The Bread and Wine is transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ and we, by partaking in the Eucharist, are also transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. St. Augustine issued a wise instruction regarding the Eucharist: "Become what you eat." This is the real challenge of every Eucharistic celebration. Will we allow God to transform us into His Son so that the hope, love, healing, comfort, and mercy He embodies can be brought to our world through us? As Jesus feeds us, how can we feed others? A very warm welcome is extended to all who have come to St. Stanislaus Church to worship this weekend. We are grateful to our parishioners and we welcome our guests who visit us this weekend. You are our model of a Loving Father. When we fail and fall short of your expectations, You are always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day and to encourage us to try again and not to give up. We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others. Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children. Give them warm and open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the words needed for encouragement and perseverance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen. Fr. Roman and Staff
Gospel Meditation Encourage Deeper Understanding of Scripture The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ "The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?'" From the beginning, the Eucharist has been a source of controversy. Some people have always found the teaching difficult to accept. But as Catholics, the Blessed Sacrament is at the heart of our worship and our spirituality; we go to Mass to share in the Holy Sacrifice of Jesus' Body and Blood, and we receive spiritual nourishment from partaking of this Heavenly Food. As Jesus Himself tells us in today's Gospel, "Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in Me and I in Him." From this passage it is clear that Jesus intended the Eucharist to be a tremendous gift for us, for "whoever eats this Bread will live forever." This of course is because the Bread is Christ's "Flesh for the life of the world." In other words, just as He gave His body on the cross to save us from our sins, so too this same Flesh is given for us at every Mass to strengthen our weakness and unite us more deeply to our Savior. Receiving Communion isn't like taking a magic pill, however. We must beware of reducing this sacrament to an empty ritual or a foolproof guarantee of heaven. No, it is quite possible to receive Communion unworthily and reject its spiritual efficacy. Just like the benefits of a healthy meal can be undone by a habit of binging on junk food, so too we can prevent Holy Communion from having its full benefits when we crowd our souls with vices and sins. If, on the other hand, we wish to let this Sacrament of Divine Grace flourish, we should receive it with a sincere spirit of gratitude and reverence, praying that we may be made worthy to receive such a gift. Why Do We Do That? Catholic Traditions Explained Question: One of my coworkers said that Catholics believe we kill Christ again when we celebrate the Mass since it is His Sacrifice. I know that is not right, but how do we explain it? Answer: We do indeed believe that the Mass is the unbloody sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and we believe that the sacrifice is made present again on the altar--not to repeat it, but to join ourselves to it. We are joined to the saving work of Christ, not just simply remembering it. The closest thing we might have in our culture is when a couple saves some wedding cake in the freezer, and on their first anniversary they may watch their wedding video and eat the cake, all to recapture the moment. The Jews celebrate a Seder meal, not to remember the Passover, but to participate in it through the ritual foods, questions, and readings. "The Catechism of the Catholic Church" describes the Mass as the "Holy Sacrifice, because it makes present the one Sacrifice of Christ" (#1330). To think that we must sacrifice Christ over and over again would negate what He did on Calvary. To celebrate and renew it each day allows us to participate in it. That is the "source and summit" of