Thank You Last weekend we celebrated the solemnity of Corpus Christi at our liturgies. The grandest, of course, was the 10:30 bilingual Mass followed by the traditional procession throughout the neighborhood. To those of you who attended, I m sure you ll agree this was a fabulous event, both in terms of pageantry and solemnity, and most important, in the level of spirituality. Special thanks go our to so many people, those who donated their homes, those who donated their artistic talents to create the altars, those who donated the water, the microphones, the flower petals; the servers, the veterans, the angels, the Knights of Columbus, the canopy bearers, the movers of the speakers, the sacristans, the trumpeters and timpanist, the choirs, the preachers, those who helped prepare and those who helped clean up. It was an amazing event which required the help of many dedicated people, all who deserve a big THANK YOU for not only making us look so good, but for sharing their faith in the Blessed Sacrament to the many onlookers who, many for the first time, experienced our Roman Catholic life right in their front yards. There were so many guests from outside our parish as well. We are one of the few remaining congregations around who continue many of these wonderful traditions. This tradition, in particular, is one which truly displays our faith to the outside world in a most unique way. All who partake in it must feel the same extreme pride and devotion as they walk the numerous steps through the streets with Jesus. It was a time to meditate as well as to celebrate. It was an occasion for reminiscing and for dreaming. It was a walking litany, prayer and song to our most precious gift, Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. We escorted Jesus to the homes of our parishioners where he was able to rest on their front porches just long enough for a little talk. He sat there in our midst and listened to every thought, every heartbeat. He shared every tear and every ailment. He watched us all and heard our prayers. What a wondrous gift God has given us in the celebration we regularly share, the sacrifice of the Mass. For that alone, He deserves the biggest THANK YOU! Now that summer has arrived (at least in our minds) we will go about our work at home, in our gardens, waiting for the tomatoes to ripen and the flowers to bloom out. The cycle of nature tells us now to sit back now and then and enjoy the beauty with which God has entrusted us. May He continue to bless all of our parishioners and guests and keep everyone safe, dropping by our front porches in His own way during these upcoming hot days, just being Himself, everyone s best friend. PASTORAL MESSAGE JUNE 21, CZERWCA 2009 You Expect a Caribbean Cruise? Travel agents are busy especially at this time of the year accommodating clients with their plans for a fun-filled cruise on the majestic ocean. Lots of sun, blue skies, plenty of food and drink, laughter and games paradise for a few days! For many people this may simply turn out to be a dream or wishful thinking what s the difference? The result is the same: you re still staying home while your neighbors have all the fun! That s the kind of cruise we would all like. But today s gospel tells us about the unforgettable boat ride that the disciples experienced with Jesus. It was anything but a luxury cruise! It was a stark reminder to the disciples and us that Christ is always in our midst when we struggle against the raging, churning tempests of our lives. Water can be friendly and refreshing, or it can be cruel and deadly. We need water for our very survival. As matter of fact we are initiated into water in the womb of a mother. We know that the ocean, stirred up by highly forceful winds, as in the case of tsunamis, can do an unbelievable amount fatalities and destruction of property. Yet, in all of this God is very present. God is very well acquainted with human suffering He sent Jesus, His Son, to undergo the extreme measure of pain, suffering and death. Everyone of us enjoys pleasant time everything going well. We are healthy, happy and successful. Other times, like in the gospel today, we, like the disciples, even in the presence of Christ, find ourselves screaming for help, Lord, save us! At all times in our life, especially difficult ones, we are asked to trust in Christ, who assures us that He was sent by the Father to save us. With baptism Jesus has given us a new sign, a meaningful symbol of water. Remember the story about Noah and how he used the flood water to survive with his family and animals? Remember Moses who was saved as an infant on flowing waters that directed him to caring people? Remember how the Jewish people were allowed to cross the Red Sea to flee from Egypt, while the horses and charioteers in pursuit of them were all destroyed? Problems, struggles, setbacks, failures, sickness, etc. are all part of life. On our bumpy