7 Our Faith REDEMPTION Do you remember Peter on the night Jesus was arrested? He claimed he had never heard of Jesus. Today we are called to join Peter in testifying to the name of Jesus as he does in the first reading, and in proclaiming our love for him as Peter does in the Gospel passage. The powerful imagery of John s vision in the second reading from the book of Revelation shows us the company we keep when we have faith in the name of Jesus. We join all living creatures, countless in number from heaven, earth, under the earth, in the sea; everything in the universe (Revelation 5:11, 13). The dignity and majesty described in each reading are in stark contrast to the dark and pitiful image of Peter and the other apostles at the time of Jesus arrest, trial, and crucifixion. When Archbishop Cupich announced the Renew My Church initiative in January, he invited everyone in the Archdiocese of Chicago to participate in the process of revitalizing our parish communities. Just as Pope Francis asked Catholics across the globe for their input prior to the Synod of Bishops meetings in 2014 and 2015, Archbishop Cupich is asking for your help as the Archdiocese begins a new listening phase of this important effort. Please take time to respond to a survey designed to help Archbishop Cupich and the Archdiocese better understand the perspectives of Catholics across Cook and Lake Counties. Religious Education: Registration for year religious education classes take place through April and May. Registration forms are available at the parish office, on-line at the parish website or by rmazzoni@saintthecla.org. The forms are to be returned to the parish office prior the end of May which will help us plan for next year. A copy of the Baptism certificate is required when you register. All those wishing to receive a sacrament (First Communion or Confirmation) must be in a program for two years prior to receiving a sacrament. We also have opportunities for catechists and aides; so please consider giving of your time and talent to help pass on the faith to our young people. Jubilee Year of Mercy April 10, 2016 Third Sunday of Easter How appropriate today s Gospel for this Jubilee Year of Mercy, both because of the breakfast Jesus provides ( a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread ) and the number of fish in Peter s net ( one hundred fifty-three ) (John 21:11 12). Of the fish, Saint Augustine suggests that the roasted fish is the suffering Christ. Saint Gregory the Great adds that Christ lowered himself to swim in the water of our humanity; to be caught in the net of our death; to be roasted in his Passion on the fire of suffering. Saint Jerome claims that one hundred fifty-three represents the full number of known species of fish, signifying that the Church s net has room for all our widely diverse humanity, securing our unity-in-diversity in the hands of Peter and his successors. Having received God s mercy as the beating heart of the Gospel, may the Church we pattern [our] behavior after the Son of God who went out to everyone without exception (Misericordiae Vultus, 12). 10 Mass Intention Book for 2017 The 2017 Mass Intention book will open on Thursday, April 28th. To be fair and to meet the needs of all our parishioners at this initial opening you may have no more than 5 single Mass intentions. We have many dates available for collective intentions; an individual Mass intention is for one person only. For example: +John Doe; the cross before the name indicates the person is deceased. Collective Mass intentions means more than one person but the list usually will not exceed 15 names per Mass. Listing several names from a single family would go on a collective intention not an individual Mass intention. However a deceased husband and wife are considered one intention. When are the collective Mass intentions? Every Sunday at 10:00am and 11:30am (Polish). Every other Friday 8:30am Mass and every other Saturday 5:00pm Mass. Mass intentions are not taken on special holydays (Holy Week) and some holidays (Easter, Mother s Day, Father s Day, All Souls Day, Thanksgiving, The Immaculate Conception, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day). On these days the intention is for all the parishioners. A couple celebrating a wedding anniversary is accommodated as a special intention even on Masses that are designated as single intention. Naleýy dzwoniæ do sekretariatu parafialnego w godzinach od 2-7 po po³udniu pn., wt., czw. i pt. jest dostêpna osoba mówiàca po polsku. Moýna intencje przes³aæ pocztà, do³àczyæ kopertê w czasie Niedzielnej Mszy ªw. Z wyraþnym zaznaczeniem imion i daty oraz donacji. Wymagany jest 2 tygodniowy czas poprzedzajàcy intencje. Intencje sà publikowane w koºcielnym biuletynie. Intencje sà przyjmowane tylko w biurze parafialnym. Przypominamy, ýe intencje nie sà przyjmowane w Zachrystii przed Mszà ªwiêtà lub po Mszy ªwiêtej. Thankfully, Catholic Charities has a network of food pantries for anyone in crisis. We also distribute food to women, infants, children, and seniors; deliver meals to the home-bound; and give summer lunches to poor children. At our supper programs, thousands who are hungry or homeless are comforted with warm meals in the company of friendly faces. The tuition scholarship granted for a new family will be carried forward to the school year at 50% of the initial award up to $1,000 for an enrolled family.