Christian life (#1324). Please pray for all those in hospitals, who are ill or recovering from surgery, and all those ailing at home, in hospice or in nursing homes. Please keep in your prayers: Linda Adams, Phyllis Adamski, Marylu Balacki, Ruth Banaszak, Arlene Bialaszewski, Dolores Biddle, Tracy Britton, Leonard Brozak, Ian Joseph Bruckhaus, Eugene Cherkis, Joseph Camptone, Carol Capidone, Norma Coleman, Carl Conde, Linda Cranston, Nolan Cybulski, Irene Czerwiec, Veronica and Florian Czerniak, Lee Daly-Homa, Hania Ferenc, Casimera Francione, Phyllis Gardiner, Eleanore Golomb, Joanne Hawkes-Orman, Veronica Hajecki, Ruth Hoffman, Laura Ippoliti, Kathy Przyklek-Jedrzejek, Connie Kawka, Hanna Knapik, Irene Knight, Joan and Nick Legonelli, Norma Leblanc, Irene Lichwiarz, Tracy Lingenfelter, Anne May, Theodore McCracken, Kathleen McHugh, Jim Mills, Justina Montanez, Iwona Muszak, Helena Nadworniak, Emily Nakas, Maria Nawrocki-Dzyban, Susan Oberle, Thomas I. Uroczystość Bożego Ciała Uroczystość Bożego Ciała jest uczczeniem Boskiego Ciała i Krwi Chrystusa. A my? Jak często nie doceniamy tego Wielkiego Daru, jakże często zaniedbujemy Mszę świętą? Jak często gdy mamy do wyboru pójście do kościoła na Eucharystię i jakieś inne zajęcie wybieramy to drugie? Najświętsze Serce Pana Jezusa Czerwiec to miesiąc w sposób szczególny poświęcony czci Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa. Kościół widzi w nabożeństwie do Serca Jezusowego znak miłości Boga ku ludziom. Bóg jest miłością. Z miłości Bożego Serca istnieje cały wszechświat i rodzaj ludzki. Father Roman invites all to spend a wonderful afternoon in a family atmosphere! Our annual parish picnic will take place next Sunday, June 25 h from Noon till 4:00 p.m. on the parish grounds. The picnic is a way to thank all parishioners, their families and friends of the parish for their dedication and love with which they shower our church and our parish. Hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and drinks, the all American picnic fare will be provided. If you would like to bring a salad or dessert to share, they would be most welcome. We would like to thank Richard and Sandy Malec for their generous donation of a hot/cold food warmer for the church. It will come in very handy during the Church festival. Thank you again! Update re: Garage Sale Last weekend we made over $900 at the Garage Sale. That amount will be used to cover the jump start expenses for the Festival, which will be on 8/04 and 8/05. We are in need of volunteers for many areas of the festival: shuttle driving, preparing food, baking desserts, setting up, cleaning, serving and others. We will be set up at the church picnic next Sunday to answer any questions and enlist any help we can get for the upcoming festival. Be a Secret Surprise Birthday Blessing! Each week many of you faithfully bring boxes, cans and bags of healthy food for those in poverty. They are very grateful that you help to fill their tables. But even with your very generous donations they continue to struggle to meet day to day basic needs and therefore are not able to afford the extravagance of a birthday cake for their child s birthday. Will you be a birthday blessing and surprise a child by providing the fixings for a Happy Birthday? Take a gift bag and fill it with the items on the list. Return it to the Food Donation Box. Sr. Julia will deliver your secret surprise. Let me get through today, and I shall not fear tomorrow. ~St. Philip Neri Extraordinary Ministers - Lectors - Commentators Altar Servers Ushers Schedule for Saturday and Sunday: June 24-25, 2017 Mass Time Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion Lectors Commentators Altar Servers Ushers Saturday 4:00 p.m. Elaine Bialaszewski Pam Bialaszewski Kathy Urbanic Kathy Urbanic Jenna Taha Gene Golomb, Bill Brand Nick Legonelli George Madden Sunday 9:00 a.m. Veronica Schoenheit Bernadette Trox Andria Mikiciuk, Jan Vorndran Andrew Smagin Andrew Smagin Jack/Amanda/Philip Procaccini Don Williams, Stephen Zielinski, Eugene Chmiel Sr., Ken Gustyn Sunday Polish Mass 11:00 a.m. Halina Kiljan Walter Kiljan Sławka Wojdak Waldemar Wojdak Maria/Małgorzata/Jan Makula Jan Wnuk, Lucja Rzepa John Knick Mark Sewhuk Maciej Kostecki Bronislaw Suchodolski