journey of life we must trust in Jesus and continually accompany him on our way to Calvary, otherwise, we will never arrive safely at the heavenly harbor. We should not think that somehow we should be immune to the adversities of life. This all comes with being a human being! Otherwise, why would Jesus say: I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. In today s gospel Jesus not only saved the disciples, but showed them that he had power of wind and sea. Teacher, they asked, do you not care that we are perishing? What about me, yes, me today do I have any concern or compassion about others who are perishing? Perhaps, we can recall the words of the hymn Amazing grace : I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see and grace will lead me home. Fr. Len W czasie burzy Chyba ż aden fragment Ewangelii nie zestawia tak wyraziście ludzkich i boskich cech Jezusa. Najpierw czytamy, że Jezus cały dzień nauczał tłumy. Możemy więc wyobrazić sobie Jego zmęczenie, gdy przez wiele godzin, w upale, spragniony napoju i odpoczynku, przyjmował ludzi, okazywał im zainteresowanie, pomagał. Nie ma więc co się dziwić, że wieczorem chciał się oddalić od tłumów i wypocząć. I nic też dziwnego w tym, że w łodzi kołysanej falami twardo usnął. Ale łagodne fale pod wpływem wiatru, szybko zamieniły się w groźne bałwany, zalewające łódkę. Apostołowie przerazili się nie na żarty, zaczęli gorączkowo wylewać wodę z łodzi, by ratować się przed zatonięciem. Pewnie nie spodziewali się takiego obrotu sprawy. Być może, burza była dla nich zaskoczeniem, choć przecież jako rybacy z Jeziora Galilejskiego, powinni znać jego zasadzki i niespodzianki bardzo dobrze. Ale Jezus był tak zmęczony, że nawet groźna burza Go nie obudziła. Chyba słusznie uczniowie mieli do Niego pretensje, że się nimi nie interesuje. Cały dzień miał czas dla wszystkich, a teraz, gdy grozi im śmierć, beztrosko sobie śpi. Kiedy więc Go budzili, byli nie tylko przerażeni, ale też i źli. I trudno się im dziwić. Chociaż byli świadkami rzeczy niezwykłych uzdrowień, egzorcyzmów, ale pod wpływem szalejącej wichury wspomnienia te stały się jak nierealny sen. W obliczu niebezpieczeństwa realne były tylko fale i naczynia do wylewania wody. I to, że jeden z nich bezczynnie spał, gdy inni walczyli o życie. W tym momencie widzieli w Jezusie tylko człowieka i dwie dodatkowe ręce do pracy. I kiedy udaje się im obudzić Pana, On najpierw ucisza jezioro i wicher. A kiedy Jego uczniowie oniemiają na widok tego, co się wydarzyło, On zwraca się do nich: Czemu tak bojaźliwi jesteście? Jakże wam brak wiary? (Mk 4, 40). Morze i wicher są posłuszne głosowi Pana. W kontekście tego posłuszeństwa przez żywioły naturalne jest postawione posłuszeństwo słowu Pana Jego Apostołów i też nasze, uczniów Pana żyjących w XXI w. Nieprzypadkowo autor dzisiejszej Ewangelii, św. Marek, notuje, że zaniepokojeni uczniowie zwracają się do swego Mistrza przez nauczycielu : Nauczycielu, nic Cię nie obchodzi, że giniemy? Słowa odpowiedzi Pana: Czemu tak bojaźliwi jesteście? Jakże wam brak wiary? wskazują na kontrast: O ile wicher i wzburzone fale jeziora są posłuszne głosowi Pana, uczniowie Jego okazują brak zaufania, czyli nie są posłuszni Jego słowu. Jak często odnosi się to do nas. A tymczasem, jeśli nawet wicher i jezioro słuchają Pana, czyż my nie powinniśmy Mu okazać nasze posłuszeństwo i zaufanie zwłaszcza w takich doświadczeniach, porównywalnych do burzy na morzu, kiedy wydaje się, że to już koniec, i nie widać wyjścia. Panie przymnóż nam wiary. Pomnóż naszą wierność i ufność, że Ty nas znasz, Ty wszystko możesz i Ty nas miłujesz. o. Placyd

COMMUNITY NEWS JUNE 21, CZERWCA 2009 ST. STAN S HISTORICAL FACT by Rob Jagelewski On Father s Day weekend we remember the St. Stanislaus Dads Club. This organization was formed in 1947. The purpose of the original club was to help the students at St. Stanislaus High School. The Dads Club purchased materials for the high school such as typewriters, visual aids, projectors, screens, and lockers. Upon the merger of the high school into Cleveland Central Catholic, the Dads Club turned their attention to raising money for parish projects and hosting parish social events. St. Stanislaus Pastor, Father Agnelus Sobolewski OFM receives a check from the Dad s Club in 1960 61. Annual Church Picnic Don't forget - next Sunday the Annual Parish Picnic will be held in the rectory garden from 11:00AM to 2:00PM. The friars are generously providing hot dogs, hamburgers, Polish sausage, soft drinks, water and coffee. Parishioners who attend are asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. There will be a coloring contest for children 12 and under. We have also learned that Mr. Rick Krakowski, who is retiring after 19 years at St. Stanislaus School and a total of 40 years in Catholic education, will be attending the picnic. This will be an opportunity for friends and former students to stop by and wish "Mr. K" well.
