Reflections from Fr. Emil. THE SACRIFICE OF CHRIST AND THE SACRIFICE OF THE EUCHARIST The victim is one and the same; the same now offers through the ministry of priests, who then offered himself on the cross; only the manner of offering is different. In this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and is offered in an unbloody manner. The Eucharist is also the sacrifice of the Church. The Church which is the Body of Christ participates in the offering of her Head. With him, she herself is offered whole and entire. She unites herself to his intercession with the Father for all men. In the Eucharist the sacrifice of Christ becomes also the sacrifice of the members of his Body. The lives of faithful, their praise, sufferings, prayer, and work, are united with those of Christ and with his total offering, and so acquire a new value. Christ's sacrifice present on the altar makes it possible for all generations of Christians to be united with his offering. Fr. W tej Boskiej ofierze, dokonującej się we Mszy św. jest obecny i w sposób bezkrwawy ofiarowany ten sam Chrystus, który na ołtarzu krzyża ofiarował samego siebie w sposób krwawy. Eucharystia jest również ofiarą Kościoła. Kościół, który jest Ciałem Chrystusa, uczestniczy w ofierze swojej Głowy. Razem z Chrystusem ofiaruje się cały i łączy się z Jego wstawiennictwem u Ojca za wszystkich ludzi. W Eucharystii ofiara Chrystusa staje się także ofiarą członków Jego Ciała. Życie wiernych, składane przez nich uwielbienie, ich cierpienia, modlitwy i praca łączą się z życiem, uwielbieniem, cierpieniami, modlitwami i pracą Chrystusa i z Jego ostatecznym ofiarowaniem się oraz nabierają w ten sposób nowej wartości. Solo difiere la manera de ofrecer. En este divino sacrificio que se realiza en la misa, este mismo Cristo, que se ofrece a si mismo una vez de manera cruenta sobre el altar de la cruz, es contenido e inmolado de manera no cruenta. La Eucaristia es igualmente el sacrificio de la Iglesia. La Iglesia, que es el Cuerpo de Cristo, participa en la ofrenda de su Cabeza. Con El, ella se ofrece totalmente. Se une a su intercesion ante el Padre por todos los hombres. En la Eucaristia, el sacrificio de Cristo es tambien el sacrificio de los miembros de su Cuerpo. Key Findings: Faith and Practice Survey Thanks to all who participated in the Archdiocese s Faith and Practice Survey in April. The survey included questions that were directed at all teenage and adult Catholics, and others that were specifically directed at teenagers, adults, parents, and catechists. An executive summary of the survey is posted online at www.archchicago.org. The survey provided insight on a wide range of topics. A few highlights include: There is a major opportunity and need to increase the participation of teenagers in parish life. In our survey, Mass attendance as a teenager was the strongest predictor of adult Mass attendance. Significant numbers of teenagers and parents expressed an interest in having more opportunities and activities for Catholic teenagers, and the teen survey provided ideas as to what might make those activities more attractive. There is a need to improve the understanding of the meaning and the value of the sacraments. Catholic parents, even most of those who attend Mass infrequently, still want to pass a Catholic identity to their children, and to make sure that they are baptized and receive First Communion. This represents an opportunity to do more to evangelize these parents and their families. Although respondents scored very well on a quiz of basic Church teachings, many Catholics wish they knew more about their faith. The Archdiocese will use the findings from the survey to work with parishes across the Archdiocese to improve our evangelization and formation efforts. Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park offers two support programs for those grieving the loss of a loved one through death. For Adults: LIVING: WHEN A LOVED ONE HAS DIED Six consecutive Wednesdays, beginning September 29 from7:30 to 9:30 PM. Support Groups formed specific to loss and age of participant.
