Our Beloved Dead Lorraine Dieringer Stewardship - Thoughts on Giving Lord, what do You want me to do today with all the gifts You have given me? Then be sure to listen for His response throughout each day. As baptized disciples of Jesus Christ we continue to support the parish first and foremost through our prayers and through our giving back to God in return for all His blessings given to us. There are four ways of giving to God. 1. Planned giving: Money is designated in the household budget for the Lord. 2. Priority giving: Give to God first before all other expenses. 3. Percentage giving: A percentage is given instead of a dollar amount. 4. Progressive giving: The percentage is increased at a regular interval. These four ways of giving are not based solely on the need for money; but more importantly on our need to give. Weekly Contributions: A note from the Finance Committee We need to maintain the momentum of the great financial progress we made in the last fiscal year. Have you missed a weekly donation that you can catch up on? Thank you for giving this your consideration. Notes: The Mass on Holy Thursday and the Good Friday Liturgy will be in English; with a reading and some songs in Polish. The Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday at 8:00pm will be all in English and the 5:30am procession and Mass will be all in Polish. The solemn high holy days of the Church the Triduum take place on Holy Thursday afternoon (Apr. 17th) and continues to Easter Sunday night (Apr. 20th). All of the parish buildings (gym, school, Leyden hall, Queen of Peace, St. Joseph etc.) are shut down during this period and are not to be used. All Catholics make every effort to attend the Triduum services. The 4th Sunday of Lent is traditionally known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare is Latin for the word rejoice which is the first word of the antiphon at the Introit of the Mass. Laetare sets a tone of joyful anticipation of the Easter mystery, as does the use of rosecolored vestments. This is the only Sunday in Lent when flowers are permitted in the sanctuary. 4 READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Is 65:17-21; Ps 30:2, 4-6, 11-13b; Jn 4:43-54 Tuesday: Ez 47:1-9, 12; Ps 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9; Jn 5:1-16 Wednesday: Is 49:8-15; Ps 145:8-9, 13cd-14, 17-18; Jn 5:17-30 Thursday: Ex 32:7-14; Ps 106:19-23; Jn 5:31-47 Friday: Wis 2:1a, 12-22; Ps 34:17-21, 23; Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30 Saturday: Jer 11:18-20; Ps 7:2-3, 9bc-12; Jn 7:40-53 Sunday: Ez 37:12-14; Ps 130:1-8; Rom 8:8-11; Jn 11:1-45 [3-7, 17, 20-27, 33b-45]

The Scrutinies for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) Our Faith This weekend the Church continues the Scrutinies these are prayers for the Elect who will receive the Sacraments for the first time at the Easter vigil they are rites to encourage self-searching and repentance. At St. Thecla Divya Chona has attended the RCIA sessions and as a catechumen recently committed to be Baptized, Confirmed and receive Holy Communion. Her name was enrolled in the Book of the Elect in the Rite of Acceptance at Holy Name Cathedral. The primary purpose of the Scrutiny is for the Elect (here and around the world) to deepen their understanding for coming to Christ, accepting the gift of faith and placing their trust in Him. The Elect come to the realization that it is the Lord himself calling them to the Sacraments and understanding His abiding presence in their lives. The second part of the Scrutiny is the Prayer of Exorcism: The Catholic Church teaches that these prayers are meant to uncover, and then heal all that is weak, defective and sinful within their souls; and then bring out and strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. The evil one wants to tempt them into sin, create confusion or some havoc in their day to day life, especially as they get closer to receiving the sacraments for the first time. Our prayers ask the Lord to deliver them from this evil power, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ. Scripture connection: The symbol in today s Gospel is light. The man blind from birth received his sight as he put his faith and trust in Jesus. Imagine the first person he sees is Jesus himself! Eyesight is a very precious gift; to be able to see all of creation and glorify God. Eyesight also allows us to see the results of sin and evil and can lead us to enlighten our own conscience to avoid whatever leads us into the darkness of sin; and the darkness of no longer perceiving our Lord s guiding hand. An interesting paradox takes place in this gospel. The people with eyesight refuse to accept the source of the man s miracle and become very blind to the gift of faith. Our Lord still offers each of us the light