WELCOME TO ŁÓDŹ Dear Collegues, The Meetings are organized every year and the guiding principle at all this meeting is to bring together senior and junior scientists working in dynamic areas of biochemistry. The first Biochemical Congress was held in Łódź in 1963, and from that time our town had the honor to host the polish biochemists twice, in 1978 and 1992. Today Łódź is a modern and bustling city with excellent stores, shops, pubs, restaurants, museums and unique, the biggest in Europe forest in the town Łagiewniki. The conference venue is Technical University of Lodz, just in the city centre and very close to the famous Piotrkowska Street. We hope that the upcoming meeting also will be exceptional because of the number of participants that are expected from abroad. We will combine plenary talks, symposia and workshops by experienced researchers with short talks by promising investigators who are developing outstanding work. A lively social programme, which we hope will give rise to a stimulating, informative and sociable event. Above all, we hope that the XLIV meeting will prove an opportunity for participants to meet each other, to build and rebuild friendships, and to contribute to progress in biochemical science. We look forward to welcoming you to Łódź for a most exciting and enjoyable meeting. On behalf of the Organizing Committee Ludmila Żylinska Chairperson of the Organizing Committee
