It Takes a Parish. Remember the book written by Hilary Clinton a number of years ago entitled It takes a village? Well, in the case of our own small niche of Slavic Village we might say that in order for things to happen it takes a living and vibrant parish! Just look around at all the decorations up on the walls, suspended from the corbels, draping the choir loft and the altar. Look at the manger scene with its forest of trees and near life size statues. Look at the lights around the outside of the building scattered about the campus. It took a lot of hands hands of parishioners! Listen to the choir members and cantors at the various services over the season! English, Polish and Latin, all sung in praise of God, all meant to inspire those who prefer to listen, all serving as prayers for those who can t find the words to pray. It takes a lot of voices voices of parishioners! Look at the new additions to our church serving as memorials and gifts from individuals and organizations. The statues in the sanctuary and the votums in the shrine. These all serve to remind of heroic and kind deeds of many people living and deceased. These serve as reminders of prayers already answered. These items are the result of generosity the generosity of our hard working parishioners. We have all been given a lot and, thus, a lot is expected of us in turn. When we do things together, aside from getting to know each other and furthering the bonds within our community, we honestly do glorify God. The helpful hands and voices, the sharing of material wealth, together form a great prayer of praise to our Creator and Sustainer. The artistry displayed throughout the church, whether in visual art of statues, decorations or the like, or the aural art of music and word, is the result of our inner beauty and beliefs. The artistic product says something which often words fail to communicate. Now we look around and cannot imagine anything other than the truth of joy. We listen to music which brings back memories of Christmases past and dreams of days to come. We invite friends and family into our church to experience the very same simply because we are so proud of our place and traditions and hard work and faith. We are truly blessed blessed with beauty and with crosses. Together they have made us what we are. We wish each other Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we sincerely mean it! We want everyone to share the beauty and we want everyone to approach us if their crosses become too heavy. The manger set beneath the crucifixion of the same Lamb speaks volumes. May God grant all our parishioners and friends the grace to continue this journey in life under His guidance and the mercy to join all together with Him and each other after death. PASTORAL MESSAGE January 3 Stycznia 2010 Pastoral Message DECEMBER 26 GRUDNIA 2010 WHOSE FACE? Last week in the Plain Dealer, there was a wonderful and challenging story about a very human encounter. Recently in the Cleveland Clinic, the first ever face transplant operation done in the U.S. was performed on a woman who had been badly disfigured in an act of violence. She received the face of a woman whose death was unexpected, yet whose family knew she would want to help someone in need, even beyond death. So they consented to the donation of the face of their wife and mother. Now the two families finally met each other and shared their stories. They were astounded to find out how similar were the lives and values of the two women. Certainly that moment was deep and moving, and it also deserves a level of privacy between them. But I couldn t help but wonder, after this surgery, whose face is it now? Imagine losing your wife, your mother to an unexpected death and then seeing her face again on a living person. Or from the other side, imagine When you look at the face of baby Jesus, whose face do you really see? your wife, your mother painfully disfigured beyond recognition, and then with you again with an entirely new and different face. When you look upon that person, whose face do you really see? Is it the face of the one who donated it? Or the face of the one who received it? Jesus was born in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. The Gospel of John tells us, it is the Word made flesh. Whose flesh? When Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and magi, looked at the face of baby Jesus, whose face did they see? Whose face was it? Was it the face of a newborn baby? Or the face of God? Both. There is a saying from the ancient Christian world that says, God became human so that humans could become like God. The dogma of the Incarnation, which fascinated Saint Francis of Assisi and informs the imaginations of Franciscans to this day, reminds us the God is really and truly here in our midst. It is beyond our ability to truly appreciate what it means that God became one of us. Out of love, God freely chose to be right in the muck and mess of everyday human life, thereby showing us that there is no human experience that is beyond God s desire to touch us and be present to us. When you look at your own face in the mirror, whose face do you really see? Whose face is it? It is your face, and, yes, it is also the face of God. You yourself are also part of God s incarnation into