We are grateful to our parishioners and we welcome our guests who visit us this weekend. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS SUNDAY AUGUST 12 Coffee Hour after the Masses MONDAY AUGUST 13 7:30 p.m. North East Freedom AA Group meeting (Auditorium) SUNDAY AUGUST 19 Coffee Hour after the Masses Live the Liturgy - Inspiration for the Week Life can be confusing, and the demands and challenges of everyday life can easily cloud our vision. We can become tired. Because of all of the energy needed to manage our day-to-day routines, our spiritual lives can get neglected. Anger, apathy, bitterness, and competition readily distort our relationships with one another and with God. We are asked to imitate God and to put love, compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and gentleness over all things. We need to develop a strong life of prayer in order to bring balance to our lives and to realize who we really are. Everyday Stewardship Recognize God in Your Ordinary Moments What else is there to give when one has already given away their body and their life? What more can one say or do to demonstrate love for another when all they have has been given to another? This total giving of self to loved ones cannot be trumped by flowery words or material gifts that are fleeting. This is the ultimate in love. This is the love Jesus had for us on the way to His passion, at the institution of the Holy Eucharist. This is the love He has for us daily in the celebration of the Mass on altars in every church, in every city, in every nation on earth. No one can give more. No one can ask for more. This is the true heart of Christian Stewardship. If you take the time to gaze upon your God in the simplest of forms and begin to reflect on what has actually taken place with Bread and Wine becoming the presence of the Divine, then you can begin to understand true humility, sacrifice, and love. And when you have the privilege to take that Real Presence into your body at the meal where you are an honored guest, you become one with the One who is the embodiment of stewardship. Then, you must ask the question of yourself, "How can I even begin to reflect the love that I have encountered at this feast?" The answer is you can begin with the simple actions of the day: where will you go, whom will you meet, and in what work will you partake? Jesus Christ has shown that the greatest gift ever given can be disguised in this world in a Piece of Bread. By joining your body to His, He can now transform human hearts, not by grand acts, but by everyday acts, by everyday people practicing Everyday Stewardship.

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time Have you ever approached a hushed group and were certain they were talking about you? It's an uncomfortable feeling to catch people murmuring about what you did, said, or didn't do. It breeds division and exclusion. In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to just the opposite. The reading opens with the crowds "murmuring" their doubts about Jesus after He has proclaimed Himself the Bread of Life. "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? how can He say 'I have come down from heaven'?" In His response, Jesus brings up the Israelites and the manna God brought them in the desert. If you turn back to the story in Exodus, you'll see another similar word: murmuring. As the going got tough, the Israelites doubted Moses and God's plan to protect and care for them as a chosen people. Here, Jesus proposes a difficult theological concept. Jesus Himself is "the Living Bread" and "Flesh for the Life of the World." This is not an exclusive concept. "Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from Him comes to Me." Why? Because "the Father who sent Me draw[s] Him." The next time you're at Mass, take a few moments to watch the communion line. Young and old, families and singles, diverse races and cultures and stories; we are all drawn to the Eucharistic table. Catholic doctrine may require faith, but it is a faith possible for anyone who seeks truth. Christianity does not hide behind locked doors in an exclusive clubhouse, whispering behind the backs of nonbelievers. Jesus compels us to share the love of God the Father for His children, that we one day be joined with Him and "live forever." Thank YOU! Dear Parishioners, Every year on the first weekend of August, our parish celebrates its Polish roots with the St. Stanislaus Kostka Polish Arts Festival. It is a great event for us in our parish. The festival is a lot of work. It takes many dedicated, hardworking people to organize, prepare for and work at for it to be successful. Without these volunteers, the festival would not be