Remember Parish, School and Religious education dates take precedence. GOD S WORDS Each day we are bombarded with thousands of words. From the moment our clock radios click on in the morning, until the last moment of the day when the television is turned off or someone bids us good-night, our life is filled with words. Some words that we hear bring news that leaves us feeling low. Some words lift our spirits. Many of the words we hear are trying to get us to buy something. Some words are hurtful. Today the Church focuses our attention on hearing the word of God. Are God s words just more of the same part of the endless stream of words that flow into our ears each day? The challenge today is to allow God s word to inspire us in new ways so that our outlook and attitudes align themselves more closely with the heart and mind of Christ Jesus. Copyright, J. S. From the Pastor s Desk In today's Gospel, Jesus speaks about the power of the seed - the Word of God. He tells us that, if we sow the seed with confidence, it will bring a great harvest of souls. We live in a world where people are hungry - some physically hungry, but many more starving spiritually. Instead of receiving something that will nourish them, they are getting the equivalent of junk food. Think about how we have come to accept abortion, cohabitation, birth control, in vitro fertilization, gambling and pornography. These practices destroy individuals and families. People see this and say, "it is awful, but what can I do about it? If someone wants to throw away his life, it's his problem, not mine." You know, that's like saying, "let them starve." Jesus gives us a seed - and tells us to sow it with abandon. Don't worry if some lands on footpaths and gets trampled - or upon rocks and gets eaten by bird. Whatever happens, keep sowing the seed. Sooner or later, it will bring a harvest. Fr. Tony Przypowieść o siewcy zaprasza nas do odkrywania w jej obrazach prawdy o Królestwie Bożym, o otaczającym nas świecie, o naszym chrześcijaństwie, o głoszeniu słowa Bożego, o chrześcijańskim wychowaniu, o kaznodziejach, o rodzicach, chrzestnych, katechetach, nauczycielach, o nas. Trzeba więc siać - i to z rozmachem, suto, hojnie, wręcz rozrzutnie. Esas practicas destruyen a individuales y familias. Jesus no toma esa actitud. Padre Antonio
Reflections from Fr. Emil SYMBOLS OF THE CHURCH In Scripture, we find a host of interrelated images and figures through which Revelation speaks of the inexhaustible mystery of the Church. The images taken from the Old Testament are variations on a profound theme; the People of God. In the New Testament, all these images find a new center because Christ has become the head of this people, which henceforth is his Body. Around this center are grouped images taken from the life of the shepherd or from cultivation of the land, from the art of building or from family life and marriage. The Church is accordingly, a sheepfold, the sole and necessary gateway to which is Christ. It is also the flock of which God himself foretold that he would be the shepherd, and whose sheep, even though governed by human shepherds, are unfailingly nourished and led by Christ himself, the Good Shepherd and Prince of Shepherds, who gave his life for his sheep. The Church is a cultivated field, the tillage of God. On that land the ancient olive tree grows whose holy roots were the prophets and in which the reconciliation of Jews and Gentiles has been brought about and will be brought about again. That land, like a choice vineyard, has been planted by the heavenly cultivator. Yet the true vine is Christ who gives life and fruitfulness to the branches, that is, to us who through the Church remain in Christ, without whom we can do nothing. Fr. Padre Emilio
