GB Caution For the user s own safety, this BGF converter must be connected to an approved earth ( terminal). It is imperative that the equipment is supplied via an isolating device and a circuit-breaking device (power contactor) which can be controlled by an external safety system (emergency stop, fault detector). The BGF unit is fi tted with safety devices which, in the event of a fault, control stopping. Voltage fl uctuations and power cuts may also cause the unit to stop. The removal of the causes of the shutdown can lead to restarting, which may be dangerous for certain machines or installations. In such cases, it is essential that the user takes appropriate precautions against the unit powering up again after an unscheduled stop. The BGF unit is a component designed to be integrated in an installation or an electrical machine. It is the responsibility of the user to take all necessary precautions to ensure that the system complies with current standards. 7 Technical Data GB The BGF is the physical association of a 3-phase transformer and a 3-phase or single-phase frequency inverter. In the standard version, the BGF unit does not require any connection other than the power supply. The options may be used to broaden the application range of the BGF unit. 9 Machine Installation GB It is the responsibility of the owner or user to ensure that the installation, operation and maintenance of the inverter and its options comply with legislation relating to the safety of personnel, animals and equipment, and with the current regulations of the country of use. Before carrying out any work, disconnect and lock the inverter power supply. For the single-phase range, wait 2 minutes to make sure that the capacitors have discharged. After connection, ensure that the seals are fi rmly in place, and that the screws and cable glands are watertight to ensure IP 65 protection. Clear any condensation from the drain holes at the bottom of the motor. The transformer forced ventilation cools the whole assembly. Make sure that the ventilation air inlet is free of obstruction. The positions of the control/cable gland supports are specifi ed at the time of ordering. However they may be reversed if necessary. Reversing The Supports 1) Undo the 2 TORX 20 + slot type screws and remove the cover. 2) Remove the control knob and the cable gland support fastening screws (TORX 10 + slot type screws) TORX 10 screw + slot 3) Disconnect the layer from the P2 connector if an option is connected. 3 P2 4) Reverse the option and cable gland supports. 5) Reconnect the printed circuit layer on P2 and replace the fastening screws. 6) Replace the cover. 5 P2 4 The voltages on the power terminal blocks and the cables connected to them may cause fatal electric shocks. The inverter stop function does not protect against these high voltages. The inverter contains capacitors which remain charged at a fatal voltage even after the power supply has been cut off. After the inverter power supply has been cut off, wait for 2 minutes so that the internal circuits discharge the capacitors, before removing the protective covers (for the single-phase range). The inverter power supply must be protected against overloads and short-circuits. It is vital to respect the rating of protection devices. Connection with copper conductor only. 9

10 GB Machine Installation Wiring Precautions When the BGF unit is controlled remotely, avoid parallel routing of power cables and control cables. All remote control cables must be shielded and have a cross-section between 0.22mm 2 and 1mm 2. The shielding should be connected to earth at both ends. Check that the different earth points are actually at the same voltage. Incorporate a bend where the cables enter the cable glands so that water cannot penetrate the terminal box. Tighten the cable glands firmly. Radio Frequency InterferenceI Converters use high-speed switches (transistors/semi-conductors) which switch high voltages (around 550v for 3-phase inverters) at high frequencies (several khz). This provides better efficiency anda low level of noise. As a result they create radio-frequency signals which may disturb operation of other equipment or distort measurements taken by sensors. Due to high frequency leakage currents which escape to earth. By conduction or feedback of R.F. signals onthe power supply cable: conducted emissions. By direct radiation near to the mains supply power cable: radiated emissions. These phenomena are of direct interest to the user. The frequency range concerned (radio frequency) does not affect the energy distribution company. The maximum emission level is set by the generic industrial (EN ) and domestic (EN ) standards. The BGF conforms to standard: - EN as standard. The maximum immunity level isset by the genric industrial (EN ) and domestic (EN ) standards. The BGF conforms to standards: EN and EN as standard. Description of Cables and Protective Devices When using a circuit-breaker, it must be a motor circuit-breaker (D curve). Comply with the size of protection fuses. The cable size may vary according to legislation applicable in the country, which will take precedence over the values given in the table below without exception. 