the world. You yourself are also one who is sought to be present to others in the world. And when you look at the face of your parent, your spouse, your child, your neighbor, do you see the face of God there as well? If you look at the face of a poor person, of a criminal, of a cheater, or of a terrorist, can you see the face of God there as well? The angels announced peace on earth, and thousands of years later we are still looking for it. Maybe it s already here in some way, but we don t recognize the face. Fr. Michael Boże Oblicze Przy porannej lekturze The Plain Dealer trafiłem na artykuł mówiący o niezwyczajnym spotkaniu: mąż i dzieci dawczyni twarzy spotkali się z osobą, którą ją otrzymała. Możemy sobie wyobrazić spotkanie z obcą do tej pory kobietą, która ma twarz...własnej żony i matki. Nie tylko w sensie, że bardzo podobną, ale ma TĄ SAMĄ TWARZ. Twarz, którą oni tak dobrze znali. Jak zapewne pamiętamy, dwa lata temu miała miejsce pierwsza w USA operacja przeszczepu twarzy. Operacja odbyła się w Clevelandzkiej klinice. Zespołem lekarzy kierowała dr Maria Siemonow. Była to czwarta operacja na świecie, ale pierwsza pod względem tak rozległego obszaru twarzy (ok. 80 %). Przeszczep wymagał połączenia licznych kości, mięśni, nerwów i naczyń krwionośnych; dzięki operacji pacjentka odzyskała utraconą w wyniku wypadku szczękę wraz z podniebieniem, górną wargę, policzki, nos, powiekę dolną, a także odzyskała zdolność samodzielnego oddychania, mówienia i jedzenia (podaję za wikipedią). Spotkanie było bardzo emocjonalne. Jak wynika z relacji, na początku dawało się odczuwać zakłopotanie, nie wiadomo było, co powiedzieć, bo przecież i sytuacja niecodzienna, ale ono szybko minęło, dając miejsce łzom, śmiechowi, rozmowie. Rodzina dawczyni ze zdumieniem odkryła, jak wiele cech wspólnych łączy te dwie kobiety: ten sam rodzaj karnacji skóry, grupa krwi, bardzo podobne wykonywanie zajęcie, tylko 14 miesięcy różnicy w wieku, itp. Mąż i dzieci dawczyni widząc kobietę, która ma teraz twarz ich żony i matki, w jakiś sposób widzą ją samą - żonę i matkę. Jest to radosna nowina, że postęp w medycynie daje nadzieję nieszczęśliwym ludziom, jak Connie Culp, której mąż strzałem z pistoletu zmasakrował twarz. Ta radosna nowina jest okazją do myślenia o Radosnej Nowinie par excellence czyli o Ewangelii. Bóg stał się Bogiem z nami - Emanuelem. Odwieczne Słowo stało się Ciałem i narodziło się z Maryi. Pan Bóg nie tylko przyjął Ciało, ale także ludzką twarz: widząc Pana Jezusa widzimy Boga. Wysłuchał w ten sposób modlitwy pokoleń Izraelitów modlących się słowami Psalmów: Panie, Boże Zastępów, odnów nas i ukaż Twe pogodne oblicze, abyśmy doznali zbawienia. (Ps 80, 20) Narodzenie Pana Jezusa w Betlejem nie jest końcem wcielenia, ale raczej początkiem. Pan utożsamia się z Kościołem nauczającym (Łk 10, 16). Także z tym cierpiącym: Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Wszystko, co uczyniliście jednemu z tych braci moich najmniejszych, Mnieście uczynili. (Mt 25, 40). Pod koniec zaś ziemskiego życia, Pan Jezus w Wieczerniku powie do swoich Apostołów: Przykazanie nowe daję wam, abyście się wzajemnie miłowali tak, jak Ja was umiłowałem; żebyście i wy tak się miłowali wzajemnie. (J 13, 34) Pan Jezus przyszedł nie tylko raz w Betlejem, dwa tysiące lat temu - On przychodzi do nas w każdym człowieku. Widząc twarz bliźniego, widzę twarz Pana Jezusa. Czasem to podobieństwo jest zamazane przez grzech i trudno je dostrzec. Jednak traktując tych ludzi z miłością, pomagam, aby ten Boży obraz został w nich odnowiony. o. Placyd

STANISLAUS PASTORAL VISITS The friars of the parish are always ready and happy to visit parishioners while they are in the hospital, residing in a nursing home or rehab center, or confined to their homes. We already have a large list of people we visit on a regular basis. However, sometimes there are people who would like a visit, but nobody contacts the rectory to let us know. Please remember: Hospitals are not allowed to tell us who is there as a patient. If you have a family member or friend who would like to be visited by one of the friars, either in the hospital, nursing home, or their own home, please call the rectory. An Advent Wreath Service every Friday during Advent with all of the school gathered together on the first floor. Singing Christmas Carols during music class and making Christmas crafts and drawings during art class. Getting Christmas cards for all of your classmates and putting them into a special Christmas mailbox that was made by our teacher and then enjoying getting these cards from your classmates just before leaving school for Christmas vacation. Snowball fights in the schoolyard when Sister Principal was not watching. Starting your Christmas vacation knowing that you had about two weeks before going back to school. The Parent Teacher Unit ladies delivering gifts and candy to each class with one of the ladies dressed as Santa Claus for the younger grades. The church decorated so finely for the Christmas celebrations. Trying to behave so that you don t blow your chance to get your Christmas presents. Being in church for the Christmas liturgies. All of these memories and more from all age groups served to form a community of believers here at St. Stanislaus for many generations of Parishioners.
