From the Pastor s Desk. This weekend we have some difficult readings. The prophet Ezekiel tells us that if we do not dissuade a wicked man from his way, we will be held responsible. Similarly Jesus speaks about fraternal correction: A daunting task, particularly when a person considers his own sins, his own need for correction St. Francis addressed this issue. A man approached him and said, "Brother Francis, I am in a quandary. In the Bible it says we should rebuke sinners, but I see people sinning all the time. I don't feel like I should go around rebuking everybody.".. St. Francis thought and then said, "What you must do is live in such a way that your life rebukes the sinner - how you act will call others to repentance.".. You might be thinking, "That's easy enough for St. Francis, but I am not saint." Well, it may not be so complicated as you imagine. Once a man went into a restaurant and the waitress placed him at a table next to three girls. They were talking loud and swearing. It sometimes seems like women's equality means imitating the worst in men. The man wanted to say something, but he held his tongue. When his breakfast arrived, he bowed his head and made of the sign of the cross. The swearing stopped I think you see what I am saying. We do not need to go around constantly correcting others, but we do need to be watchmen. We will in some way be held responsible if we see others falling into destruction and we do nothing. Fr. On Wednesday, August 24, St. Bruno School opened its doors welcoming students back for the first day of school. Mrs. Linane s 5 th graders were especially excited when they realized they are sharing their classroom with 3 lizards and a frog! These classroom pets will really bring our science curriculum to life. In addition to science, the 5 th graders are anxious to begin reading The Chocolate Touch, and are ready to conquer fractions, adverbs, writing, and learning about our nations brave pioneers. Also, the St. Bruno students will be attending and participating in the 8:00 AM mass every Monday during the school year, we hope you will join us! W minioną środę, 24 sierpnia, rozpoczął się Nowy Rok Szkolny w naszej Szkole Parafialnej. Uczniowie klasy 5, której wychowawczynią jest Pani Linane, byli szczególnie zaskoczeni i podekscytowani, gdyż zobaczyli iż mają gości w swojej klasie: trzy jaszczurki i jedną żabę! Te "klasowe zwierzątka" przyniosą wiele wiedzy na temat "życiowego programu". Dodatkowo, uczniowie 5 klasy rozpoczną czytanie "The Chocolate Touch i są gotowi do zdobywania wiedzy o ułamkach, przysłówkach, pisaniu oraz uczeniu się o dzielnych narodowych pionierach. Również uczniowie naszej szkoły będą uczestniczyć w ciągu całego roku szkolnego w Mszy Szkolnej, która będzie odprawiana w poniedziałki. Zapraszamy wszystkich do uczestniczenia razem z nami! El miércoles, 24 de Agosto, la escuela de San Bruno abrió sus puertas de nuevo para la bienvenida a los estudiantes del primer día de clases. Los estudiantes del 5º grado, de la maestra Linane estaban emocionados sobre todo cuando se dieron cuenta de que están compartiendo su salon con tres lagartos y una rana! Estas "mascotas de la clase" realmentellevan a nuestro currículo de ciencias a la vida. PREPARING FOR THE NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS The Liturgy of the Eucharist On the First Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011, Catholic parishes in the United States will begin praying the texts of the Mass using a new English translation of The Roman Missal. This week, we explore the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We begin by preparing the altar for the holy sacrifice to come. In the Prayer over the Gifts we get ready to offer ourselves and our lives together with the bread and wine so that we too might be transformed by God. In the Preface Dialogue we declare that it is right and just to give thanks to the Lord our God, and in the Preface we proclaim the reasons that we give God our thanks and praise. Then comes the great Eucharistic Prayer by which we render our thanks and praise to God the Father. As we recall what Jesus said and we do what he did at the Last Supper, God transforms the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ, and we pray that we will also be transformed by the Eucharist we celebrate and receive. Now, SVdP is seeking the support of the community for its biggest fundraiser The Friends of the Poor Walk. The Friends of the Poor Walk take place at two locations on two separate days in September. The first walk takes place on Sept 24, 2011 from 8 a.m. to noon at Lake Katherine, 7402 W. Lake Katherine Drive, Palos Heights. The second walk takes place on Sept 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at DePaul University, 2250 N. Sheffield Ave., Chicago. The funds raised through the Friends of the Poor Walk stay in the local community to assist with programs and services for the poor and underprivileged, said Frieda Bertello, executive director of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago. Some of the needy individuals we serve walk several miles to receive help. There is strength in numbers, and we want to show our neighbors in need that we are here to help.
