Wielu artystów złożyło już wizytę w mieście partnerskim, gdzie pokazali swoje prace, dostarczając nowych impulsów dla lokalnej sceny artystycznej. W ten sposób poznało się wielu polskich i niemieckich twórców sztuki, a nawiązane znajomości nierzadko owocowały wspólnymi projektami i bliskimi przyjaźniami, które dzięki woli zainteresowanych i charakterystycznej dla dzisiejszych czasów globalizacji kontaktów obejmowały coraz szersze kręgi. Każdy z tych kontaktów stanowi przekonujący dowód szerokich możliwości, jakich może dostarczać harmonijna i konstruktywna współpraca. Wystawa, której towarzyszy ten katalog, dzięki różnorodności prezentowanych gatunków sztuki przyciągnęła do Przemyśla nie tylko starych znajomych, ale również nowe twarze. Paderborn w swoim mieście partnerskim chciałby pokazać różnorodność swej młodej sztuki. Dlatego zebrano dzieła piętnastu artystów znad rzeki Pader. Wolfgang Brenner, Manfred Claes-Schaefers, Andreas Eikenberg, Renate Kastner, Kornelia Kopriva, Jörg Lütkemeier, Maria-Margaretha Modlmayr, Hyazinth Pakulla, Werner Schlegel, Christine Steuernagel, Petra Stöppel, Christina Strunz, Johannes Waldemade, Manfred Webel i Juan Zamalea prezentują swoje fotografie, rysunki, malarstwo i prace w różnych technikach graficznych, obiekty wycięte z tworzyw sztucznych oraz kolaże, będące swobodnym połączeniem materiałów i technik.
Wszystkie dzieła mają wspólną cechę: przedstawiają życie, rozwój i rozkwit, radość istnienia. Artyści, posługując się metaforycznymi i abstrakcyjnymi motywami, wyrażają wizję kosmosu - planet, a w szczególności człowieka jako indywidualnej istoty, będącej świadectwem aktywnej afirmacji życia, a także ciągłych przemian przyrody i odwiecznego ruchu. Jednak tematem są także rozwój i cywilizacja, to, co zbudowane ręką człowieka, oraz stworzone i stosowane przez niego technologie, które dostarczają sztuce nie tylko motywów i treści, ale także sztucznie wytwarzanych materiałów oraz nowoczesnych możliwości technicznych wyrażania kreatywności. Artyści kreślą afirmacyjny obraz naszego bytu, obraz globalny, wykraczający poza granice społeczne, granice krajów i planet, w którym naturalnie nie mogło zabraknąć kilku poważnych i refleksyjnych, czasem niemal medytacyjnych akcentów. Obraz, jaki żyje dziś i teraz, a jednocześnie umożliwia spojrzenie na to, co było na początku, na zmiany i rozwój, które piszą historię naszego życia. Mimo swej różnorodności dzieła sztuki prezentowane na wystawie stanowią perfekcyjną całość i w przekonujący sposób, zarówno pod względem optycznym, jak i merytorycznym, dokumentują harmonię współistnienia, różnorodność indywidualności, która również powinna stanowić cel współżycia ludzkiego. Wystawa towarzyszy międzynarodowemu triennale regionu karpackiego "Silver Quadrangle", organizowanemu w tym roku po raz ósmy przez Galerię Sztuki Współczesnej w Przemyślu, i prezentuje prace artystów z regionów granicznych państw tworzących region karpacki: Polski, Rumunii, Słowacji, Ukrainy i Węgier. Również w tym roku praktykowany od lat projekt otwiera granice i demonstruje wolność sztuki, która działa inspirująco nie tylko na inne kręgi artystyczne, ale również zbliża ludzi. To sztuka, dzięki której artyści otwierają się na świat, ale która jednocześnie zmienia świat i sprawia, że staje się otwarty na to, co nowe. dr Alexandra Sucrow, Paderborn historyk sztuki PaderArt Art from Paderborn The intense cultural relationship existing between Paderborn and Przemyśl is already many years old and is supported consistently and effectively by both cities. Multiple artists have visited the partner town to present their work and provide new impetus for the local art scene. This is how many Polish and German artists have met. The relationships established have yielded several joint projects and close friendships, these embracing ever greater numbers through the personal involvement of the interested parties and the globalization of human contact, a phenomenon characteristic of our time. Each instance of such contact is persuasive proof of the extensive opportunities brought about by a harmonious and constructive collaboration. Through the variety of the genres of art presented, the exhibition accompanied by this catalog has drawn to Przemyśl not only old acquaintances, but also new faces. Paderborn would like to present
