In this directory, you can find examples of high profile items appearing on the Polish market for the first time, produced by artists of key importance for the world history of photography, including Peter Lindbergh, Richard Avedon, or Henri Cartier-Bresson. Next to the artists mentioned above, we also present the greatest names in Polish photography, represented by such works as the iconic productions by Paweł Pierściński, Zygmunt Rytka, or Chris Niedenthal. The set of works from Wojciech Jędrzejewski s collection which is hereby put on auction presents a rich and diverse cross-section of the techniques and aesthetic patterns of major relevance for the international history of photography for the ever growing market of collector photography. The proposed items have been carefully gathered and selected by Wojciech Jędrzejewski, one of the most important photography experts and collectors in Poland. This choice is an example of conscious and consistent building of a private collection, in which every photograph has its own unique history. Not only the artists names matters but also the carefully documented origin of prints, as a warranty of uniqueness, and the continuous conservator protection, careful storage and artistic framing of the images so that they are durable and a safe investment. A great majority of the photographs have been edited and signed by their respective authors, and the prints are qualified as vintage prints. I truly believe that photographs from Wojciech Jędrzejewski s collection are the perfect investment for their buyers, and perhaps an interesting idea for a Christmas gift in the upcoming season, or an attractive item that will add aesthetic valour to your home or office. You are hereby kindly invited to visit the pre-auction viewing and the auction itself on 4 December 2017. Ewa Szok President of the Management Board Libra Auction House

4 5 Dear Sir, Dear Madam, Artemis Art Gallery, Krakow, 6 December 2002, opening of My Favourite Photographs exhibition. As seen from the left: Marek Wajda, Wojciech Prażmowski, Paweł Pierściński, Wojciech Jędrzejewski, Sławoj Dubiel, Zygmunt Rytka, Marek Szyryk, Krzysztof Gierałtowski, Anita Andrzejewska, Jan Spałwan, Jakub Pajewski. It s been fifteen years since the works from my private collection of photographs were shown at the Artemis Art Gallery in Krakow, entitled My Favourite Photographs. It was the first exhibition of a private collection of fine-art photographs in Poland. It was highly popular with the public and the media. See the event coverage at www.mojefotografie.com. The exhibition presented diverse genres of photography and various authors, both those exclusive for Polish photography, those most famous worldwide, and those who were then taking their first steps on the collector market. Each of my photographs to be auctioned on 4 December is accompanied by a different story of how it came to be included in my collection. Sometimes I was searching for certain photos for years and had to travel abroad, or to Kielce in winter, at other times I had to contact an offshore art gallery via the Internet, which was not so very easy 15 years ago. Searching for photographs and reaching their authors can be the most exciting moments in collecting fine arts, which make it worth the effort, as they involve a great satisfaction. I have been building my collection consistently throughout the past years, adding more and more consecutive works. In the meantime, I was trying to use the knowledge I gathered about collecting photography through publications and speeches I made to promote this extremely thrilling field. I am truly satisfied to notice a major progress that has occurred after all those years on the collector photography market in Poland, and I am well aware I am one of the contributors to this progress. Obviously, I am not claiming that the market is fully mature now, but its advancement is truly pronounced, and the results are encouraging. New photography collectors have appeared, and market s have been set for the works of many Polish artists. Photography auctions have become a regular item in the proposals of auction houses, thus leading to the natural formation of competitive mechanisms. Therefore, consequently pursuing growth of the collector photography market in Poland, I decided to accept the invitation from LIBRA Auction House and to put selected photographs from my first exhibition of 2002 to auction. Fifteen years ago, I wrote in the exhibition directory for My Favourite Photographs that the exhibition would be an encouragement for people to collect photos and at the same time enliven the circles of authors and collectors. I am thus resuming my attempts after all those years, hoping to experience the satisfaction with creating the collector photography market in Poland again. I will be really pleased to find the works from my collections coming to your possession being able to give you a lot of joy and positive aesthetic experience. Even more pleasant would it be for me to learn that these purchases could lay the foundation for your own private photo collection, or add to an existing collection of artwork or photography. The vast majority of the items to be auctions are signed, edited and produced manually by their respective authors. As such, they are identified as vintage print. Photographs in this category are most sought by collectors, museums, and national fine art collections. This is because they meet the durability criteria set for museums, and therefore also for collectors. I bought most of the works to be auctioned on 4 December from their original authors, which is my guarantee of authenticity. Most of them are also exquisitely framed by Renes, a reputable professional artwork framing workshop. They are fitted with acid-free passe-partout and UV filter glass to protect them from sunlight. This type of framing is not only pleasing to the eye but, more importantly, it offers permanent protection of the photographs. You are kindly invited to buy, and to experience a lot of emotion while auctioneering. Wojciech Jędrzejewski Post scriptum: An extraordinarily valuable aspect is the fact that, owing to Libra Auction House, 3% of the auction revenues will be given to charity.

He has taken thousands of exquisite photographs in Poland since the early 1970s when he came here from England to live until the present day. He has authored some photos accompanying the most important events in Poland s contemporary history, led by the photograph offered at this auction: Warsaw, Apocalipsis now 1981. He works with photographic and video techniques. For many years, he has been capturing rocks in the Białka river of the Tatra Mountains, a motif of his series entitled Supplementary Images and Continuity of the Infinite. As the author perceives rocks as a symbol of eternity and infiniteness of nature, he puts them in movement in his installations, thus questioning the stability they are typically associated with. He also made this point in his Dynamic Objects. Although they are not moving in photographs, the artist notes that they are capable of activating our imagination and creating a new kind of intellectual space. Works by Zygmunt Rytka are held in the collections of the National Museum in Wrocław; Studio Art Gallery in Warsaw; Warmia and Masuria Museum in Olsztyn; Museum of Fine Arts in Łódź; Museum of the History of Photography in Krakow; as well as Polish and foreign private collections. He is one of the founders of In Situ Foundation for Contemporary Art.