possible. Although the festival was sprinkled with the waters from the sky above on Friday and Saturday but thanks be to God for sunny weather during Festival. To the Festival Committee, I extend words of thanks and deep gratitude. Thank you for organizing this event and the great work that you did. A sincere thank you to all the booth captains and their team of volunteers. Thank you to the Parish Staff. Thank you to those who put up the many booths and worked on the electricity, lighting and sound system. A very sincere thank you and deep appreciation to those who worked in the kitchen for your heavy and exhausting work, fatigue and great dedication to the festival. Thank you to all those who made and prepared the pierogi, stuffed cabbage, sausage chrusciki. Thank you to the Team of potato pancakes and the Teams of burgers and other delicious goodies and to those who brought fresh vegetables and fruits. My sincere gratitude to those who sold raffle tickets and worked at the many games for adults and children. A big thank you to those who sold souvenirs and other items that highlight the Polish heritage. Words of gratitude are also extended to all the valiant volunteers who came in the very early morning hours on Sunday to clean the church grounds and put away all the festival equipment. O godzinie 11:00 rano będziemy obchodzić Uroczystość Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej. Wniebowzięcie NMP Poświęcenie Ziół i Kwiatów! Piękną Polską tradycją i zwyczajem religijnym jest poświęcenie ziół i kwiatów w uroczystość Wniebowzięcia Matki Bożej zwanej też Matką Bożą Zielną. Wierni przynoszą do kościołów artystycznie ułożone, barwne bukiety. Święcenie ziół ma podkreślać, że człowiekowi potrzebna jest ozdrowieńcza moc natury. Wiele osób pamięta ten piękny zwyczaj. Msza Święta w języku polskim odbędzie we Środę 15-go Sierpnia o godzinie 7:00 wieczorem. Zapraszamy Parafian do udziału we Mszy Świętej i podtrzymanie tego pięknego zwyczaju. Congratulations to the Festival Raffle Winners: Sister Dismas, Eugene Antczak, Andy Antczak, Pat Coté, Deborah Link, Bob Brady, Sue Altpeter and Anne Smalline. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary This feast is a very old solemnity in the church. It has been celebrated throughout the church from the sixth century on. Originally celebrated in the East, the ancient title is the Dormition of Mary, or the Falling Asleep of Mary. The earliest writing we find of this feast is from the fourth century and it is written in the voice of St. John, whom Jesus entrusted Mary to the care of as he hung upon the cross. The teaching is that Mary was assumed into heaven after her "falling asleep in the Lord" before her body suffered any decay. This doctrine of the church--even though the church has been celebrating this belief for centuries--was not declared a dogma until November 1, 1950 by Pope Pius XII. While the Eastern Orthodox call this event the "dormition," the Roman Catholic Church calls it the Assumption. Roman Catholicism is silent on the details of the Assumption. Therefore, Roman Catholics legitimately can believe that Mary did not die before the Assumption. The holy day has always been celebrated in the church on August 15. Many may remember (and may have even visited) the beautiful church at the corner of Clifford and Hudson Ave., the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer. The alumni representing the classes from 1959 thru the mid-70s, who attended Holy Redeemer Grammar school, are having a reunion the weekend of Aug. 18-19 th. Sadly, their church and school closed about 40 years ago. Since we were their neighbors, they wanted to celebrate their special memories and pay tribute to their heritage here with their Hudson Avenue neighbors. They will be here for the 9:00 Mass on August 19 th. Please extend a warm St. Stanislaus Kostka welcome to our former neighbors! It s NO Picnic for the Poor Many of us enjoy the summer months with picnics and other gatherings but the poor are praying that they will have food to put on their table. You can help them have an indoor picnic by bringing in at least one food item each week. Here are the foods that the Sr. Regis Food Cupboard needs the most: spaghetti sauce, oatmeal, chicken soup, crackers, juice and canned corn. Extra special food items that would be greatly appreciated are: canned mixed vegetables, boxes of mashed potatoes, canned fruit, jelly, macaroni, canned ravioli and tuna fish. CEREAL is ALWAYS tops on the list! FYI, the Dollar Tree has many of these items, especially juice. Altar Flowers The floral centerpiece at the main altar for this weekend Masses is offered in loving memory of Paul Tremmel, offered by his wife Lucretia.
