Jeanette Simcox, Marilyn Mosinski, and Ron and Joanne Grams We are currently amid the season of commencements. This past week the Central Catholic graduates were sent out to begin their new lives, be that in college or directly into the American work force. This coming week we will see the eighth graders of St. Stanislaus School likewise be ushered from their nest to continue their educational odyssey in new surroundings with new challenges and opportunities. Within our own parish we will witness the commencement of our new pastoral team, now with installed and Fr. Joachim in the process of settling in to help him and Fr. Jerzy satisfy our hunger for Christ. Yet another commencement occurs in our liturgical world with the Ascension of Jesus, now seated at the right hand of the Father, the inauguration of the Messiah s kingdom. Then, within a week, the Holy Spirit will be sent upon us as we celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the Church, the commencement of the apostles work in picking up where Jesus left off. The Ascension of Jesus takes the glorified body of the risen Christ to the final step, the irreversible entry of His humanity into divine glory. The journey from Eden to a cloud in the sky might seem a climax to the story of salvation. Then again, might it not be seen as the ultimate commencement. PASTORAL MESSAGE JUNE (CZERWIEC) 1, 2003 SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY The best birthday gift I ever got was twelve years ago this weekend, when Bishop Sklba from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee ordained me to the priesthood. He imposed his hands on my head and invoked the holy Spirit upon me, that I might share in the priestly ministry of Christ as a presbyter in the Church. He anointed my hands with sacred chrism the same oil used at Baptism and Confirmation and presented me with a chalice. Having served Saint Stanislaus as a deacon, I returned to the parish as a new priest and was warmly embraced by the People of God here. What a wonderful experience of ministry and service that was. The people of Saint Stanislaus were excellent teachers, gentle in their approach yet firm in their convictions, steeped in tradition yet open to new ways of being the Church. My eventual departure from Saint Stan s was one of the hardest ever. It is said that one never forgets one s first love. Likewise, priests often have a special fondness for their first parish assignment. This is especially true at Saint Stanislaus. Over the years, so many people have said that, once you get hooked on Saint Stan s, you re hooked for life! Even though my priesthood took some exciting and unusual turns, never would I have imagined my life to be the way it is now. It seems that the history of my vocation is one of continually letting go of or having taken from me something wonderful that I had loved, only to have the Lord return to me something even more marvelous later on. In hindsight, I can point to so many examples of this being true. As the Prayer of St. Francis says, It is in giving that we receive. God cannot be generous with us if we are too busy holding on to what we already have. Although I am happy to be the new pastor of Saint Stanislaus, I join with the sentiments of the whole parish in saying that I sure wish it had not been under these circumstances. To shepherd this community during these times is the most challenging experience of my life. Yet the generosity of God is shown forth in the thousands of acts of kindness that continue to pour forth from the people of this parish community and beyond. These concrete signs of love and concern, small and large, are like the stones that build up this edifice. We have never been challenged so deeply, yet see how we have risen to the challenge and responded to each other with compassion and renewed commitment to our mission and the mission of Jesus. I am grateful to God for my parents and family, who raised me in a home filed with faith and affection; for my friends, recent and from long ago, who encouraged my vocation; for the Friars, who imparted the charism of the Poor Man from Assisi and who continue to form me in the Gospel life; for Fr. Tom and Bishop Pilla, who have given me this ministry as a trust; for our colleagues in ministry, who share in the labor of the vineyard; for the people of this parish community, whose reserve of faith is truly a light to the world; and to Fr. William, my mentor, brother, and friend who is painfully missed and whose memory I hope to honor by being a gentle shepherd and faithful witness to the blessedness of the Kingdom. WNIEBOWST PIENIE Po tych s³owach uniós³ siê w ich obecnoœci w górê i ob³ok zabra³ Go im sprzed oczu. Kiedy uporczywie wpatrywali siê w Niego jak wstêpowa³ do nieba, przyst¹pili do nich (aposto³ów) dwaj mê owie w bia³ych szatach i rzekli: Mê owie z Galilei, dlaczego stoicie i wpatrujecie siê w niebo? Ten Jezus, wziêty do nieba, przyjdzie tak samo, jak widzieliœcie Go wstêpuj¹cego do nieba (Dz.1,9-11). To fragment ksiêgi Dziejów Apostolskich opisuj¹cy scenê, która stanowi o dzisiejszym œwiêcie. Z powy szych s³ów wynika³oby, e uczniowie nie mogli pogodziæ siê z odejœciem Mistrza. W rzeczywistoœci jednak puentê tej historii znajdujemy w dzisiejszej ewangelii: Oni zaœ poszli i g³osili Ewangeliê wszêdzie, a Pan wspó³dzia³a³ z nimi i potwierdza³ naukê znakami, ktore jej towarzyszy³y (Mk 16,20). Jerzy

ST. STANISLAUS THANK YOU! Many thanks to all who made the Friday celebration of my installation as pastor so wonderfully festive. Truly, God was present in the midst of the parish community as we all committed ourselves again to building up the Kingdom of God here at Saint Stanislaus. May God continue to bless all of us! WIN! WIN! WIN! Congratulations to Florence Krysiak from E. 55th St. the fourth winner in the parish 2003 Silent Carnival. You can be a winner too! There is still time to get your envelopes in and have a chance at one of the weekly prizes, or perhaps win one of the Grand prizes on Fathers Day. CALL FOR SACRISTANS Would you like to get involved with the Parish but are afraid to be a Lector or Eucharistic Minister? One way to break into parish life is to become a Sacristan. What does a Sacristan do? A Sacristan sets up everything necessary to celebrate Mass. This is like setting a table for dinner. A Sacristan will set out the wine, the hosts, the dish for washing the priest s hands during Mass, and just sees to it that things are ready to celebrate Mass. If you are interested in this type of ministry please contact Rob Jagelewski at (216) 883 4271 IN YOUR NAME The Parish Pastoral Council, elected by the people of St. Stanislaus Parish advise the Pastor on matters important to the future of the Parish. Because the council acts on our behalf, minutes of the PPC meetings will be posted. The minutes of the April meeting have been posted on the bulletin board in the back of the church. The May minutes will be posted shortly. EDUCATION COMMISSION If you are interested in helping to develop programs to enhance the experience of a being a member of a catholic community and your own spiritual life at our parish, you are invited to join the members of the Education Commission at their next meeting. Please call Carmine Vincenzo at 271-2090 for meeting time or more information. FLOWERS FOR FR.