the diversity of its young art in the partner town. For this purpose, the works of fifteen artists from the banks of Pader river have been gathered. Wolfgang Brenner, Manfred Claes-Schaefers, Andreas Eikenberg, Renate Kastner, Kornelia Kopriva, Jörg Lütkemeier, Maria-Margaretha Modlmayr, Hyazinth Pakulla, Werner Schlegel, Christine Steuernagel, Petra Stöppel, Christina Strunz, Johannes Waldemade, Manfred Webel and Juan Zamalea present their photographs, drawings, paintings and works making use of various graphic techniques, objects cut from plastics, and collages constituting a free combination of materials and techniques. The works share a common feature: they present life, a development, blooming, the joy of existence. The artists, with the aid of metaphorical and abstract motifs, express a vision of a universe - of planets, and specifically the human as an individual being, a testimony to the active affirmation of life, as well as constant transformations in nature and primeval movement. Other themes of the exhibition, however, are development and civilization, things built with human hands and the technologies created and applied by people, these not only providing motifs and content for the art, but also offering artificial materials and modern technical potential for expression of creativity. The artists depict an affirmative image of our being, a global view going beyond the boundaries of societies, countries and planets, with this naturally having no lack of earnest, reflexive, even meditative accents. It is an image which lives here and now, but at the same time allows us to look at what was in the beginning, at the changes and growth which write the history of our life. Despite their diversity, the works of art presented at the exhibition constitute a perfect unity and convincingly - both in terms of visuals and subject matter - document the harmony of coexistence, the variety ofindividualities which ought also to be a purpose of human life. The exhibition accompanies Silver Quadrangle, the international triennial art event of the Carpathian region, held this year for the eighth time by the Modern Art Gallery in Przemyśl. It presents the work of artists from border regions of countries comprising the Carpathian region, specifically Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and Hungary. This time too, the project, now practised for a number of years, manages to open borders and demonstrates the freedom of art, which not only inspires other artistic circles, but also allows people to grow closer. Wolfgang Brenner draws, takes photos, writes, paints, leaves marks, mounts, arranges, finds material, leaves traces. He experiments, but still follows traditional aesthetic styles and thus sketches out his own artistic language. In his art, he materializes his perception of this world as well as of his own surreal imagination. Those works contain all sorts of contradictions: the realistic as well as the poetic, the earnest and the cheerful, philosophic and ordinary, the transient and the seemingly timeless, meaningful as well as banal things. Exploring the works of Wolfgang Brenner means to start an aesthetic journey, it means to experiment with thoughts and imaginary pictures, to try out interpretations as well as just leave uninterpretable things stand as they are. Artysta posługuje się aparatem fotograficznym GameboyTM, którym wykonuje wielkopikselowe czarno-białe zdjęcia cyfrowe, następnie drukuje je na odpowiedniej drukarce w formacie 20 12 mm, skanuje i powiększa na komputerze do pożądanego formatu. Ze względu na niewielką rozdzielczość materiału wyjściowego dochodzi do ekstremalnego odrealnienia motywów. Dzięki temu efektowi powstają zdjęcia, na których znane motywy wydają się być obce, częściowo powodują konsternację, częściowo zaskakują nowym obliczem. Podobnymi metodami Eikenberg posługuje się przy obróbce tradycyjnych fotografii