TEATRO AL FRESCO This past Monday evening about one hundred parishioners and neighborhood guests were treated to a wonderful presentation by the youngest members of Cleveland Public Theater as they produced their contemporary interpretation of Peter Pan: NEVERLAND. It was great to see so many teenagers as members of the crew and cast work together to put on a truly unique performance. Thanks goes out to members of the STEPS program of CPT who work with our city s youth providing a creative outlet for them. Just as these young people were performing our own Li l Bros returned from their annual Wisconsin retreat. Judging from the happy faces a great experience was had by all. And, judging by HIS tired face, Fr. Mike was glad to return everyone safely into the arms of the awaiting parents. It I good to see positive things happening in our midst! It was a beautiful day for an outdoor Mass... a beautiful day for a picnic. And so they gathered from near and far to celebrate at the Alumni picnic on Sunday, July 29 at Klima s Gardens in Cuyahoga Hts. Approximately 150 people alumni of St. Stanislaus Grade School and High School, parishioners, and friends of St. Stanislaus came together to celebrate our faith and the special bond that being a part of St. Stanislaus forms. The class of 1952 th celebrated their 60 class reunion; the class of 1962, their 50th. The grilled food, donated by Red Chimney, Jaworski Meats, and Five Star Meats, was combined with numerous side dishes and desserts provided by those attending. A 50/50 raffle, an accordion player, polish music, conversations, laughter, and lots of love went into the event to make it successful. If you were a part of this gathering event, we thank you for your participation and support. Our next event is the Alumni Chili Cook-off to be held on January 26, 2013, in the Social Center. List do moich Braci i Sióstr ludzi w podeszłym wieku napisał w 1999 r. błogosławiony Jan Paweł II. W tym tekście Ojciec św. zwraca się z wielką prostotą i ciepłem do swoich rówieśników. 15. Od najdawniejszych czasów aż do naszych dni w ludzkiej kulturze pojawiają się odpowiedzi pesymistyczne, które redukują obszar życia tylko do wymiaru ziemskiego. Nawet w Starym Testamencie niektóre wersety Księgi Koheleta mówią o starości jako o walącej się budowli, która zostaje całkowicie i ostatecznie zniszczona przez śmierć (por. 12,1 7). Ale właśnie w świetle tych pesymistycznych odpowiedzi jeszcze wyraźniejszych kształtów nabiera pełna nadziei wizja, promieniująca z całego Objawienia, a zwłaszcza z Ewangelii: «Bóg nie jest [Bogiem] umarłych, lecz żywych» (Łk 20,38). Apostoł Paweł poświadcza, że Bóg, który daje życie umarłym (por. Rz 4,17), przywróci życie także naszym śmiertelnym ciałom (por. Rz 8,11). Jezus zaś tak mówi o sobie: «Ja jestem zmartwychwstaniem i życiem. Kto we Mnie wierzy, choćby i umarł, żyć będzie. Każdy, kto żyje i wierzy we Mnie, nie umrze na wieki» (J 11,25 26). Chrystus, przekroczywszy bramy śmierci, objawił życie trwające poza jej granicą, na owym nie zbadanym przez człowieka terytorium, którym jest wieczność. On jest pierwszym Świadkiem życia wiecznego: w Nim ludzka nadzieja pełna jest nieśmiertelności. «Choć nas zasmuca nieunikniona konieczność śmierci, znajdujemy pociechę w obietnicy przyszłej nieśmiertelności». [21] Tym słowom, które liturgia ofiarowuje wierzącym w chwili ostatniego pożegnania z bliską osobą, towarzyszy orędzie nadziei: «życie Twoich wiernych, o Panie, zmienia się, ale się nie kończy, i gdy rozpadnie się dom doczesnej pielgrzymki, znajdą przygotowane w niebie wieczne mieszkanie». [22] W Chrystusie śmierć, rzeczywistość dramatyczna i wstrząsająca, zostaje odkupiona i przemieniona, aby ostatecznie ukazać nam oblicze «siostry», która prowadzi nas w ramiona Ojca. [23] 16. Wiara rozjaśnia zatem tajemnicę śmierci i opromienia swym światłem starość, która nie jest już postrzegana i przeżywana jako bierne oczekiwanie na moment unicestwienia, ale jako zapowiedź rychłego już osiągnięcia pełnej dojrzałości. Lata te należy przeżywać w postawie ufnego zawierzenia Bogu, szczodremu i miłosiernemu Ojcu; ten czas trzeba twórczo spożytkować, dążąc do pogłębienia życia duchowego przez usilniejszą modlitwę i gorliwą służbę braciom w miłości. Zasługują zatem na uznanie wszystkie inicjatywy społeczne, dzięki którym ludzie starzy mogą nie tylko dbać o swoją kondycję fizyczną i intelektualną oraz rozwijać relacje z innymi, ale także stawać się przydatni, oddając innym swój czas, umiejętności i doświadczenie. Pozwala im to zachować i pogłębić świadomość wartości życia, najważniejszego daru Bożego. Zarazem jednak ta świadomość nie jest sprzeczna z pragnieniem wieczności, dojrzewającym w ludziach, którzy przeżyli głębokie doświadczenie duchowe, czego świadectwem jest życie świętych. Ewangelia przypomina nam tu słowa starca Symeona, który oświadcza, że jest gotów umrzeć, ponieważ dane mu było wziąć w objęcia oczekiwanego Mesjasza: «Teraz, o Władco, pozwól odejść słudze Twemu w pokoju, według Twojego słowa. Bo moje oczy ujrzały Twoje zbawienie» (Łk 2,29 30). Apostoł Paweł doznawał