus in the Offertory we give thanks to the Creator for bread and wine, fruit of the work of human hands, but above all as fruit of the earth and of the wine gifts of the Creator. The Church sees in the gesture of the king - priest Melchizedek, who brought out bread and wine, a prefiguring of her own offering. In the Old Covenant bread and wine were offered in sacrifice among the first fruits of the earth as a sign of grateful acknowledgment to the Creator. But they also received a new significance in the context of the Exodus; the unleavened bread that Israel eats every year at Passover commemorates the haste of the departure that liberated them from Egypt; the remembrance of the manna in the desert will always recall to Israel that it lives by the bread of the Word of God; they daily bread is the fruit of the promised land, the pledge of God's faithfulness to his promises. When Jesus instituted the Eucharist, he gave a new and definitive meaning to the blessing of the bread and the cup. Kosciól wierny poleceniu Pana nie przestaje czynić, aż do dnia Jego chwalebnego przejścia, pamiątki tego, co uczynil Chrystus w wigilie swej męki: "Wziął chleb...""wziąl kielich napelniony winem.." Znaki chleba i wina, stając się w tajemniczy sposób Ciałem i Krwią Chrystusa, nie przestają także oznaczać dobroci stworzenia. Dlatego podczas przygotowania darów dziekujemy Stwórcy za chleb i wino, owoc pracy ludzkiej, najpierw jednak owoc ziemi i winnego krzewu, dary Stwórcy. W gescie Melchizedeka, króla i kapłana, który wyniósl chleb i wino, Kosciol widzi zapowiedż wlasnej ofiary. W Starym Przymierzu na znak wdziecznosci wobec Stworcy składano w ofierze chleb i wino posród pierwocin owoców ziemi. W kontekscie wyjścia z Egiptu otrzymują one jednak jeszcze nowe znaczenie; niekwaszony chleb, który Izraelici spożywają co roku w świeto paschy, upamiętnia pośpiech wyzwalającego wyjścia z Egiptu. Wspomnienie manny na pustyni zawsze będzie przypominać Izraelowi, że żyje chlebem słowa Bożego. Wreszcie codzienny chleb jest owocem Ziemi Obiecanej, potwierdzeniem, ze Bóg jest wierny swoim obietnicom. Jezus ustanowil Eucharystie, nadąjac nowy i ostateczny sens błogoslawieństwu chleba i kielicha. Ks. Emil LA EUCARISTIA EN LA ECONOMIA DE LA SALVACION En el corazon de la celebracion de la Eucaristia se encuentran el pan y el vino que, por las palabras de Cristo y por la invocacion del Espiritu Santo, se convierten en el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Fiel a la orden del Seńor, la Iglesia continua haciendo, en memoria de El, hasta su retorno glorioso, lo que El hizo la vespera de su passion;tomo pan...", "tomo el caliz lleno de vino..." Al convertirse miseriosamente en el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, los signos del pan y del vino siguen significado tambien la bondad de la creacion. Asi, en el ofertorio, damos gracias al Creador por el pan y el vino, fruto del trabajo del hombre, pero antes fruto de la tierra y de la vid, dones del Creador. La Iglesia ve en el gesto de Melquisedec, rey y sacerdote, que ofrecio pan y vino, una prefiguracion de su propria ofrenda. En la Antigua Alianza, el pan y el vino eran ofrecidos como sacrificio entre las primicias de la tierra en seńal de reconocimiento al Creador. Pero reciben tambien una nueva significacion en el contexto del Exodo; los panes acimos que Israel como cada ańo en la Pascua conmemoran la salida apresurada y liberadora de Egipto. El recuerdo del mana del desierto sugerira siempre a Israel que vive del pan de la Palabra de Dios. Finalmente, el pan de cada dia es el fruto de la tierra prometida, prenda de la fidelidad de Dios a sus promesas. Jesus instituyo su Eucaristia dando un sentido nuevo y definitivo a la bendicion del pan del caliz. Padre Emilio
