General Database of Polish Geosites Geosites are part of geological heritage related to the issues of geodiversity protection, essential also in scientific, cultural and historical terms. The Polish Central Register of Geosites gathers information about the most valuable inanimate objects in Poland, such as single and multiple denudation structures, rocks, erratic blocks, karst and weathered landforms as well as other geological objects. The Internet application (The application is available only in Polish.) for this database allows the user to search for geosites according to the predefined criteria, for instance an administrative region (voivodeship) and type or rank of the site. As a result, the user receives basic information about the object, such as its location (including GPS coordinates) and travelling directions as well as its geological description, photographs, explanatory illustrations and bibliography. The Polish Central Register of Geosites is a popular science service run by the Central Geological Database of the PGI NRI.
apia9 General Database of Polish Geosites The aim of creating General Database of Polish Geosites gathering information about existing objects of geology - "geosites - places that are valuable in terms of geological characteristics in order to preserve them from degradation. facilitating access to information about inanimate objects to national administration offices on different levels during their work on protecting inanimate objects Updating and supplementing the General Database of Polish Geosites Destiny The information contained in GDPG, which is important from the standpoint of science, culture and history, will apply to the work of the units of state administration and local governments, as well as organizations and associations dealing with nature conservation. The following pieces of information will be available: the location of an object, the possibility of accessing the site, the geological characteristics of the object, photo gallery and bibliography of the geosites as well as the geological value of the site. All this in order to preserve the national treasure from degradation. The users Giving access to the information included in CRGP on the allows universal access to the information on geo-diversity of a country, of a region or of a local spot. The search engine provided, is constructed in such a way, that it allows a wide range of subject research to a common user. All users can benefit from the information, from state administration officials to private persons.

apia11 General Database of Polish Geosites Methodology of collecting the database When filling in the documentation cards the Authors, in most cases, have advanced dictionaries at their disposal, other spaces are filled in according to the specification of a certain geosite. The documentation card is filled in according to the adopted criteria and after its verification, a permission to send it to the Central Database Server is signaled. One of the control elements of the database is the "window reports ", which show the input status number, the author, the date of application, the date of information input and corrections dates, etc.

apia12 Main Menu: General Database of Polish Geosites What sort of informations is collected General Information; Physical characteristics; Geological characteristics; Current status; Graphic documentation; Author of documentation; Bibliography An application used to send the data also fulfils the role of the local database serving to gather and to store information on geosites The first page of the application, the top of the page has a bookmark with the keyword menu. Once you have filled in each of the spaces given, the respective geosite documentation card is created. A printable version of the " geosite documentation card " in.pdf format.