11 General Safety General Depending on their degree of protection, the BGF units may contain hot surfaces during operation. Unjustifi ed removal of protection devices, incorrect use, faulty installation or inappropriate operation could represent a serious risk to personnel, animals and equipment. For further information, consult the manual. All work relating to transportation, installation, commissioning and maintenance must be performed by experienced, qualifi ed personnel (see IEC 364 or CENELEC HD 384, or DIN VDE 0100 and national specifi cations for installation and accident prevention). In these basic safety instructions, qualified personnel means persons competent to install, mount, commission and operate the product and possessing the relevant qualifications. Use The BGF units are components designed for integration in installations or electrical machines. When integrated in a machine, commissioning must not take place until it has been verified that the machine conforms with directive 98/37/EC (Machinery Directive). It is also necessary to comply with standard EN 60204, which stipulates in particular that electrical actuators (which include The BGF unit) cannot be regarded as circuit-breaking devices and certainly not as isolating switches. Commissioning can take place only if the requirements of the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (89/336/EEC, modified by 92/31/ EEC) are met. The BGF units meet the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC, modifi ed by 93/68/EEC. The harmonised standards of the DIN VDE 0160 series in connection with standard VDE 0660, part 500 and EN 60146/ VDE 0558 are also applicable. The technical characteristics and instructions concerning the connection conditions specifi ed on the nameplate and in the documentation provided must be observed without fail. Transportation & Storage All instructions concerning transportation, storage and correct handling must be observed. The climatic conditions specifi ed in the technical manual must be observed. Installation The installation and cooling of equipment must comply with the specifi cations in the manual supplied with the product. The BGF units must be protected against excessive stress. In particular, there must be no damage to parts and/or modifi cation of the clearance between components during transportation and handling. Avoid touching the electronic components and contact parts. The BGF units contain parts which are sensitive to electrostatic stress and may be easily damaged if handled incorrectly. Electrical components must not be exposed to mechanical damage or destruction (risks to health!). Electrical Connection When work is performed on The BGF units which are powered up, national accident prevention specifi cations must be respected. The electrical installation must comply with the relevant specifi cations (for example conductor cross-sections, protection via fused circuit-breaker, connection of protective conductor). More detailed information is given in the manual. Instructions for an installation which meets the requirements for electromagnetic compatibility, such as screening, earthing, presence of filters and correct insertion of cables and conductors, are given in the documentation supplied with the BGF units. These instructions must be followed in all cases, even if the BGF unit carries the CE mark. Adherence to the limits given in the EMC legislation is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the installation or the machine. Operation Installations incorporating The BGF units must be fitted with additional protection and monitoring devices as laid down in the current relevant safety regulations : law on technical equipment, accident prevention regulations, etc. Modifi cation of the BGF units using control software are permitted. Active parts of the device and live power connections must not be touched immediately after the BGF unit is powered down, as the capacitors may still be charged. In view of this, the warnings fi xed to The BGF units must be observed. During operation, all protective covers must remain closed. Servicing and Maintenance Refer to the manufacturer s documentation. GB 11

12 GB Starting Instructions Before the BGF unit is powered up, check that the electrical connections are correct, and that any moving parts are mechanically protected. For the safety of personnel, the BGF must not be switched on with the protective cover removed. Starting - Power-up: Terminals 1 and 3 are connected. - Press the green button, and the unit starts as soon as it is released. Press the red button to stop. - 0/10V or 4/20mA (option). Starting with the speed control button option (BMA option) - Power-up: the green indicator lamp is lit continuously. As control terminals 1 and 3 (unlocking) are connected together, the BGF unit starts when the green button is pressed and stops when the red button is pressed. - Set the speed reference using the side control