8 Our Faith CHRIST S PRESENCE IN THE WORLD There s a bit of a missing link in the first two sentences of today s Gospel from Mark. In the first, the apostles return from having been sent out on mission two by two ( one who is sent is the meaning of apostle ). Their instructions were to preach repentance, drive out demons, and heal the sick in Jesus name. In the second sentence, Jesus tells them to come away with him and rest a while. It would be nice for us to imagine that, between those two sentences, a look of amazed gratitude and pleasure crossed the face of Jesus as he hears of the kingdom proclaimed in his name, and how they didn t have to shake the dust off their feet anywhere. They deserved a rest! It might not be bad for us, when we gather together with Jesus as the apostles do today, to do this kind of debriefing, allowing the Lord to hear what we ve sought to do in his name, our successes, our failures, our need to get away with him for a while to be fortified for further work in God s name. For we, the baptized, are not only the flock of Jesus Christ; through water and the power of the Spirit we have also become the Body of Christ, the presence of the Shepherd for the life of the world. 9 Parish Life Religious Education Registration is now open for the year. If you have a child you would like to enroll in the program, you may pick up registration forms at the Parish Office or on-line at the Saint Thecla website. They should be returned to the Parish Office before the end of May so we can plan for next year. A copy of the Baptism certificate is required when you register. All those wishing to receive a sacrament (First Communion or Confirmation) must be in a program for two years prior to receiving the sacrament. Wstęp do liturgii słowa W pierwszym czytaniu będziemy świadkami wydarzenia, w którym Jeremiasz gani postępowanie złych pasterzy. Zamiast paść owce, oni rozproszyli je i doprowadzili do zguby. Święty Paweł w drugim czytaniu przedstawia Chrystusa, który jednoczy wszystko to co zostało rozdzielone przez zło. Chrystus przychodzi na ziemię dać pokój, pokój tym, którzy są blisko lub daleko, czyli całej ludzkości. Ewangelia dziś streszcza nam działalność Jezusa dobrego pasterza. Chrystus podkreśla, że skuteczne apostolstwo nie jest możliwe bez chwil wytchnienia obok Pasterza. Tylko przy nim można nabrać sił fizycznych i duchowych, które są niezbędne w drodze do nieba. Uroczysty charakter proroctwa wskazuje na nową erę, lecz czym właściwie jest ta era? Odpowiedź zależy w dużej mierze od sposobu pojmowania właściwego mesjanizmu oraz jego związku z eschatologią. Uważamy, że Jeremiasz mówił o mesjanizmie królewskim, który jest ściśle związany z historią. Nadchodzące szczęście nie jest wyznaczone na koniec czasów, lecz na koniec szczególnego okresu, który okazał się niepomyślny. Co więcej, proponowany tutaj mesjanizm jest niczym więcej jak wypełnieniem świętego panowania królewskiego, jako środka wybranego przez Jahwe do realizacji błogosławieństw przymierza - pokoju i sprawiedliwości jego ludu w Ziemi Obiecanej. 13