cyfrowych. Podstawę stanowią "zwykłe" zdjęcia z urlopu i fotografie wykonane niejako mimochodem lub motywy sfotografowane z myślą o dalszej obróbce. W tym wypadku wyżej opisane, ekstremalne odrealnienie uzyskiwane jest dzięki zastosowaniu rozmaitych technik obróbki. Artyście udaje się w ten sposób podać w wątpliwość bezkrytyczną recepcję codziennego strumienia obrazów, a tym samym skłonić do ich bardziej świadomego odbioru. Born in 1968 in Hannoversch Münden; studied German philology, media sciences and art in the years 1991-8 in Paderborn. Since 1996 a member of the association Raum für Kunst, Kötterhagen, Kamp 21. Andreas Eikenberg's favorite technique is experimental photography. The artist utilizes a Gameboy camera to take a large-pixel black-and-white digital photo, then prints this with an appropriate printer in 20 12 mm format, scans it and magnifies it in a computer to the required size. Due to the
low resolution of the input material, the motifs photographed look extremely unreal. This produces pictures in which familiar motifs seem alien, in part confusing, in part surprising for their new look. Eikenberg resorts to similar methods when processing traditional digital photos. The input material is 'normal' holiday snaps and photos taken casually as it were, or motifs photographed with further processing in mind. In this case the extremely unreal quality described is achieved with the use of varied processing techniques. This is how the artist seeks to question the uncritical reception of the daily influx of images, and thus encourage a more conscious relationship to them. Manfred Claes-Schaefers, born in 1950 in Paderborn, gained an education as a photographer and continued his studies at the faculty of visual communication in Bielefeld. Since 1975 he has worked as a graphic designer (e.g. logos for Leonardo, Maxi Cosi) and freelance painter / illustrator. His output has encompassed individual exhibitions, designs and photographs with landscape motifs, abstract painting, object and metaphorical painting and mixed techniques in chalk, oil or watercolor, as well as photorealism both on canvas and on wood and glass. The artist especially favors drawings in pencil, crayon, Indian ink and chalk. He addresses political and religious topics and presents them in a symbolic, sometimes exaggerated manner, giving them again a topical quality; the same applies to the provocative works on

To, że wykonuję mój obecny zawód, jest raczej kwestią przypadku. Właściwie zawdzięczam to mojej teściowej, która w jednym ze studiów portretu w swoim mieście zapytała o możliwość odbycia praktyki, i w ten sposób zacząłem uczyć się zawodu fotografa. Wcześniej pracowałem w wielu innych branżach: rozpocząłem naukę w zawodzie fryzjera i wychowawcy, ale jej nie ukończyłem, sprzątałem, pracowałem przy segregacji odpadów i w branży szklanej. Zarabiałem również jako pomocnik piekarza, didżej, trener salsy i muzyk. Wszystkie te doświadczenia pomagają mi dzisiaj w realizacji projektów fotograficznych. Moja praca skupia się przede wszystkim na człowieku. Nieważne, czy mam do czynienia z portretem czy modelingiem, zdjęcia mają opowiadać historie ludzi. Historie, które trafią do oglądających. My being a photographer is more of an accident than anything else. As a matter of fact, it happened because of my mother-in-law, who inquired at a portrait studio in her town about the opportunity for an internship. This is how I began to learn photography. Before that, I had done many different jobs: I started learning the trade of hairdresser and school tutor, but did not finish. I cleaned, worked in waste segregation and in the glass industry. I also made a living as a baker's assistant, a DJ, a salsa trainer and a musician. All of these experiences help me today in my photographic projects. My work is focused on the human being above all. Regardless of whether I am working on portraits or modeling jobs, the pictures must tell the stories of the people. Stories which will touch the onlookers. The protagonists are actors, artists, musicians, models, people from the street and from my neighborhood.
