Once people dressed like saints and went begging for alms for the poor. It was a vigil in anticipation of the Feast of All Saints. Now we give children in ghostly costumes candy. On the Feast of All Saints, we remember those who have lived lives of holiness and have been named by our church to be Saints. Many of these people were just like us, ordinary folks who did extraordinary things in Jesus name. On November 2nd, we remember those from our families and friends who have gone before us marked with the sign of peace, on the Feast of All Souls. Our tradition is to place an envelope with the names of those who have died and a donation for these poor souls to be remembered each week at the Mass with the intention for the Purgatorial Society. We will have a book by our Baptismal font where you can also place the names of those who have died this past year so that during the coming month of November we can remember them in prayer. ALL SOULS DAY MASS SCHEDULE WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 2 7:00 AM POLISH 8:00 AM ENGLISH 7:00 PM POLISH 8:00 PM SPANISH Our Guadalupana Society will decorate an Altar of the Dead with the traditional Mexican symbols for this weekend. They prepare a feast which includes favorite foods of their dead loved ones. The sugar skulls are placed as a reminder of our immortality. There are also pictures of the loved ones who have died and flowers. This is a time to remember our deceased relatives and friends.
From the Pastor s Desk The Revised Translation of the Mass (Part II) What's new or particularly different about the revised translation? The unique style of the Roman Rite should be maintained in translation. By "style" is meant here the distinctive way in which the prayers of the Roman Rite are expressed. The principal elements of such a style include a certain conciseness in addressing, praising, and entreating God, as well as distinctive syntactical patterns, a noble tone, a variety of less complex rhetorical devices, concreteness of images, repetition, parallelism, and rhythm as measured through the cursus, or ancient standards for stressing syllables of Latin words in prose or poetry. (no. 112) The texts of the revised translation of the Roman Missal are marked by a heightened style of English speech and a grammatical structure that is based on the Latin text. In addition, many biblical and poetic images, such as "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof..." (Communion Rite) and "...from the rising of the sun to its setting" (Eucharistic Prayer III) have been restored. What is the significance of the translation for many (pro multis) in the words of Institution of the Eucharistic Prayer? In October 2006 (after the bishops of the United States approved the Gray Book text of the Order of Mass), Francis Cardinal Arinze, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, communicated to Conferences of Bishops the desire of the Holy Father for a faithful translation of pro multis as "for many" in the formula for the consecration of the Precious Blood at Mass. The use of "for many" renders a translation more faithful to the accounts of the Last Supper found in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. The phrase "for many" does not mean to imply that Christ did not come to save all, but that salvation rests in part on personal acceptance of the salvation freely offered by Christ. Continued Fr. Tony Drogowskazy to pożyteczny wynalazek: pokazują, którędy mamy iść, pomagają w dotarciu do celu. Padre Antonio
Reflections from Fr. Emil... A PRIESTLY, PROPHETIC, AND ROYAL PEOPLE Jesus Christ is the one whom the Father anointed with the Holy Spirit and established as priest, prophet, and king. The whole People of God participates in these three offices of Christ and bears the responsibilities for mission and service that flow from them. On entering the People of God through faith and Baptism, one receives a share in this people's unique, priestly vocation: "Christ the Lord, high priest taken from among men, has made this new people's kingdom of priests to God, his Father. The baptized, by regeneration and the anointing of the Holy Spirit, are consecrated to be a spiritual house and a holy priesthood". Heb 5. 1-5 The Holy People of God shares also in Christ's prophetic office, above all in the supernatural sense of faith that belongs to whole People, lay and clergy, when it unfailingly adheres to this faith once for all delivered to the saints, and when it deepens its understanding and becomes Christ's witness in the midst of this world. Finally, the People of God shares in the royal office of Christ. He exercises his kingship by drawing all men to himself through his death and Resurrection. Christ, King and Lord of the universe, made himself the servant of all, for he came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. For the Christian, to reign is to serve him, particularly when serving the poor and the suffering, in whom the Church recognizes the image of her poor and suffering founder. The People of God fulfills its royal dignity by a life in keeping with its vocation to serve with Christ. Fr. Emil LUD KAPLANSKI, PROROCKI I KROLEWSKI Jezus Chrystus jest Tym, ktorego Ojciec namascil Duchem Swietym i ktorego ustanowil Kaplanem, Prorokiem i Krolem. Chrystus Pan, kaplan wziety sposrod ludzi, nowy lud uczynil krolestwem i kaplanem Bogu i Ojcu swemu. Ochrzczeni bowiem poswieceni sa przez odrodzenie i namaszczenie Duchem Swietym, jako dom duchowy i swiete kaplanstwo. Swiety Lud Bozy uczestniczy takze w funkcji prorockiej Chrystusa. Dokonuje sie to przede wszystkim przez nadprzyrodzony zmysl wiary, ktory jest zmyslem calego Ludu Bozego, swieckich i hierarchii, gdy niezachwianie trwa przy wierze raz podanej swietym, gdy poglebia jej rozumienie i staje sie swiadkiem Chrystusa posrod swiata. Wreszcie Lud Bozy uczestniczy w krolewskiej funkcji Chrystusa. Chrystus urzeczywistnia swoja krolewskosc, pociagajac do siebie wszystkich ludzi przez swoja smierc i Zmartwychwstanie. Chrystus Krol i Pan wszechswiata stal sie sluga wszystkich, nie przyszedl aby mu sluzono lecz aby sluzyc i dac swoje zycie na okup za wielu. Dla chrzescijan sluzyc Mu znaczy krolowac, szczegolnie w ubogich i cierpiacych, w ktorych Kosciol rozpoznaje obraz swego ubogiego i cierpiacego Zbawiciela. Lud Bozy urzeczywistnia swoja godnosc krolewska, zyjac zgodnie z tym powolaniem do sluzby z Chrystusem. Ks. Padre Emilio
The third and fourth graders at St. Bruno have spent the last month choosing and researching a saint to do for their saint s project. They have written a report and drew por- traits of their saints in art class. Students are now preparing and memorizing important facts and information about their saints to recite at the saint s museum, which will take place on November 1. Students will come to school and mass dressed as their saints and will prepare the school mass for All Saint s Day. Afterwards, the third and fourth graders will create a museum in the gym, where students and teachers can come and hear about each of their saint s lives. The saint s project is a way for students to remember and pray for the Saints who have devoted their lives to God. Samantha Rafinski (3 rd Grade) Trzecie i czwarte klasy Szkoły św. Następnie klasy trzecie i czwarte przygotują muzeum o świętych w sali gimnastycznej, gdzie uczniowie i nauczyciele przyjdą aby wysłuchać historii życia świętych.
