mgr inż. Piotr J. Bardziński Streszczenie pracy w języku polskim Zbadano własności mechaniczne mikrokrystalicznych stopów Fe 89 x Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 Si x B 4 (x = 0-15) i Fe 74 Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 La y Si 15 y B 4 (y = 7) otrzymanych metodą odlewania wtryskowego do formy miedzianej (ang. copper mold injection casting) do postaci prętów o średnicy 3 mm. Twardość Vickersa określono w próbie makro- i nano-twardości.
Przedmiotem badań kolejnej części rozprawy były właściwości magnetyczne stopów otrzymanych metodą melt spinning o składzie: Fe 74 Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 La z Si 15 z B 4 (z = 0-7) oraz z = 7 (La:MM, MM = Ce 54.45 La 28.20 Nd 12.42 Pr 3.96 ) zawierających pozostałość amorficzną oraz fazy nanokrystaliczne, otrzymanych w postaci taśm o grubości 25-40 µm, szerokości 0.5-1.0 mm i długości kilku centymetrów. W próbkach z z = 2 i z = 4 otrzymanych jako częściowo skrystalizowane (w stanie wytworzenia) zidentyfikowano obok pozostałości amorficznej, fazy bcc-fe i FeSi o różnej zawartości Si.
Uzyskane zależności M(H) pozwoliły stwierdzić, iż wszystkie badane próbki uzyskane w postaci cienkich taśm wykazywały własności magnetycznie miękkie i charakteryzowały się niską koercją, rzędu 10 1-10 2 A m 1.
Wykonano stanowisko aparaturowe dedykowane do wyznaczania temperatury Curie próbek ferromagnetycznych stopów metali w postaci cienkich taśm.
Streszczenie pracy w języku angielskim First part of the dissertation was devoted to investigate the mechanical properties of microcrystalline Fe 89 x Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 Si x B 4 (x = 0-15) and Fe 74 Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 La y Si 15 y B 4 (y = 7) alloys obtained by copper mold injection casting to a form of rods, 3 mm in diameter. Structure of the samples was analyzed by Cu K-α powder X-ray diffractometry and the unit cell parameters of identified h-fe 2 Hf 0.8 Ta 0.2 (C14 Laves), fcc-fe 16 Hf 6 Si 7 (D8 a ) and bcc-fe phases were calculated. Microstructure was studied by metallographic and scanning electron microscopy. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis was used to study the elemental composition. Uniaxial compression tests were applied to determine yield and compressive strength. Flexural strength, deflection-at-yield and bending modulus were ascertained in three-point bending test. Surface morphologies after compressive and flexural fracture were examined by means of optical microscopy. Elastic moduli were determined by nanoindentation and ultrasonic through-transmission method. The latter was also used to calculate the Poisson s ratio of the studied materials. Vickers hardness was determined in macro- and nano-indentation tests. The study revealed that ascending Si content leads to reduction in values of both unit cell parameters of C14 phase in the alloys studied while causes the expansion of D8 a lattice; decrease in secondary dendrite arm spacing in the middle of the rods; stepwise improvement of yield and compressive strength at the expense of plastic deformation region, what was attributed to the precipitation of C14 Laves/D8 a in the interdendritic regions of bcc-fe; decrease in flexural strength with no effect on deflection-at-yield and exponential increase in hardness of the studied alloys. Correlation was found between unit cell volume of fcc-fe 16 Hf 6 Si 7 phase, yield and compressive strength on Si content. For the alloys with x = 0-13, relation between yield strength and Vickers hardness was described with logarithmic function. It was found, that the lattice expansion of bcc-fe and, in lesser extent, C14 Laves phase is correlated with the value of bending modulus in the whole 5
