Bread and Wine Offering In Loving Memory of +Mary & +Leon Brzuziewski, And Grandaughter, +Carol Rusmisel Hector Alvarado & Jessica Orzech (III) Zane Bogosian & Mellissa Suhar (I) SEVEN MORE GIFTS It s hard to believe that Pentecost is already here! As the Easter season comes to a close we will soon retire many of the decorations that have graced our worship space for the past fifty days. The more recent streamers and flames will remain through the feast of Corpus Christi, but the forsythia and pussy willows and peacock feathers will be retired for another year. Remaining will be the seven flames representing the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety and Fear of the Lord) and the seven colorful banners stretching to various parts of the church building related to the various sacraments which are gifts of another type, different from those of the Holy Spirit, but seven more gifts nevertheless. You may or may have not have noticed that our parish has been able to celebrate all of the sacraments in different ways since the beginning of the year. We ve had numerous Baptisms both held privately as well as within the context of the Mass, most notably at the Easter Vigil and last Sunday morning s 11:30 AM Mass. The latter Mass was also the time when we saw the reception of the Eucharist by six of our children from the Elementary School with children doing the same at this weekend s Polish Mass. The Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated last week when we saw many children from our school along with the neighboring parishes anointed by Bishop Roger Gries. Thus, the three Sacraments of Christian Initiation were experienced by a large number of new Catholics, both young and not so young. The Sacraments of Healing occurred most recently as well with the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the First Communicants taking place most recently, as well as the weekly availability of the Sacrament every Saturday preceding the 5 PM Mass and other seasonal times throughout the year. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick took place formally on Divine Mercy Sunday when some parishioners came to the Sunday afternoon Mass preceding the Divine Mercy Service. Likewise, that sacrament is celebrated throughout the year as necessary when people experiencing severe illness are visited and anointed by one of the parish priests. The Sacraments at the Service of Communion include the final two sacraments of Holy Orders and Matrimony. While the latter of those two receives regular attention at our church, especially in the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons, the former, Holy Orders is less often celebrated with the exception of this past year! This year we were blessed to have two newly ordained priests, Fr. David and Fr. Jason, celebrate special Masses with us as well as the golden jubilee Mass of our own Fr. Len! While the weddings tend to be less a part of the parish, anyone is welcome to attend these events to share in the joy of the reception of that sacrament by the newlyweds. To those who live only on the periphery of the life of this parish, all of the aforementioned activities may have been completely overlooked. To those who are more actively engaged, a brightness of these treasures were revealed before their eyes, the life giving sacraments which we all know but don t always get to celebrate on such a scale. May we never take these gifts for granted, lest be lost to us because of complacency or indifference. Our interior evangelization is an ongoing challenge, a pre-requisite to any serious exterior evangelizing. Our degree of seriousness will determine our future as a vibrant or stagnant parish. PASTORAL MESSAGE January 3 Stycznia 2010 Pastoral Messages May 23 Maja 2010 THANKS, DADS CLUB! In December of 1990, I was a newly ordained deacon and had just arrived at Saint Stanislaus to begin my deaconate service to the parish. On New Year s Eve was my first homily here, and that Mass was followed by the first social event I ever attended at Saint Stanislaus the Dads Club New Year s Eve party. Greeting me at the first table by the door of the Social Center dining room were some of my first friends at the parish: Andy (+) and Mary (+) Guzy; Stanley (+) and Sophie Wasielewski; and Archie and Dolores Mosinski. They invited me to pull a chair up and join them at their table, a gesture of hospitality and welcome that I came to recognize as one of the hallmarks of the Saint Stanislaus Parish community. The room was filled with people having fun, with Polka music, and the lingering aromas of the first of countless Polish meals I was to have here. And this was all run by the Dads Club. For more than 45 years before that, thousands of people had been able to celebrate and to build community because of the graciousness and hard work of the Saint Stanislaus Dads Club. It had originally been founded to support the activities of what was then the Saint Stanislaus High School before it merged with other city parish high schools to become Cleveland Central Catholic. After that merger, the Dads Club shifted its focus to the elementary school and the church. They held social activities that united parish families with one another; they raised significant amounts of money to fund various school and parish priorities; they even found the plans for the pipe organ and expertly restored it to use. They played a crucial role in so many facets of parish and school life, all with a zeal and vigor that cannot be found today. And at the end of the earthly lives of their members and loved ones, they gathered to pray the rosary for their immortal souls. Over the past few years, it has been harder for the Dads Club to carry out its noble mission. Members have died, moved away, or simply gotten older. Few younger men have joined their ranks. The relationship between the school and the parish has changed, and men now joining the parish have other ideas in mind about how to serve and to build community. So, effective next month, June 2010, the Saint Stanislaus Dads Club will retire. This moment comes after much