of faith or the eye of faith to see His presence in the Eucharist, in creation and in our brothers and sisters. We cannot achieve this spiritual illumination, this seeing, on our own a choice is always presented to us. We can remain in stubborn blindness, willfully rejecting the gift being offered, or we can accept the shining truth that transforms us into witnesses to the faith. The Second Scrutiny calls for the Spirit of Truth. Let us as the family of St. Thecla offer prayers so our Elect and those around the world will trust in the truth of Christ; and in it find freedom of mind and heart to persevere in sharing this belief regardless of persecutions, temptations or failures. Together let s enter the Scrutiny. Eagle Scout Project for the Women s Centers Luis Rentas, St. Edward School class of 2010, is working on his Eagle Scout Project, a Baby Shower for the Women s Center. Year of Strong Catholic Parents/Rok Formacji Rodzicow How do you define success as a parent? As Catholics we look to Jesus as the one whose birth, life, death, and Resurrection most completely and reliably reveal God s dream for us. God wants a relationship with each of us. God wants to be part of all our struggles and our joys, our emptiness and our fullness. God wants us to be free so we can be fully alive. As parents our task is to lead our children to know God, love him, and follow his ways. We know that despite our attempts to protect them, our children will experience the full range of human experiences, emotions, and temptations. We succeed when we pass on to them the conviction that no matter what happens, they can always turn to God who is at their side. - Tom McGrath Jak rozumiesz odnoszenie sukcesów w byciu rodzicem? - Tom McGrath SUMMER ATHLETIC and SCIENCE CAMPS AT RESURRECTION Resurrection College Prep High School offers the following summer camps. St. Thecla School News News from 5th grade... Students have been working hard in 5th grade to prepare for the annual standardized tests. Students practiced Math skills, reviewed maps, and applied editing tools to pieces of writing. During the first week of March, the 5th graders, along with the students in grades 3, 4, 6, and 7, took the Terra Nova Tests. Everyone did a wonderful job. For our monthly Art theme, students focused on recycled pieces of art. The 5th graders created collage letters using old magazines to spell out a special message to help them remember the importance of Lent being a time to prepare for Jesus' Resurrection. The message is on one of the bulletin boards in our classroom to help us remember how we need to spread God's Love, especially during this time of year. -Miss Jennifer Miller St. Thecla School is an amazing school where students in prekindergarten through 8th grade learn to value the diverse cultures that shape who we are as a community. At St. Thecla School, students are loved, respected, and celebrated, and they are taught to show their love for others by serving our community. Our school is blessed with caring students, a dedicated staff, active parents, and committed parishioners. St. Thecla School is also paving the way with ipads and Smart Board technology that are fully integrated into our curriculum. This technology allows St. Thecla to fulfill students educational needs and adjust to their lifestyles, incorporate collaborative learning, and most importantly, provide our children with the opportunity to explore learning and to teach each other. We invite you to explore our website to gain a sense of St. Thecla s educational philosophy, but the best way to get to know St. Thecla School is to visit us! We welcome you to schedule a tour so you can see the classrooms, meet our faculty and students, and have all of your questions answered The mission of St. Thecla School, as part of St. Thecla Parish, and the Archdiocese of Chicago, is to provide quality education that reflects the Catholic way of life. All based on the teachings of Jesus, we want our students to be: Service-oriented members of the community Collaborative workers Self-directed learners Complex thinkers Effective leaders Our philosophy We believe: That the parents are the primary educators of their children. That the faith life of each student should be nurtured emphasizing Catholic values. That as a part of the Catholic Community of St. Thecla Parish we share a mission of service and stewardship. In an all encompassing curriculum that meets the mental, spiritual, social, physical, and emotional needs of all students. In encouraging creative thinking and problem solving skills. That as a Catholic school we are preparing students to assume the duties of Christian citizenship. In celebrating our students God given talents through fine arts and athletic programs. In our Lord s message to love one another. 12