composition range. Initial short pulsed laser-welding tests confirmed acceptable weldability (defined as melting two materials together without using a solder to join them) of the investigated alloys with unalloyed hypoeutectoid steel with ferritic-pearlitic microstructure. Mechanical properties of the newly developed alloys were compared with this steel. In the second part of the dissertation, I investigated the magnetic properties of melt-spun Fe 74 Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 La z Si 15 z B 4 (z = 0-7) and z = 7 (La:MM, MM = Ce 54.45 La 28.20 Nd 12.42 Pr 3.96 ) alloys that contained the amorphous remainder and nanocrystalline phases, obtained in the form of thin ribbon strips, typically 25-40 µm thick, 0.5-1.0 mm wide and a few centimeter-long. The alloys with z = 0 and z = 7, amorphous in the Mössbauer spectra, were annealed at temperatures of 833 and 866 K in order to achieve partial crystallization. Annealing temperatures were determined from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) tests. Alloys with z = 2 and z = 4 were prepared with melt spinning method utilizing two different sets of parameters, what led to different solidification rates. Thus, either fully amorphous or partially nanocrystalline structure (in the Mössbauer spectra) was possible to be obtained for each alloy composition. Structure of the samples was investigated with powder x-ray diffractometry, utilizing Cu K-α radiation. Presence of amorphous halo was revealed in the diffractograms corresponding to all of the studied samples. Diffractograms of the as-prepared samples with the composition: z = 2, z = 4 and z = 7 did contain the reflections ascribed to thermally metastable GdCu nanocrystalline phase with regular structure. Diffractograms of the annealed samples with z = 0 and z = 7 revealed the reflections ascribed to bcc-fe phase and the amorphous halo. Diffractogram of as-quenched sample with z = 7 that contain mishmetal, several reflections belonging to the unknown phase were revealed. Average crystallite size was calculated from the Scherrer equation. Structure of the samples was also studied by means of Mössbauer spectrometry in transmission geometry. The Mössbauer spectra obtained for the as-prepared samples with the composition: z = 0, 2, 4, 7 (La), 7 (MM) consists of broadened sextet, corresponding to amorphous structure. In the partially crystallized as-prepared samples with z = 2 and z = 4, besides the amorphous remainder, bcc-fe and FeSi phases were identified, the latter with different Si content. In the annealed samples with z = 0 and z = 7 I identified additional Fe 2 Hf (C14 Laves) phase. Residual amorphous phase contributed to about a half of the area of the fitted spectra of all nanocrystalline samples studied. Hyperfine field distributions P(H) revealed that the amorphous phase can be characterized by the regions of different concentration of the iron atoms. Comparison of D23 parameter values calculated 6
for all of the studied samples, revealed the preferred orientation of magnetic moments parallel to the sample plane, which is correlated with the formation of nanocrystalline phases that contain Fe. Such orientation of magnetic moments was also noted for the sample with z = 0 in as-prepared state. Samples with z = 2-7 that were proved to be amorphous in the Mössbauer spectra, revealed random orientation of the magnetic moments. Magnetic properties of the alloys were investigated using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Magnetization curves M(T) were recorded in the external magnetic fields of 50 and 2000 Oe. Demagnetized samples were cooled from 300 to 50 K in zero magnetic field. Then, DC magnetic field was applied and zero field-cooled (ZFC) magnetization measurement was performed during warming up from 50 to 400 K. Field-cooled (FC) measurement of M(T) was carried out by cooling the samples in external magnetic field from 300 to 50 K, and magnetization was measured during subsequent warming up to 400 K. Magnetic hysteresis loops were collected every 100 K from 100 to 400 K in the magnetic field up to 10 koe. According to FC-ZFC data it was proposed that samples containing amorphous remainder exhibited features of magnetic spin-glass order. Obtained M(H) dependencies led me to the conclusion, that all of the samples obtained in the form of thin ribbon strips exhibited soft magnetic properties with low coercivity what was in the order of 10 1-10 2 A m 1. Magnetic anisotropy constant K was determined from the reduced magnetization curves fitted with the Langevin function. Values of K were in the range of 6 10 5-2 10 6 Jm 3 for the samples at temperature of 300 K. They comply with their scientific literature counterparts [1, 2, 3]. The obtained values of K constant indicate negligible relaxation effects in the case of mean-sized crystallites. The values of Bloch law parameter B, that describes thermal demagnetization proportional to T 3/2, were about 1-5 10 5 K 3/2 for all investigated samples. They agrees well with values