deliberation between the Pastor, the Parish Pastoral and Finance Councils, and the current leadership of the Dads Club. And it is not an easy time, especially for those men who are still members of a club that forms such an important part of their identity in the parish. But at the end of the Easter Season, we remember at Pentecost that the Holy Spirit is the One who animates the Church and all who share in its mission. This same Spirit will guide us as we move into our future. We are committed to creating a new way of organizing the men who bring their children to our school, so that they can share in the educational life of their children. And we will also involve the men of our parish in creating a new parish men s organization that will be dedicated to spirituality, social life, and service. Fr. Pytającym chodzi o ziemskie królestwo Izraela czyli o przywrócenie wolności, niezależności i dawnej świetności, jaką miało za czasów króla Dawida i Salomona. - Jeno cierń i nędza. o. Placyd

Shrine Church of ST. STANISLAUS TWO NEW PARISH ORGANIZATIONS TO FORM Parish Garden Club People delight so greatly in the beautiful gardens around our parish campus. Over the past few years, the gardens have matured and become even more lovely. What an oasis of beauty and calm we provide, as we give praise to God in nature in the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi. And what a fine way of evangelizing our neighborhood with the witness of beauty! Parishioners have helped with some of the tasks, and several people have wondered about forming a Garden Club. This would be a great help, as there are several garden areas, and it gets harder to keep up with them all. Also, we will soon have another large garden spot where the convent had once stood. So we will see if there is interest by having an initial meeting on Saturday, June 5 at 9:00 AM in the rectory. Website Working Group For several years now, Saint Stanislaus has been served by frequent visits to our excellent parish website. (Check it: www.ststanislaus.org) People literally from all around the world check us out for updates, award-winning photos, and information about upcoming events. The site has been kept current by our long-time parishioner Debbie Grale. She will soon be moving out of the Cleveland area and will no longer be able to serve our community in this way. This is a vital communication link for us! Therefore, there will be a meeting of people interested in helping post to the site as well as generating content. If you know a lot, or just a little but want to learn more, please consider coming on Saturday, June 5 at 11:00 AM in the rectory. LOLLY THE TROLLY AND CORPUS CHRISTI Lolly the Trolly will be available for anyone unable to walk the entire route of our annual Corpus Christi Procession on June 6th, but we ask that you reserve your seat in advance by calling Chris Luboski at (216) 407-1144 as soon as possible, as seating is limited to 38 people. A name tag will be mailed to you for you to wear as you board the trolley, which will arrive in front of the church at 11:00 AM. The procession should begin around 11:30 AM. If you are attending the 10:30 AM Mass that day, please make your way to the trolley immediately after the Mass. If you are attending the procession only, you may board the trolley after it arrives at 11:00 AM. Evangelize! How? Invite friends to Corpus Christi Mass and Procession! BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASS Slavic Village parishes share the responsibility of preparing parents to celebrate the baptism of their infant children. Parents need to attend a baptism preparation class before bringing their child to church for the sacrament. The next class will be at Holy Name Church on Sunday, June 6, at 1:00 PM. Please call 271-4242 to register. MARY S MESSAGE TO US: FEED MY CHILDREN! May the month of our Mother. Your donation to the Infants/Toddlers of Slavic Village entitles you to enter the May 30th drawing for a $20 gift card donated by Dana Lauren salon. The card may be used toward any of their many services: manicure, cut/style, color, spa services or hair products. Please fill our baskets with food, drinks, diapers, formula that the children need. Our Mother will certainly smile upon you and yours for caring for her children. Blessed be Mary! New Parishioner Registration Weekend Do you attend Saint Stanislaus but are not yet registered in your own name? Are you looking for a parish to call your own? If you are an adult Catholic (18 or older) and are not registered at any parish, or if you are registered at another parish but regularly attend here as well, please consider formally registering as a St. Stanislaus parishioner. Registration forms (Polish/English) are always available at the parish office, from Manna volunteers, and online at www.ststanislaus.org. Simply fill one out and return it to the parish office. Easier still, members of the Parish Pastoral Council will have registration forms available at all Masses this weekend, May 22-23, and will try to answer any questions you might have. Just fill one out and we will take care of the rest! Coming Soon Annual Parish Picnic Save the date! The annual parish picnic will be held in the rectory garden on Sunday, June 13, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The friars are generously providing hot dogs, hamburgers, Polish sausage, and beverages. Parishioners who attend are asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. There will be coloring and games for the kids, plenty of food, and lots of time for fellowship. This year s picnic falls very close to the conclusion of the Year for Priests (June 19). You are invited to write an appreciative note to any or all of the priests as a way of affirming everything they do in service to our parish. The notes will be collected at the picnic. Hope to see you there! Już wkrótce doroczny parafialny piknik Prosimy zaznaczyć w kalendarzu! Coroczny piknik parafialny będzie miał miejsce w ogrodzie przyklasztornym w niedzielę, 13 czerwca w godz. 11:00 do 2:00. Franciszkanie przynoszą hot dogi, hamburgery, kiełbasę i napoje.