swoistej rozterki, chciał bowiem żyć dalej, aby głosić Ewangelię, a zarazem pragnął «odejść, aby być z Chrystusem» (por. Flp 1,23). Św. Ignacy z Antiochii, gdy szedł z radością na śmierć męczeńską, dawał świadectwo, że słyszy w sercu głos Ducha Świętego, który niczym strumień «wody żywej» płynący w jego wnętrzu szepcze mu słowa wezwania: «Pójdź do Ojca». [24] Takie przykłady można by mnożyć. Nie przesłaniają one bynajmniej wartości życia ziemskiego, które warto przeżyć do końca, jest bowiem piękne mimo swych ograniczeń i uciążliwości. Przypominają nam jednak, że nie jest ono wartością ostateczną, jako że w wizji chrześcijańskiej koniec ziemskiego bytowania postrzegany jest jako «przejście» przez most przerzucony między życiem a życiem, między kruchą i nietrwałą radością doczesną a pełnią radości, jaką Bóg przeznaczył swoim wiernym sługom: «Wejdź do radości twego pana» (Mt 25,21).
LIVING THE EUCHARIST Bl. John Paul II s Letter to the Elderly continued 15. Human history, from the most ancient times down to our own day, has provided a number of simplistic answers which limit life to what we experience on earth. In the Old Testament itself, certain passages in the Book of Ecclesiastes seem to present old age as a building in ruins and death as its final and utter destruction (cf 12:1-7). But precisely against the backdrop of these pessimistic attitudes there shines forth the hope-filled outlook present in revelation as a whole and particularly in the Gospel: God is not God of the dead, but of the living (cf. Lk 20:38). The Apostle Paul affirms that God, who gives life to the dead (cf. Rom 4:17), will also give life to our mortal bodies (cf. ibid., 8:11). And Jesus says of himself: I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die (Jn 11:25-26). Christ, having crossed the threshold of death, has revealed the life which lies beyond this frontier, in that uncharted territory which is eternity. He is the first witness of eternal life; in him human hope is shown to be filled with immortality. The sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality.(21) These words, which the Church's Liturgy offers as a consolation to believers as they bid farewell to their loved ones, are followed by a proclamation of hope: Lord, for your faithful people life is changed, not ended. When the body of our earthly dwelling lies in death we gain an everlasting dwelling place in heaven.(22) In Christ, death tragic and disconcerting as it is is redeemed and transformed; it is even revealed as a sister who leads us to the arms of our Father.(23) 16. Faith thus illuminates the mystery of death and brings serenity to old age, now no longer considered and lived passively as the expectation of a calamity but rather as a promise-filled approach to the goal of full maturity. These are years to be lived with a sense of trusting abandonment into the hands of God, our provident and merciful Father. It is a time to be used creatively for deepening our spiritual life through more fervent prayer and commitment to the service of our brothers and sisters in charity. Most commendable then are all those social programmes enabling the elderly to continue to attend to their physical well-being, their intellectual development and their personal relationships, as well as those enabling them to make themselves useful and to put their time, talents and experience at the service of others. In this way the capacity to enjoy life as God's primordial gift is preserved and increases. Such a capacity to enjoy life in no way conflicts with that desire for eternity which grows within people of deep spiritual experience, as the lives of the saints bear witness. Here the Gospel reminds us of the words of the aged Simeon, who says he is ready to die now that he has held in his arms the long-awaited Messiah: Lord, now you let your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation (Lk 2:29-30). The Apostle Paul felt torn between the desire to continue living in order to preach the Gospel, and the desire to depart and be with Christ (Phil 1:23). Saint Ignatius of Antioch, joyfully going to his martyrdom, said that he could hear within him the voice of the Spirit, like living water welling up inside of him and whispering the invitation: Come to the Father.(24) These examples could be multiplied. They cast no doubt whatsoever on the value of earthly life, which is beautiful despite its limitations and sufferings, and which ought to be lived to its very end. At the same time they remind us that earthly life is not the ultimate value, in such a way that the twilight of life can be seen from a Christian perspective as a passage, a bridge between one life and another, between the fragile and uncertain joy of this earth to that fullness of joy which the Lord holds in store for his faithful servants: Enter into the joy of your master (Mt 25:21).

The proceeds from these tickets are the most important segment of fund raising for this festival. Please try your best to return your sold ticket stubs as soon as possible to be included in the special drawing on October 7th.
