The new school year is in full swing now. The classes have started and our e-linguaton platform has successfully been implemented. Despite some teething problems, your feedback so far has been very favourable. The motivation is high, and so is the spirit of all of us. May it be a very fruitful and rewarding year, one which will mark a true progress in your command of English both in speaking and in writing. We are happy to be together this year, since it is a very special moment in the history of Linguaton. This year we are celebrating our twentieth anniversary. The highlights of these celebrations will come in December with a release of a short film (our second) and a concert (more details soon). You can find out more about the story of Linguaton from a short article. We also publish a short description of the functions of elinguaton (in Polish) for all our course participants. Linguaton s Staff THE MOST WANTED LIST Aneta Janiszewska being in charge of the school for 20 years conspiring with IT people in order to implement blended learning, and eventually spreading it across the Linguaton community relocating the school five times and never having enough pursuing excellence and depriving others from sleep Adam Janiszewski telling cheesy jokes time and again conducting Legal English courses without a licence from the Bar Association running conversational classes and requiring students to do some written work making tattoos on his body with board markers instead of using them to write on the whiteboard Iwka Janiszewska spreading the love of the English language among middle and secondary school students using all available tricks of the trade to keep their motivation high largely against their will dancing flamenco in class and swinging majestically among tables during tests demonstrating excellent class management skills without an MBA degree Monika Janiszewska-Ziemba showing a great deal of affection to her children and liking them more than her colleagues accepting hand-made gifts as tokens of appreciation organising the work of the youngest students in the whole school showing a lot of patience when dealing with her ADHD afflicted students Bartek Ziemba timing every class activity to the second and not allowing others to have second thoughts exerting so much pressure that all sweets disappear from the reception instantly imposing stringent rules and punishing noncompliant students mercilessly flooding his students with hundreds of vocabulary sheets and making them memorize all of them IF YOU KNOW WHY, WE KNOW HOW

They now have to change the scale of grades to include amazing results of her students who take the secondary school final exam in English (Matura)!!!! hiding her theatrical talents and never directing any plays at Linguaton Ania Ui Fhionnáin being the first to use Speakout active teach (i.e. putting others to shame) making adults love English more than their partners a potential cause of divorces luring adults into this love trap with a peaceful and tranquil aura around her making our e-linguaton website more studentfriendly than it really is Bożena Bokiniec bringing gourmet food to Linguaton parties and making some of the teachers seriously consider going on a diet causing serious demographic problems in Poland: equipped with a good command of English, her students can now easily live and work abroad Małgorzata Zanni instilling the principles of good conduct in her junior students this is the job of a parent, not a teacher throwing her students into deep water and telling them to dive before they have learnt how to swim being open and showing emotions, which is contrary to the stereotypic British culture

Robert Bubczyk knowing far too many historical facts and exposing the school to the risk of being spied on holding so many university degrees that make us all feel uneducated being always calm and composed, even when there are obvious reasons for getting irritated Karolina Osuch introducing the Swan Lake tactics in her classes where everyone feels special raising the bar too high for her colleagues by always being on time, and always keeping her classroom clean and tidy being a distraction to her students some of them learn English because they like Karolina a lot. Preposterous! Filip Stoma teaching his students how to treat patients in English and with English manners working in far too many places and holding various positions: doctor, manager, and teacher are there two Filips in Lublin? always getting things on time and never being in a hurry Kasia Ostrowska bringing in so much energy that makes power distributors feel scared of their future wearing colourful tights which match her mood and other items of clothing being over-excited about introducing the world of English to her 6-year old pupils having too many ideas and wondering why a day can t be longer than 24 hours Jacek Steinbrich causing draught in the classroom by waving his hands around in order to explain the nuances of the English grammar some have already gone down with a common cold making the Irish success story come true at Linguaton this is a risky political statement as we all know that Poland is not another Ireland or Japan for that matter Sabina Dymel knowing words others can only look up in a dictionary becoming a successful teacher faster than provided by relevant legislation owning the cutest and most fashionable laptop bag being ambitious and hard working, which may lead to the rat race among Linguaton teachers

THE STORY OF LINGUATON A tiny school at Toczyskiego 14 A bigger school at Parysa 91 An even bigger one at Rogińskiego 41 Linguaton s branch at Złota 6 The current school at Paśnikowskiego 41 Unlike Bill Gates Microsoft, which started in a garage, the first classes of Linguaton were held in the loft of a small house at Toczyskiego 14. The year was 1992, and there was a lot going on around. Sweeping changes went across Poland, and the Founding Fathers of Linguaton Aneta and Adam did not want to stay on the side and watch. They decided to act. Linguaton became one of the first private language schools in Lublin. From the outset, it was a family venture. The slogan of the school IF YOU KNOW WHY, WE KNOW HOW and the logo an artistic travesty of a Celtic cross were coined a few months later. A year later the school moved to the premises of Adam Stanowski Secondary School in ul. Leonarda. But sharing the same classrooms with others is not the same as having your own space. In 1996 there were so many students willing to learn English that the school moved to a fairly spacious place in Parysa 91. There were 4 classrooms and a huge hall a perfect place for Linguaton parties. It was where the first Christmas party was held and where the idea of theme events got off the ground. At that time the majority of Linguaton students came from Lublin universities, and most of them were interested in taking Cambridge exams (FCE, CAE, and CPE). Linguaton was also the first school in Lublin to offer in-company Business English courses. Poland continued to change, and the demand for English continued to rise. In November 1999 Linguaton obtained a building permit for a new school at Rogińskiego 41. The new school, opened in 2000, was finally what Aneta had always wanted very cosy interiors, and a nice garden with a gazebo for May parties. The building itself looked like a half-timbered house imported straight from Stratford-on-Avon. Students flooded the school again, and again new teachers joined Linguaton staff. The years at Rogińskiego 41 were marked with lots of extracurricular activities. Many people from the UK, US, Canada, and Australia visited Linguaton delivering lectures, holding informal talks or attending garden parties. The gala to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Linguaton attracted representatives of the US Embassy and Tomasz Szwed who gave a concert in the open air. The most memorable were events entitled The Roaring Sixties, Movies Galore, and the Reggae Night. As they say at Linguaton, We work hard and we play hard. In the years 2002 2008 Linguaton offered courses also in Lublin s Old Town. The school at ul. Złota 6 was mostly attended by students and adult learners. Many Linguaton alumni hold important positions in the world of business and finance. The school owes much of its success to its teachers whose creativity, pursuit of excellence in teaching, and commitment are like magnets. In the course of the last two decades some 50 teachers have taught at Linguaton including native speakers from Ireland, Canada, Australia, and the US. Our teachers also work in the UK as language instructors and course managers ambassadors of Linguaton abroad. In September 2006 Linguaton moved to its current premises at ul. Paśnikowskiego 41 one of the two buildings in Poland designed specifically for a language school and built from scratch. Finally, the school could accommodate the ever growing number of course participants. The new school gave an impetus to develop a new website, and with the appearance of the first e-linguaton platform created by one of our teachers to fully implement the blended learning method. You can now learn English using Linguaton resources 24/7 and wherever you are. In 2007 Linguaton established cooperation with ETS offering international examinations to its students and in 2012 became an authorised test centre for TOEIC and TOEFL. A large percentage of Linguaton s students are now young learners and children. Linguaton has become a place where people of all ages and from various walks of life can acquire, improve, and perfect their language skills. And while changing with the times, it continues to pursue its mission: achieving excellence in teaching and helping others spread their wings and succeed in life.