reported in the literature for the nanoscale ferromagnetic systems [4, 5]. Obtained values of B can be explained by low energy magnons excitation due to nanograin/cluster size confinement. I observed a linear increase in the value of B constant with ascending La:Si ratio. Besides, it was shown that the presence of ferromagnetic nanocrystalline phases in the investigated alloys leads to decrease in the values of B constant, which declines with ascending annealing temperature. Calculated mean blocking temperatures of nanocrystalline samples were in good agreement with temperature distribution of T bl extracted from the first temperature derivative of thermoremanent 7
magnetization divided by temperature. Mean diameter of magnetically unblocked nanograins, d m, calculated from the width σ of log-normal distribution of their volumes was found to range between 3-6 nm. Obtained values of d m were in good agreement with the ones determined from the Langevin function fit to the reduced magnetization curves. Results obtained from magnetic measurements complies well with the average crystallite size, calculated using the Scherrer equation applied to the powder X-ray diffraction data. Calculated average crystallite size was about 4-11 nm for all investigated alloys found to contain nanocrystalline phases. Obtained dimensions of nanoscale grains of ferromagnetic phases are lower than critical diameter of spherical bcc-fe nanograins for monodomain regime, which is d 14 nm [6]. Calculated nanoparticle diameter is comparable with those reported in the literature for the alloys with similar composition [7, 8, 9]. Dedicated test stand was built in order to determine the Curie point of ferromagnetic alloy sample shaped in the form of thin ribbon strips, which serves as a core material for the gauge coil winding. Changes in inductivity of the coil plotted versus temperature are recorded during cooling of the sample preheated to a certain temperature. The temperature characteristic of the effective permealibility of the core material can be determined, as the inductivity of the coil changes with permeablity of the core which, together with the resistivity of a coil material is a function of temperature. Curie points of the thin ribbon-shaped alloy samples were determined to range between 372-512 K. It was shown, that the samples of as-cast Fe 74 Hf 4 Ta 1 Cu 1 Gd 1 La z Si 15 z B 4 alloys with z = 0-7, that were amorphous in the Mössbauer spectra, can be characterized by the linear decline of T C value with ascending La:Si ratio. The alloy with z = 7 exhibits an increase in T C value with the rise of annealing temperature. Observed relations were explained by the changes in low-range order, i.e., changes in distance between iron atoms in the sample. On the other hand, the alloy with z = 0 exhibits a decrease in the T C value with annealing temperature rise, probably as a result of phonon modes hardening, caused by the relaxation of residual stresses introduced to the material in the rapid solidification process as well as the redistribution of structural defects [10]. Temperature characteristics of resistivity of the investigated alloys were measured with fourprobe method in the temperature range of about 140-300 K. Room temperature resistivity of the as-prepared alloys was 1.3-2.4 µωm, while in the case of partially crystalline annealed samples was 0.8-2.8 µωm. The values obtained are typical for the amorphous iron-based alloys. In the ρ(t) plots recorded for the samples with dominant contribution of amorphous remainder, the one can distinguish high temperature part of the characteristic with larger slope as well as the lowtemperature plateau. The experiments shown that dominant contribution to ρ(t) in higher 8
temperatures comes from the conduction electrons scattering on phonons, while in the lower temperatures, the conduction electrons are mainly scattered on structural non-uniformities of the material. In the samples containing nanocrystalline phases, which represent higher level of structural order, in the investigated temperature range, the ρ(t) dependency was linear, what suggests dominant contribution of the conduction electrons scattering on phonons. Positive value of the slope of linear part of the ρ(t) characteristic obtained for these samples is a feature of partially nanocrystalline samples [11]. Bibliografia: [1] Skomski, R., J. Phys. Cond.