knob. The BGF unit with remote potentiometer option - Power-up: Terminals 1 and 3 are connected. - Press the green button, and the unit starts as soon as it is released. Press the red button to stop. - Set the reference using the 10 k. remote potentiometer. GB Operating The Machine Control knob with integrated run stop control option (BMA) In addition to frequency control, a run button and a stop button make it possible to control the BGF unit locally, once it has been switched on, as required. For a run command to be taken into account, the button must be held down for one second. Connected on the P2 connector. With 2 indicator lamps. Parameter-setting console option (CDC-VMA20) The console option provides access to the transformer internal settings (terminal block configuration, ramp settings, frequencies, voltage, etc). The software is compatible with WINDOWS 95, 98, NT and subsequent versions. Operating Principle This manual describes access to the parameter settings of the BGF converters range via a CDC-VMA 20 console or PEGASE VMA 20 PC software. Combined with the BGF converters, these tools are used for programming, diagnostics and displaying parameters. 12

14 GB Operating The Machine WARNING Parameter modifications must be made when the BGF is stopped. Read mode Connect the console to the BGF. Power up the BGF. On power-up, the console display is positioned on the 1st parameter P01 F-MIN. - The 1st line of the display indicates the parameter designation. - The 2nd line indicates the parameter value and its unit of measurement. - The key scrolls through the parameters. - The key is used for scrolling in the opposite direction. Parameter setting mode - To modify a setting, use the or keys to access the parameter. - The key is used to make the parameter, which is to be modifi ed, flash. - Modify the setting value with the or keys. - As soon as the value differs from the value memorised, the message M? appears. - When the desired setting value has been reached, it can be memorised using the key. MEM. - M? disappears from the display. - The key is used to quit parameter setting mode. Adjusting the MINI DIP Switches These switches are used to select the reference, the U/F ratio and the reference on the analogue input of Terminal 2. 20 GB Troubleshooting Guide Information relating to the status of the BGF unit is provided by 2 indicator lamps located on the BMA control option. Colour and State Reason for fault Checks to be performed Steady green No fault If the product is not delivering any voltage, check that: Mains present - terminals 1 and 3 are connected. - a run command has actually been enabled. Flashing green and red Current limiting Check that the BGF unit is not subjected to an overload or overcurrent. Flashing green Overload The product is overloaded: check the transformer current using a clamp ammeter (See Service & Maintenance section) Steady red Short-circuit of a Check that no incident has occurred winding. Switch off and then on again to clear the fault Faulty insulation If the fault remains, consult BELLE GROUP of a winding. I 2 t overheating. Internal fault. Flashing red Undervoltage. Check the mains voltage Overvoltage. Switch off and then on again Trips can be cleared by switching off the BGF. Faults are indicated ont he CDC-VMA console or on the PC/PEGASE VMA 20 software. With the PEGASE VMA 20 sofware, faults are indicated in plain text in the fault window. The table below can be used to analyse faults andspecifi es and checks which should be performed. Indication of the Fault Indication of the Fault Checks to make, possible causes CDC-VMA 20 PEGASE VMA 20 OK NO FAULT I2T MOTOR OVERHEATING - Check if the product is overloaded - Check the set rating and the BGF power. - Check that there is no short-circuit on a winding or on the connections. OVERCURRENT - Check the transformer insulation. OVER CURRENT - Check the set rating and the BGF power. - Internal fault in the product. UNDER VOLT. BUS UNDERVOLTAGE - Check the mains supply voltage. EEPROM EEPROM - Make sure that the BGF is not disturbed by interference - Internal fault in the product. RS 232 SERIAL LINK - Communication fault between the EEPROM and the micro-controller - product FAULT POSITION K2 FAULT POSITION K2 - Ensure that MINI DIP K2 is the ON position (0-10V) OVER LOAD OVERLOAD - Product overloaded, ensure that the rated power has not been exceeded. - Inverter in current limiting mode, ensure that the current required for the LIMIT I CURRENT LIMITING load is within the inverter limits (measured using the motor current clamp as described in the setup manual). ENABLE LOCKING - The inverter is disabled, check that there is a jumper between the terminals 1 and 3 to unlock it. FAULTS CAN ONLY BE CLEARED BY SWITCHING OFF THE BGF CONSOLE LINK FAULT FAULT SPECIFIC TO USE OF THE CDC-VMA 20 CONSOLE - Check the connection cable. COMMUNICATION PROBLEM WITH BGF FAULT SPECIFIC TO USE OF THE PEGASE VMA 20SOFTWARE - Check the connection cable. - Check that the BGF is supplied correctly. - Check that the serial port is confi gured correctly. 20
